The same UK fans who were herping and derping about how Tubby Smith never got in good recruits will now herp and derp about how Calipari just brings in me-first players who are just trying to get through the year of college they must play before they go to the NBA.

Florida is really, really good. UK has amazing talent and very little basketball IQ. Still, they came out in the second half down 21 and gave themselves a chance to win, cutting the lead all the way to 6. That doesn't happen if you suck. If these kids stick around another year, they could be scary good.

As someone who is subjected to the constant ravings of UK fans, I'm getting a kick.
They've been surpringly quiet this year. I for one welcome the silence.
/tired of the entire SEC rant

Glad that Louisville won, though.

Watching the Arizona and Oregon game - - wow, what a game this is.  Much more exciting.

AdamK: worst team ever amirite state of Kentucky?

That would be the football team.

But I'll take a team that won a title two years ago that sucks now over 2 teams who have never made the Final Four.

Yeah yeah, I know it doesn't represent most UK fans, but still.  Hope they don't see Robert Morris in the first round of the tourney.

Oh, and Kentucky has underperformed, and that's putting it mildly, for the second straight year (preseason #1 this year, preseason #2 last year, that's terrible times two), but there's no shame in losing to freakin' Florida.  They're awesome.  The Gators are the most complete team out there.  It's not like losing to South Carolina like last week.  Now that's a bad loss.

I agree they have very poor basketball IQ.  I'm not convinced, however, that they'll improve over the summer.  Their guys haven't shown much improvement since November so I don't know how much difference a few summer months will make.  Coming back for his sophomore season certainly didn't help Poythress very much.

Off-season improvement is probably a moot issue, though, because I suspect at least 3 of their players will enter the draft.  Maybe 4.  And so next November, UK will start trying to teach the basics to a new group of AAU kids who never had to learn fundamentals because they were always bigger or stronger their opponents.

I think Tennessee is going to make a jump next season.  Their defense is pretty good.

The way I see it, there are two big problems with Kentucky (not a fan, just a hoops junkie, check the Wichita St. thread for proof).

First, the Harrison twins.  Before the season started I said that guard play, specifically point guard play, would be the death of this team.  They've done nothing to dispel that notion.  When the chips are down, one or both of them can be counted on to drive into a double team and chuck up a terrible shot.  And when they shoot from outside, they brick way too many... and it often doesn't stop them from chucking it up anyway.  More so than anyone on the team, these are the two guys that dominated high school and AAU without actually doing anything of substance.  When your best "pass first" guy is Randle, that's trouble.

Second, Calipari is half of a coach.  He gets the top guys on campus, sure, and that's not to be taken lightly as that's a big part of being a high level NCAA coach.  Once there, though, there's practically no development at all.  The way that he whines about guys not getting it is annoying as fark because, Cal, that's ON YOU not them.  There's simply no excuse for UK to go from preseason #2 to NIT first round losers and then preseason #1 to unranked in the final week in back to back seasons (following a TITLE season no less).  It's apparently a crap shoot how they'll play each season, but if Calipari was worth a damn in terms of actual, y'know, coaching, that wouldn't be the case.  Not saying they'd rattle off title after title, but like I said, this team is going to be unranked this coming week?  Are you kidding me?

I say they lose SIX guys this spring.  Randle, Cauley-Stein, Young, Poythress, and the Harrisons.  In the case of the last two (or three), you should be hoping so.  Of those six, if I'm an NBA GM, give me Cauley-Stein.  I think he'll have a better NBA career than any of them, Randle included.

It was today, that's for goddamn sure.  I think it was the death knell for your Mizzou team's NCAA chances today. unless they make it to the conference finals.

Oh, I've known it was coming for a while.  Mizzou is a collection of good to great players who are a really dumb team.
