From the stations webpage:

We play a song every Friday morning just before 9am to end the Morning Show week. You know the weekend is here when you hear it.

"Well, for us anyway. The rest of you have like 7 hours left in your day, if you're lucky."

Loudon rules.  Love his appearances on M*A*S*H.

"That's my daughter in the water...I lost every time I fought 'er"

Dust.  Lots of dust in here every time I hear that song.

Then I listen to Our Love is on the Rocks and I laugh like a madman.

My first thought.

I'd be surprised if there weren't a radio station out there doing this.

Without looking guessing "Working for the Weekend."

That's weird. I thought that all radio stations east of the Mississippi river started with a W and all radio stations west of the Mississippi started with a K.

Guess I was wrong about that.

Tower and license issued in Missouri for this one, which explains the K.  There are some exceptions though, dating back to the early days of radio.  KDKA in Pittsburgh is one.

Fine song.  Don't know if I'd want to hear it every week, though.

It's dead, it's in the middle and it's stinking to high heaven.

I'm old enough to remember when that song was a current Top 40 hit.

I think it's based on transmitter location:

Qunicy, IL is east, but the transmitter is west.

I'd sooner ride a mule around the world..

No, but they might play it night after night after night after night, alright?

This summer I went swimming
This summer I might have drowned
But I held my breath and I kicked my feet
And I moved my arms around, I moved my arms around

My mom used to sing that song to me. I had no idea it was an actual novelty song recorded by Loudon Wainwright III.

Interesting.

When the kids were little, we used to sing this song about once a month on the way to Sunday mass and their Sunday school. We live way out in the country and people from the suburbs would dump their cats and dogs out on the road to town. It was depressing to see the dead critters on the highway. So one day I remembered this song and started singing it, and it grew into a sing a long thing every time we'd see road kill. Those were some happy times. I want it sung loudly and off key at my wake, right before they say the rosary.

Now one son lives in Connecticut (what a weird place) and the last time I went to visit him we saw a dead cat on the road and spontaneously busted out singing it, much to the annoyance of his wife and mother-in-law, who were riding along with us.

Funny, anytime I'm near enough to Quincy to pick up their stations, it seems like EVERY song they play is from the 80s.

Well, that's 3 minutes a day they haven't had to plan for almost 30 years now, so... good job?

That's the first song that came to my mind after reading the headline. L.A. radio station KLOS played that song around 5pm for about a couple of decades.

Where I used to live, the radio station I preferred would play "American Women" at exactly the same time our alarm clock went off every single morning for months. We eventually had to find a new station because we wanted to beat the shiat out of the alarm clock for it. WTF radio station guy.

You should move to Chicago. They play 80's -and- 70's music.
Farkin playlists in that shiathead town haven't changed since 1988.
