Well it's apparent you are not aware of just how farked up and rock-stupid you are, or you wouldn't be electing hideous dipsh*ts like THIS to represent YOU and inflict your ignorance and assholery on a global scale:

jacknifetrucker: Nadie_AZ: The South isn't about Conservatism. It is about maintaining an autocratic hold over the poor and middle classes. Why is racism so strong there? The wealthy convinced the poor whites that while they were poor, at least they weren't black. And a black person is less than a white person -even if that black person were rich an the white person were poor.

If the poor and middle classes ever figure this out, they may have their own little civil war down the line.

That is fark'n stupid. So what you are saying is ALL minorities no matter color or creed are ubber wealthy up north?. Tool.

Actually, if you look at demographic maps, the north seems to do a much better job than the south when it comes to segregation, granted this is mostly because of whites fleeing urban centers rather than forcing anyone into them...

DubyaHater: Semantic Warrior: , I only moved here because I had to see about a girl.

I remember I picked my college because of that. Luckily everything turned out alright.

Grats on that for you.  So far so good here, the funny thing is that neither of us want to remain here (too cold, too white, and neither of us understand people that spare no expense on their churches (apparently we've the most churches per capita here) yet can't maintain roads or any other infrastructure for that matter... we want to go somewhere warm, neither of us is big on California nor anywhere in the south, mostly for the same reasons: warm, but not terribly thrilled by political and social cultures.

Obviously the solution is Hawaii.

I once had a colleague from Georgia who basically tried to explain to us Canadians in a conference call that the Democrats are traitors who must be executed. I'm not saying this is representative of all people from the US south east but it was a bit of a head scratcher that anyone in an industrialized democracy would be advocating not only one-party states, but political murder. He vanished and his boss communicated with us the following week that he was no longer available due to 'health reasons.'

I would have liked to see how a 'religious activity' map might overlay on that. Does a state full of churchgoers, relative to the average state, tend to be southern? You can't fix things if you won't admit there's a problem, and people with strong religious convictions may be open to "...because God said" types of arguments against change.

2014-03-08 01:42:55 PM
Why would they want anyone to be happy and healthy?  A happy person is less likely to go to church for social support.  A happy person is less likely to have unprotected sex as a teenager.  A happy person is likely to have fewer children.  Combine that with shaming and banning everything that could help someone out of their shiat hole life and you create an environment that pushes the hordes into church pews.

True. ( although the climate & religiosity across most of the South is enough to keep me from moving there...)

Lived there for a short time, the maps do not lie.   But cheer up, we're all helping them get better - since the state programs get federal matching dollars, we all get the chance to pay!

Best memory:  seeing the civil war called "the war of northern aggression" on the official historical marker plaque at a tunnel they couldn't finish.

Soonerpsycho: Bslim: That, and it's full of southerners

And poor black Democrats

Ah yes, the poisonous attitude that if you exclude certain classes of people because they bring down the average then the USA, the South, or whatever is the best in the world. E,g, the US has the best health care if you are not too dumb to make enough money to afford it.

This attitude tends to trickle up (particularly in the South) where you have poor uneducated whites who are proud of their achievement of not being black. At least they have people to look down upon. They really lose because if there are social forces that cause a large number of poor blacks then those also cause white poverty.

Let the South secede. It would be fascinating. Let them have their free market, regulation-less, mandatory Jesus utopia and see what happens over the next 50 years.

This is how Southerners react to the fact that they are behind modern civilization in most measurable ways. It's like North Koreans claiming they don't want that fancy electricity anyway.

Let's assume that what you say is true, mr troll and or dumbass. They're still Southerners. They live in the South and are a product of Southern society and environment. Unless you meant to damn those minorities for being a wart on the South. Which is racist. So either that comment was racism, and thus reinforces the stereotypes about the South, or it was to point out how badly the South treats minorities and limits the ability to get out of poverty, and thus reinforces the stereotypes about the South.

