After a couple of thousand dead and injured helping an ally, that type of comment wears a bit thin up here.

To demonstrate how serious the situation was, the soldiers were sent home...southwards.

You can't be surprised at this. People like that just think it's funny to disrespect fallen soldiers.

My uncle was in the Army back in the 60s stationed in Alaska.  Someone made a wisecrack about the Canadian Army, and he spent about a half hour talking about how he'd crossed paths with some guys from their army, and basically said that they were a tough and nasty bunch that he wouldn't have dared fark around with.

I thought it was an interesting story.  Of course, I heard it 20 years ago and that uncle is dead now, so my memory of the complete story was drank away a long time ago.

Oh lighten up.

If you'll recall the record is Canada:1 US:0

Also the national sport of Canada is strapping knives to your feet and beating the hell out of each other. If you're really lucky, they let you get hit by 90mph lumps of frozen rubber for a whole hour. Also, pretty sure you have to half bear to survive north of about Calgary for very long. That's worldwide and includes Russia and Finland. Of course Canada has a military. And no, the Pope doesn't shiat in the woods... often.

I've been informed on many occasions that Canada has an odd mixture of excellent soldiers with world class training and skills who are using shiat equipment.  I really don't know but the history of our military and our recent performance seems to back that assertion up.

I'm not in the habit of white knighting pilots, but what kind of drugs do you suppose are popular in a place with a 60 day growing season?

It was 9 soldiers. From the headline, I was picturing a regiment or two packing up their BPM's and loading onto LCAC's, then zooming past Sara Palin's house on the way home, tossing out empty vodka bottles and maple syrup jugs.

You're not wrong. Canadians cross train with the US military all the time. They basically stick to our standards in terms of individual readiness, and say what you will but their is no military in the world that is as well trained as the US military. So yes, Canadian forces are professionally trained, but they don't have any where near the funding as the US. Which to be fair isn't a fair comparison really, no country spends as much on the military as America.

/served with a number of other nations
//Canadians are cool guys, same with brits but I wouldn't trust a Jordanian to go to the bathroom without a negligent discharge.

Not defending the way certain people choose to disrespect our allies, but please keep in mind we're not all tools.

Having said that, if you're going to claim that a subset of the Canadian population doesn't feel free to sling around snide comments about us in return, I will find that surprising.

Comments on that site lead me to believe that Canadians can be just as ignorant as Oklahomans.

Harper should indeed disregard the referendum in the Crimea since his own people are close to revolting against him.
