Watching the Lakers fall apart has been amusing.  They should have turned the team over to Phil and Jeanie.

Were it not for The Knicks beating them to the punch, it'd be time for the Lakers to leak to the press they have been having talks with Phil Jackson.

They lost to the Clippers by 48 points? Maybe the Laker should change their name to the Los Angeles Generals.

Except that Mitch Kupchak can't stand Phil Jackson for whatever reason (probably because Phil doesn't want to fellate Kobe 24/7/365).

Yeah well, ask Lakers fans and see if it's even close on whether they want Mitch Kupchak or Phil Jackson.

Oh, I'm pretty sure they'd throw a party if Kupchak got fired and Phil took over :).

I think they would settle for Kupchak being tossed.

The Lakers should give a raise as he got them the top draft pick (not that the NBA Lottery is fixed or anything like that)

Why?  He's only doing marginally better in Denver.

Don't worry Laker fans, Kobe is totally not a convicted rapist.

Well, the Knicks sucking isn't exactly different from most of the last decade-plus.

Number of NBA titles:

Celtics: 17
Lakers (including the Minneapolis years): 16
Lakers (not including the Minneapolis years): 11
Knicks: 2

One of those teams doesn't belong with the other two. Why not pick Michael Jordan and his supporting cast instead (6 titles)?

As for the Lakers, they need to blow up the team and start from scratch, making a good number 1 pick in the draft this year would help.

They wont blow it up, because apparently that would be tanking and the Lakers dont tank. The head palm here is that the team will probably play better if they actually do blow it up and replace it with some fresh blood and picks.

George Karl would be a great pickup after the season.

Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak didn't want to hire Phil Jackson because they didn't want him to get credit for the Lakers winning.  They wanted to put their own stamp on it, and thought they had enough in Nash and Howard.

Only horrible part of that decision was bringing in the disastrous D'Antoni, who broke Kobe and didn't know how to use bigs.  Or coach defense.  Or coach anything but his stale old system that everyone can predict.

So, mission accomplished. They put their stamp on it -- and that stamp is "failure."

How he still has a job is amazing.
