My paternal grandmother once hit the same state trooper's car three times in the same day. Granted; each time was less than a minute apart...

/ in her defense; there was ice involved

I did pass out in the left turn lane once. Some old guy behind me got out of his car and woke me up to see if I was OK. The second I woke up I slammed on the gas and ran the red light. Whoops.

At least it wasn't a "rookie" mistake.

The other takeaway: If you're in Missouri and think you're too drunk to drive, don't try to sleep it off in the car, because you'll get a DWI anyway. Might as well drive home and sleep in your own bed, the odds of not getting caught are better.

Laws vary by state, but depending on where you are, you can sleep in the backseat, disconnect the battery so the car isn't operable, or put the keys where you can't reach them, like the trunk. Of course, in some places, you're just screwed.

Pro tip for cops: reach in and turn off the key before you wake up the drunk.

Or maybe, you know, park behind them?

I've always hated the law about sleeping it off in the car for that very reason. It actually encourages people who might otherwise have just slept in the back seat of their car to drive and has probably resulted in an enormous number of accidents and fatalities which could have been avoided had that person just slept it off.

Well, I'll give it points for being more funny than the story a friend told me years ago about falling asleep at the gas pump while waiting for someone to leave so he could pull up.  A police officer knocked on his window, causing him to wake up and see a car in front of him and scream. While slamming his foot down on the brakes over and over again.
