Al-Jazeerah reporters are not among the ones I would call "propagandists and spin doctors" subby. They do good work in bad places.

-eleventy for unnecessarily inflammatory and trolltastic headline.

2014-03-08 06:04:40 PM
So, who, exactly, does subby want to get his or her information from? The Egyptian government? (Which is currently the Egyptian army.)

Journalists are out there trying to find out what's going on for you. That is so that you can have a chance at knowing what's going on the world. Yeah, not every journalist is exactly your proxy, but do you want the Egyptian army deciding which proxies are legit?

If the world has no use for Al Jazeera reporters, there won't be any Al Jazeera reporters any more. This is not a decision that the Egyptian army has any moral standing to make.

probably shouldn't get your funding from the same government that supports the ousted regime if you want to report there....

If these "journalists" were assisting the Muslim Brotherhood in contravention of Egyptian law, they deserve to be punished. There's no journalistic immunity to the law.

Bad troll, Subby.

Seriously though, remarkably, there are many nations around the world that not only do not recognize and generally allow free speech, there are even more severe ones who will actively harm you for attempting it.

I was hoping tthat us news was going to have to label who is a journalist giving facts and who is an entertainer giving their opinion.

Yes, the "journalists" at ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN/MSNBC (shall I go on?) have EXTENSIVELY covered the crimes of the Oobama administration.  If you're a wiberal, at least be honest with yourself and what YOU accused Republican administrations of. R-S-P-E-C-T.  Tell me again how bright he is and how dumb Quayle was? I thought so.

The sad thing is that while RT is understandably partisan (after all, they're funded by the Russian government), all the major U.S. networks, plus CNN, plus the New York Times, etc., are engaging in pro-administration propaganda just because they like to. And they lie about it too, pretending to be "neutral."

Fox News has no journalists so that's an easy question. About the article...journalism shouldn't include opinion: it should include information from both parties where possible.

It isn't: "The Egyptian government is oppressing the Muslim Brotherhood." It's "According to sources within the Muslim Brotherhood, oppression by the Egyptian government has hit a breaking point for their members, causing them to resort to violence to achieve their goals of equity. The Egyptian Government counters by saying the Brotherhood is not coming to the table to discuss matters, hence the military crackdown."

True. But to be fair, they are a government-run organization and it so happens the Qatari government supports the Muslim Brotherhood. But Al Jazeera has always been a thorn in the sides of governments throughout the Middle East so this isn't new to them.

That being said, I don't think the AJ journalists did anything but do their jobs but are in trouble for the channel they work for.

Good grief. My siblings and I agree about things like food. Politics aren't discussed at family gatherings because we have wildly opposing views. Even my wife and I have very different takes on stuff. Please, seriously, come up with something better than this. Find me something that I can actually get worked up about - how about a relative of someone in a policy-setting department who stands to reap huge financial rewards or something?

I'll give you a free starter: Eric Holder (you've heard of him, he was the guy accused of "blocking the door to schools for minorities"), his sister-in-law was actually the girl who was blocked from a school by a racist governor. So clearly, that means... well, actually it means Bobby Jindal takes his audience for a bunch of idiots, but you get the idea, right?

Is Ali G and the crew from The Onion ok? They're the two news sources I trust (outside of here), and everything I know about world affairs I learned from them!

(on a serious note though, it does suck horribly for those journalists and all the ones who've been persecuted, but hey, you know the risks when you try to unveil the truth in places where the powers that be want anything but the truth put out there. Sad but true, and obvious)

2014-03-08 10:41:27 PM
The thing is, "journalism" has become Propaganda and Spin Doctoring.  Write a news story about something you care around, and you will have filled it with your own personal bias.  Then a editor will go over it and see if it fits withing the bias of the news organization that will publish it, and if not will reject it or rework it until it does.  That Bias of the news organization is based on what will sell: that is determined by those that pay for the advertizing in the production, NOT the consumers of the finished product.

You are told what "they" want you to know, not what you need to know.  Yet you can find out what you need to know just by doing your own research.  That takes effort on your part, and those that are in power know that most of the people they rule don't want to spend that effort, and will just consume whatever is placed before them.

This is Business As Usual.

I addressed everything that matters. I'm not concerned if a fool thinks that a sibling's or spouse's job doesn't matter when discussing bias. Part of the problem is we've been listening to fools too often and that's how we ended up with Obama in the White House.

I'm not going to debate fools any more. I'll simply correct their stupidity and move along.

Were you expecting something different?  It is a game and it is rigged in the favor of those that invented it.  We evolved past of the point of just adapting to our environment to changing the environment to suit us, and the environment we live in is economical and social/political.  When the saber-tooth lions come back from extinction armed with light sabers and bee guns will things start changing.

It isn't a question of how popular MSNBC versus Fox is; it's a question of which one distorts and misrepresents facts more.  That you either fail to understand this (or are pretending to) rather underscores the point.
