Yah, scary.

Oh wow that thing is so clumsy it's almost worthless. Sure it could get a toddler or an old person around 70 but not much else.

Yes, because this is what officer Cleatus really needs.

Criminals respond with some bird shot.

Inevitable that it would be developed? Yes. Particularly useful? Nope.

One?  Perhaps not.

Half a dozen?  Maybe...

/assuming some significant, but not unreasonable improvements
//for better or worse (probably worse), can envision larger numbers of them being used to tase/pepper spray/ID unruly crowds

GET IN THE PADDY WAGON, CRIMINAL. YOU HAVE 10 SECONDS TO COMPLY!

Swarms of them launched from the top of a specialized vehicle. One screaming mob. Cops go in and drag thrashing, screaming people out with hooks.

I don't like that idea.

That guy sucks at piloting it

Yep, which is exactly how our thugs-in-uniform brave public servants who live to beat us down and extort us for their masters serve and protect us will use them. Why risk their doughnut-shop-trained well-trained and highly-conditioned bodies  struggling with unruly terrorists-not-yet-convicted citizens when they can subdue them by remote control, and send the rookies in to cuff them and load them into the prison buses.

TofuTheAlmighty: Hope that guy got some big-time hazard pay.

Pay?  He's an intern.  Getting zapped WAS the pay.  It was "valuable workplace experience."

Makes me wonder when I read/see/play about fictional companies like Umbrella, Wayland/Yutani, OCP, how awful the lives of those interns must be.

Umbrella: Hey, you, come here and let us inject this thing to you
Wayland/Yutani: Wanna go to space!?
OCP: Could you file these papers? We accidentally killed one of our board members with a robot

"...invited me to their Austin offices today during South By Southwest to check out a live demonstration of a stun gun-loaded drone. Obviously, I came."

Author is into some weird S&M if that's what does it for him.

Chaotic Moon Studios, a startup making, uh, about anything you can think of, invited me to their Austin offices today during South By Southwest to check out a live demonstration of a stun gun-loaded drone. Obviously, I came.

That's nice, but did you go to the demonstration?

So by what justification could someone be tased if no on else is around that the person is putting in danger?

So basically a heavier, clunkier version of this:

/Splinter Cell: Blacklist was awesome.
