As cool as this is, you still have to be in Baltimore, so it's a wash.

/If he doesn't bring in beaucoup grant money, he's out in a year.

Is it wrong that I at first thought this was his obituary & he donated his body to... science.

Thomas Morgan Dolby Robertson.

I knew this was happening a month ago and told him he knows where to look if they require a Dean of Accordions.

Poor guy.  You can't teach kids these days.  They're all hyperactive.

I hope he doesn't start sleeping with his students. People like him are quite often brilliant because they have no distractive relationships or activities.

Does JHU have some satellite campus in Tampa?

I used to perform maintenance at a research facility in Rockville, MD but that is a LOT closer to Baltimore than Tampa/St. Pete.

Is "its new home in Station North..." in Baltimore or Tampa?

This is a really shiatty article.

At least the article they link to seems to indicate that it's still B-more.

I wonder if it'll drive him half insane to teach at a school with no underground train?

"Electronica legend"?  Come on, now.  He had a big hit at the dawn of MTV.  You may as well call M (Robin Scott) legendary - or better yet, seminal.....

As they stormed the gates of satellite TV
Too bad I don't get News At Ten
'Cause the CNN would tell a different story

You know who is beautiful?  Kathleen Beller, Dolby's wife.  A GIS could keep you in your bunk for a while.

Apparently, she's still got it. Dolby's hairline? Not so much.

Dead for Tax Reasons: is the course on how to create ringtones?

Meth Damon approves.

I love Dolby's stuff... Toadlickers... the Gate To The Mind's Eye soundtrack... all great stuff.

The Flat Earth might be his best album.

That's awesome. His new music is pretty good, and I hope he doesn't take as long to come out with a new album.

I've always enjoyed an eclectic mix of music.... whether it's Dolby, Lemongrass, Tony Carey, Bonobo, Beat Farmers, or Shadowy Men.... it's great that Dolby has always done the stuff he's wanted to do, rather than settle for heading down the boring mainstream path.

Yeah that's one of the things I've always admired about him too. I have an obvious attachment to his last album because of my involvement with it but I think that Astronauts and Heretics is still my favourite. "I Love You, Goodbye" is one of my favourite songs ever written.

GentlemanJ: First, he must reveal the name of the woman who played Miss Sakamoto.

I'm pretty sure her name is Ms. Sakamoto, as in Ryuichi Sakamoto's wife at the time, Akiko Yano. Sakamoto collaborated on "The Golden Age of Wireless" and Yano sang background vocals. That album had some pretty solid supporting characters including Andy Partridge from XTC, Mutt Lange, Lene Lovich & Les Chappell, as well as Mute Records founder John Marsh. Must have been a blast to engineer that album.

For those of you that can't get past the MTV days of Dolby, you can also thank him for advancing mobile phone ringtone technology, especially with Nokia.

Yeah, a bit of a Dolby fan. I think "Screen Kiss" from The Flat Earth is a masterpiece.

Makes me wish I still lived in B'more.

Akiko Yano was the inspiration for the line, but the actress in the video was just a Faces Catalogue extra hired for the shoot. She came from obscurity and went back to it as near as anyone can tell.
