Headline made me chuckle, subs.  Not HOTY good, but still good.

The one thing libraries need to due is get really tough on late books and make higher late fines to ensure people have even less interest in actually checking out physical books.

I just realized: millennials won't get the headline.

Because that's the fastest a Kansan has ever read a book.

Thank you for making me RGIS that pic, the rest of the photos in that set were priceless as well. Got a Seth Rogen laugh out of me once or twice.

You took this book out in 1971. Yeah, '71. That was my first year on the job; bad year for libraries; bad year for America, hippies burning library cards, Abby Hoffman telling everybody to steal books. I don't judge a man by the length of his hair or the kind of music he listens to. Rock was never my bag. But you put on a pair of shoes when you walk into the New York Public Library, fella!

Let me tell you something funny-boy. You know that little stamp, the one that says 'New York Public Library'? Well that may not mean anything to you, but that means a lot to me. One whole hell of a lot!

Sure, go ahead, laugh if you want to. I've seen your type before; flashy, making the scene, flaunting convention. Yeah, I know what you're thinking. Why's this guy making such a big stink about old library books? Well, let me give you a hint, junior. Maybe we can live without libraries, people like you and me; maybe.

Sure, we're too old to change the world, but what about that kid sitting down opening a book right now, in a branch at the local library and finding drawings of pee-pees and wee-wees on the Cat in the Hat and the Five Chinese Brothers? Doesn't HE deserve better?

Look. If you think this is about overdue fines and missing books, you'd better think again. This is about that kid's right to read a book without getting his mind warped! Or ... maybe that turns you on; maybe that's how you get your kicks; you and your good-time buddies.

Well I got a flash for yah joy-boy; party-time-is-over!

Ehh, is it a hardback? Cookbooks tend to be something libraries amass and never withdraw.

My library had a cover price or $25 cap for a while, but had a problem regarding some of the VHS tapes with public performance rights. They were in the $500 range, and policy still capped the fine for losing them at $25.

Well, the other thing is... If you hold on to that cookbook for twenty years, it just leaves a bible and a Cracked magazine for the rest of the Kansans to checkout and enjoy.

And, to be honest, you can only look at the pictures in a Cracked magazine 40 or 50 times before it just stops being entertaining.

Damn you. I had to read the whole thing. I remember Seinfeld was smirking the entire time. I wonder how many takes it took before they relized he couldn't not laugh.

I borrowed a book from the Seattle Public Library in 1965 and didn't return it until 2005.   I didn't get a thank you, just a note advising me  they waived the late fee.

I took out a book to do a book report from an elementary school in CT back in 1985.  Moved away three weeks later and the book went with me.

I think about mailing it back to them every now and then...I probably should since they were thinking of closing the school down for the past few years.
