(Guardian)   More than a half-million migrating sandhill cranes will soon take over Nebraska, eating all the food, crapping everywhere and disrupting the sleep of residents, just as though Nebraska had real people willing to vacation there   (theguardian.com ) divider line

The cranes winter over here. It is really cool seeing them strut around.

I assume they haven't been added to the game list for water foul in Nebraska. It's a tasty bird.

Too snobby to vacation in Nebraska.

North-western Nebraska shares the Pine Ridge Indian reservation with south-western South Dakota, the most third world shiathole in the western hemisphere. You may just have weird definitions of pretty, but I certainly wouldn't consider that area anywhere close to pretty. Way too much desolate poverty.

They almost carpet the fields when they're near the river en masse... I just want to eat one... one bird... it's not going to hurt anything...

Had one in January for the first time. We bagged one and smoked the breast and legs. It's very nice.

I think the Pine Ridge Reservation (and its poverty) is entirely in South Dakota. If it extends into Nebraska at all, it is only a very little bit. So you shouldn't use that as your evidence that northwestern Nebraska isn't pretty. Of course, it depends on what you like, but there is plenty for your eyes to enjoy out there. Nebraska Nat'l Forest, Toadstool Nat'l Park, Scotts Bluff, Chimney Rock are a few.