I've spent most of my life living in the South (although the past couple of decades in Central Florida don't count as any Southerner will tell you) but I grew up in the Redneck Riveria and spent half a decade in Birmingham.

There are a lot of great things about the South. Intellectual reckoning is not one of them.

You want to see the real tragedy of the south?  We need a map of average time to get served fast food.

On my last visit down that way, I just gave up and switched to eating nothing but things I could buy at the grocery store and eat right out of the package.

/ Literally had to wait 45 minutes to get a farkin' footlong from Subway, with only two people in line ahead of me.
// I would have given up and left in a huff, if I didn't find it so fascinating that someone could work that slowly yet somehow still look busy.

Ben Carson just gave a speech in which he called for voting out everyone who voted for the debt ceiling increase.

A sick part of me would like to see him in office, vetoing a debt ceiling increase. It would be horrible, but by god it would be fascinating. And a great cautionary tale.

Not so much. There have been great southern authors, such as Faulkner. Southern folks helped create the United States constitution. There are plenty of bright folks in the south right now, but it seems to me that their voices get overwhelmed by the morons who want a fundamental Christian theocracy to govern the US.

Sammichless: Farty McPooPants: Sammichless: The problem is they don't have enough good paying jobs there. All of these maps can basically be explained by that one statement.

The South is Conservative. They believe that Liberal tax rates, unions, business regulations, etc. are hostile to business..... The obvious answer is that they need to be more friendly to attract jobs.

Nevermind that the good paying jobs have been concentrated in the most Liberal states forever.

enry: Obviously these states aren't conservative enough.

Yup.

Were they liberal when the industries that pay these jobs moved there because of geography?  Nope.  The jobs stay there because of geography, not because they are liberal.  You've got your cart in front of the horse.

The industries move here constantly. We provide what businesses need to operate. We have more modern port terminals, more miles of train track, more lanes on our highways, larger investments in higher education. You know, tax and spend stuff.

Conservatives wish to provide companies with what they want..... but, they don't collect enough revenue to first provide companies with what they need first.

If a lot more businesses could set up proper supply chains in the south, they would move there.

Michelin, BMW, Nissan, Toyota, Cisco, Honda, GM, Caterpillar, Volkswagen, etc., etc. think differently about your opinion.

I'm not so sure what the northeast is bragging about, since their workplace landscape is mainly service industry, and what's left of steel industry, auto assembly and that's about it.  Upstate NY has 53 counties, 43 of which have negative growth in the last 20 years, even with all of that Great Lakes access and available property.  Mario Cuomo told several automakers (Nissan, Saturn, Volkswagen) in the 1980's and early 1990's to go fark themselves when they were looking to build new plants there.  The north  wants poor people there (NY has some of the most liberal welfare programs available, throwing money at the poor left and right).  Detroit/MI?  You have Ann Arbor and Traverse City, the rest of the state is a wasteland.  Port access doesn't mean dick apparently in the Great Lakes states.  Must be something else keeping growth down since, oh, the 1970's there.

Settle an area where a very few families own 99 percent of the land and wealth, and the rest of the people are ignorant farmers and/or slaves. Wait 200 years and have a devastating war. Wait another 70 years before doing anything to improve the infrastructure, endemic poverty and widespread illiteracy. Wait another 30 years to eliminate discriminatory laws that institutionalize poverty among one-third of the population. Wait another 45 years, and what the hell? This part of the country still lags behind the rest of the country on measures of education, health and income disparity. Wonder how that could have happened?

I moved from the South in 1991 because things needed um, improvement.  However, one thing I discovered is that north of the Mason/Dixon line it's not all wine and roses.  For example here in Wisconsin our largest metropolitan area (Milwaukee) has such terrible race relations and segregation that it's probably the closest thing to South Africa in he Western world.  And our yokels and frightened suburbanites gave us Scott Walker on Election Day.  So yeah, the South's full of derp.  But we've got plenty up here as well.
