(Scientific American)   Behold rare footage of the mimic octopus, with an amazing variety of disguises. Right around the 1:25 min. mark in the video, it turns into a Juggalo   (blogs.scientificamerican.com ) divider line

I just watched five minutes of an octopus swimming around.

2014-03-09 05:01:26 AM
and another subby with zero reading comprehension.

that footage isn't rare, and it's definitely not new (the YouTube link itself is from 2010).

and Fark has greenlit many videos of the mimic octopus.

the point of that article is that the Mimic Octopus was found in waters further north than usual.

Hmmm. I'll bet subby was trying to mimic someone who actually RTFA.

Farking octopi, how do they work?

Some questions are better left unasked on the internet.

Wolf892: Was I the only one that had no audio in that video? I just saw a silent film of an octopus swimming around but not doing anything that looked special...

Ya. Normally I love octopus videos. They're awesome, amazing, creatures.

This was just one getting poked with a stick by some farking assholes, and fleeing in terror constantly. It didn't DO anything, and it certainly didn't mimic anything other than 'fark, run, ruuuuun'.

Let me think for a second...

/Can't believe people take ICP seriously. I always thought they were a couple of white boys making fun of rap and hip-hop and other random crap. The fact there's an entire subculture based on taking their music seriously is just weird.
//Great Milenko is a fun album, I don't care
///Maryanne, what the hell is wrong with this music box? Don't mind that old thing honey, it does that all the time.

Back on topic, octopusses have to be the most awesome thing you can have in your home aquarium. Smart as shiat and most of their body is arms with little mini-brains in them! So cool. The octopus in the linked video has the "Come at me, bro!" thing down pretty good.

What an utter shock, a creature that specializes in hiding so much that it is named after that ability. One that lacked a "formal description until 2005". In an area not well explored, is found slightly outside of its known range. MUST BE GLOBAL WARMINGZ!!!

I still prefer Cuttlefish, way cooler, and they're delicious.

What am I missing? Other than at about the 5 second mark, I didn't see it change at all.

Are you high? The only person in the thread to mention global warming is you. It wasn't even in the article. You know, when you start seeing things that aren't there, it's time to step away from the internet.

I have a mimic octopus.

He does a John Madden way better than Frank Caliendo.

Better video

This thing was imitating a flounder and lionfish in subby's video, though with no sound and crappy footage it was hard to tell. It can do many more things than that, even a sea snake, and many of its guises are of poisonous creatures.

Here's a link to a not so rare footage of the mimic octopus doing what the article says it can do.

Imagine a brony, but instead of being an MLP fan, he's an Insane Clown Posse fan. A juggalo is kind of like that.

I usually see him in the politics tab, where it's impossible to tell. Better to err on the side of tilting at windmills I suppose. And you're newer than I am, so nyah.

Ah, science. Finding new ways to stress out octopi for no reason at all.

/That was the most boring octopus video I've ever watched, shame on you, submitter.
