(Talking Points Memo)   Yesterday Jindal accused AG Holder of "standing in the schoolhouse door" like the governors of the Jim Crow era because he opposed vouchers. As it happens, Holder's sister-in-law was one of the Schoolkids turned away by Gov. Wallace   (talkingpointsmemo.com) divider line 132

They're losing public support for pushing school curriculum to hard-right religious texts. So instead they want to kill it and allow Private Schools which can teach whatever.

These guys just keep on ignoring the wealth gap and push for more separation of social classes.  It's going to roll them all up soon, probably just after the 2020 election.

I don't know why you're mocking him. I have it on good authority that the GOP is no longer the party of stupid.

How would anyone know that Wallace was a democrat, that information is not important enough to get into the article. Gov's Wallace, Maddox and Johnson Jr. in the deep south at that time were all Democrats but no one mentions it.

Liberal logic.

Protect a failing education system that is a global joke in first world nations from any constructive change .

Move the healthcare system that people travel thousands of miles to get treatment under, to the same government employes grope their balls while waiting for an airplane.

Because pointing our party affiliations from that long ago is effectively meaningless in comparison to modern parties? There is no value from having that information?

Why is it that allowing poor blacks to go to the rich white schools always "throwing out the public school system".  It is simply giving the disadvantaged a chance to have a good education.  The public will STILL BE EDUCATED, it just wont be by government paid teachers.

Watch the documentary "Waiting For Superman"

Note:  only rich white liberals are against school vouchers - the black community is all for it; but the black political leaders see education of the masses of blacks a threat to the voting base; so they side with the teachers unions to stop vouchers.

Nobody mentions it because they were Conservative Southern Democrats.  Democrat did not equal Liberal in that time span.  Geez.  Are ALL conservatives scared of truth and knowledge?

2014-03-07 12:34:28 PM
I'm not sure Jindal thought that all the way through, using that reference in that situation.
Would I be wrong in thinking that there are folks in the south who want to send their kids to private schools, not just for the religion, but because the public schools are integrated? Any Farkers know anything about that?

Awkward coincindence.

Remember, this is not about the kids. It is about control.  Will it be the coporate masters with direct control, or will they have to go through the government intermediary?

Diversity is important, until it comes to diversity of thought, which progressives can't stand. Government-run public education is anti-diversity of thought. Why would they want vouchers where they would no longer have control of young minds?

If you ever thought that government-run public education was about serving the population with free education because they weren't already obtaining education, that was never the stated purpose by any of the advocates for government education in the 19th century. It just means you don't know your history, which is no surprise if your education came largely from government-run institutions.

Maybe because In 1964 at the Democratic National Convention.  The Party had a "come to Jesus" moment when LBJ (whose hand was slightly forced by MLK and his alternative Mississippi delegation) basically told democrats they could support civil rights of get the fark out of his party, even though he privately believed the move was going to cost him the election, he stood on principal.

And the party DID split-until the Republicans took a look at what had happened, and realized that if the wooed all those disaffected southern racists rather than condemning them, they could win a lot of elections

Gotta love the Republicans continuing to spew this nonsense about how vouchers are gonna help low income kids, when in reality all this is, is a way for the wealthy to stop paying public school taxes.  The wealthy will be able to use their vouchers to send their kids, and their tax dollars to exclusive private schools.  That's all this is about.

What people thought the purpose of public education was in the 19th century is really quite irrelevant in the 21st century.  The fact is, you can't have a functional democracy -- rule by the people -- if the people are all idiots.  That's true in any century.  Providing some training in rational inquiry & critical thinking skills is necessary if you're going to trust people to vote.
