When are people going to learn that you never, ever mess with the judge? Even a judge with a reputation as a hardass on crime won't tolerate someone refusing to answer a question.

Too bad there aren't more judges like this...we need guys like that in the US.

That's nothing.  In D.C. we have traffic enforcement who don't know if stop signs say 'stop'.

ABC7's Kris Van Cleave then asked Babers, "Do all stop signs say stop?"

"I don't know; I haven't looked at all stop signs," Babers responded.

Judge Durcan added it is "one issue after another". "The sooner Insp McDonald sits down, goes back to school and learns a little bit more about how cases are prepared for court, the better".

Judge Durcan said: "This team was specially set up and today you have two prosecutors who didn't turn up and the third who refused to answer a question. It is absolutely appalling."

This is actually a true and accurate answer. A more informative answer may have been "All that I've seen say 'Stop'"

Bravo for the judge. And subby please re-read the article. That wasn't what the judge said at all.

FTFY. You have a long, arduous road to walk before you'll ever convince us that traffic enforcement isn't a fundraiser under the guise of public safety. Too much documented corruption, traffic trap towns, and personal experience has gone over the dam for us to believe otherwise.

You do have a tough job at times. Shaking down motorists isn't one of those times.

Of course, since this is about red light cameras it doesn't even involve the fuzz at all, so in truth I have no idea what your biatch is.

In Oregon it's legal to turn left from a two way street onto a one way street with a red light.  It throws off a lot of people.

FTFA:
"He was left irate after a GoSafe official refused to tell him the extent a driver has to exceed speed limits before they will begin a prosecution - in this instance the motorist was allegedly 9km over the limit.
Go Safe official Christopher Quinn told the court that Mr Derwin was driving at 89km per hour in a 80km zone when detected at Drumana, Crusheen on August 25 last....

Judge Durcan said: "Tell me, Mr Quinn, at what level of excess of the speed limit do you commence prosecution?"

In response, Mr Quinn said: "I am not supposed to disclose that, your honour."

In reply, Judge Durcan said: "Sorry, you are in court and you are on oath and if that is your attitude I am striking out the prosecution."

1. Not police, contractor working for the police
2. They had evidence
3. They don't want to announce that they don't prosecute until X km over the limit, which would effectively raise the limit to that figure (and cost them revenue probably)

FTA: Judge Durcan said: "Tell me, Mr Quinn, at what level of excess of the speed limit do you commence prosecution?"

In response, Mr Quinn said: "I am not supposed to disclose that, your honor."

The Judge then asked how many hours or days Mr Quinn would like to spend in jail, until he could tell the Judge at what point over the speed limit is a ticket issued.....

/Obstruction of justice, by running a racket, is a crime boys and girls.
//Speeders don't kill. Bad drivers do. Especially the ones who are doing the speed limit and nail the brakes or swerve as they see the speed-trap.

Then they just didn't want to win the case.  When the judge asks you a question, you give him the answer.  If he wants to know the circumference of your dog's cock, you tell him.  Telling a judge to fark off, no matter how politely you may phrase that, is basically demanding that the judge tell you to fark off - and he holds all the power.

For any traffic control devices, there is a federal standard...

Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)

It theoretically makes it so all signs nationwide are recognizable as to what they do.

Oh, and according to the MUTCD, if the stop sign doesn't say STOP, it's not a legal stop sign.
