Shoulda done it with a white baloon...and had it bounce behind someone...on a beach

2014-03-08 05:00:12 PM
So, by "following you around" you mean "goes wherever the cameraman pushes it because it has no locomotion of its own"?

2014-03-08 05:03:55 PM
Pretty amazing how that powerless balloon followed people into the elevator that happened to have at least three cameras positioned inside it, and two cameras positioned outside it.

I also suspend my hyperskeptical disbelief to wonder not at all that no one looked at it or touched it or pushed it.

It gained some authenticity with the Asians looking away and not questioning it.

Great, between your comment and THGL and GypsyJoker's posts, I'm beginning to feel really old since I saw all three of those movies when they were first in theaters.

The neutrally-bouyant balloon *could* follow people into an elevator, if they move close past it, fast enough to create an air current behind them,  and it draws the balloon after them in their turbulent wake.

"...it was equipped with a battery-powered Arduino - an Adafruit Wave Shield the designers hacked to record and playback audio on-the-fly, along with a small speaker. These were inserted into a latex balloon after it was shaped into a cone..."

That there is some fine writin'.

I think I first saw Dark Star at the Nuart. But I saw the others, first run. I raise my walker in salute and shake my palsied fist at old age.

Yeah, that was really disappointing, even with the artsy-fartsy black and white video.

The concept still has potential though.

Hmm, a little EVD selenium on the balloon, a few conductive traces, we could raise irregular static electric fields on the balloon, possibly generating a micro newton of thrust.

The worst thing about it is that if you get caught in that anti-magic cone it projects out, you are farked.

/learned as a teenager that if you pissed off the DM, a room with one kobold in it might suddenly become a beholder's den

Our DM was always big on having the "kobold" be a magically disguised pit fiend or illithid, but much the same lesson.

/encounters out of your PCs league always suck, no matter the flavor.

In the module "Temple of Elemental Evil" (or is it "Return to. . ."? no biggie), there is a shaft in a wall that looks like it could be a ventilation shaft that could be used as a short cut.

About 20 down, dab smack in the center of the shaft, is a sphere of annihilation.

"My thief jumps down the shaft.  Whee!"
