This has obviously been a very brutal Caturday for many people and my sincerest condolences go out to you all.

Unfortunately, it is with a very heavy and broken heart that I have to add to the list as I had to help my white boy over the bridge a few hours ago. As much as I did not want to let him go, I knew in my heart that it was time - and the very least I could do for my faithful friend of almost 18 years was not to make him suffer for my sake.

He was always there for me through the years since he was a kitten - through sickness, family issues, job changes, money problems, divorce and relocation - and all he ever asked for in return was a few chin scritches, a lap to purr on and his gooshy food (and of course the occasional spicy chicken wing).

I would like to believe that I saw gratitude in his eyes as I held him while he slipped away, acknowledging that I was trying to return the favor and be there and do what I believed in my heart what was best for him.

There will never be another cat as special to me as my white one was. I know you will all understand, because in a very real way, Dragon belonged as much to Caturday as he did to me.

Once again, I thank you all for the love and support you have provided to me and the late fuzzy white boy over these many years. You have enriched our lives with your humor, comments and captions, and for welcoming us into the best family we could ever hope to be a part of.

Rest in peace, my dearest friend. Daddy will always love you, and never forget you. I already miss you so much.

I don't know about the rest of you folks...
but as soon as the commodities market opening bell rings on Monday,
I'm selling short on Spicy Chicken Wing futures.

Sherpa, I've been sitting here for a while now, trying to think of something to say about Dragon, and there's just nothing that's RIGHT to say, because there can't be. I have been there with my Mr Marmalade, and then his sister a month later, and it was indescribably awful. I know Dragon will be OK because you are there and will be until the end when it's that time, but I'm worried for YOU. I really don't know what to say other than I am really very sorry you are going through this and wish I was nearby so I could come sit with you and you maybe wouldn't feel quite so alone, even though I know and you know you're not alone. I remember that feeling and know you gotta be feeling it too. I'm so, so very sorry. I wish there was something I could do. :'-(

Tried for light, got a hankie alert...
Sun Shines Brightly

The sun shines brightly,
Bathing recumbant felines,

In a heavenly glow.

Black is made
Chocolate brown,

White glows,
Illuminating the cat within.

Tigers bask,
As is their want.

Smoke gray,
Becomes the palest blue.

Cats lift their faces,
Sniff long.

Now is the time.

Leaping off treasured perches,
They gather.

Whisper.

Send their purrs,
Across Oceans.

Over Mountains.

To be heard by
Those bereft.

Sending sunbeams,
Warm fur.

Into those mourning
Souls.

A beam of light.

Into the darkness
Of their sorrow.

Reminding us,
The sun shines brightly.

As constant as
Our love for them,

And their love for us.

For Sherpa and anyone else who lost a furry friend this week

"Grief is the price we pay for having loved. Through all the tears and sadness and the pain of grief comes one thought that can make us smile again: we loved a particular animal dearly and that love was returned manyfold."

ProcrastinationStation: looong time lurker (im useless at posting pics, so I just follow along) checking in to offer condolences to Sherpa.  Ive been lurking so long I feel like I know Dragon, and I admit to shedding a tear upon learning of his passing.  Saturday mornings with a cup of coffee and Caturday were an integral part of my own cancer journey (FARK YOU CANCER! - almost 2 year breast cancer survivor YAY).....

My 16 year old furball enjoys reading Caturday threads with me and Im sure he will be saddened to learn this news. And he will get extra lubs and noms....  I know I too will face the dreaded bridge with him soon enough (will be my first go around with it and Im terrified of the day)....

hugs to all

Hugs right back to you. Don't dread the bridge. The Rainbow Bridge is actually Bifrost, which connects Asgard, where the gods dwell, to Midgard, where humans dwell. We know this because the lore calls Bifrost "the rainbow bridge". Bifrost is guarded by the great god Heimdall who will sound Gjallarhorn before the final battle. So imagine it - Heimdall is standing there, doing as he always does - throwing tennis balls and sticks for all the doggies that have made their way there over the years and always, always watching Midgard from his place at the end of the bridge. Suddenly, all the doggies stop playing and look across the bridge. The great god Heimdall looks up. Off in the distance, just on the other side of the bridge,a figure approaches! Heimdall raises Gjallarhorn to his lips and blows the mighty horn, the sound carrying across all of Asgard, raising the alarm.

Thor grabs his hammer, Odin his spear, Freyja readies her war chariot - all the gods and goddesses who live there stop what they're doing and prepare themselves for battle. The Einherjar leap from their feasting benches and grab their weapons, ready to march across Bifrost "600 abreast" and fight the approaching Jotun and dishonorable dead who have escaped the boundaries of Helheim. The figure draws nearer and all of Asgard is watching, ready to give it a greeting of steel and rage the likes of which have never been seen before.

But wait! There's no great army behind the figure. As it draws nearer still it seems the figure is actually quite small. Frigg narrows her eyes and stares intently at the small figure crossing the bridge, because she can see quite clearly what others can't. So far in fact, she can see things that haven't even happened yet. It takes her only one look to know who it is that approaches.

"it's a cat"

The divine assemblage relaxes and slowly makes their way back to their own halls. The day is not Ragnarok and we are safe from that doom for a bit longer yet.

Except one. Lady Freyja's cats - the two pulling her chariot - want to meet their friend and draw the Lady herself to give good greeting and offer hospitality to their newly arrived kin after his long and hard journey. She bends down and scratches behinds his ears and under his chin, picking him up and carrying him with her back to her own hall, Sessrumnir. Lady Freyja takes her seat once more and tells him "Welcome home, old friend. Will you tell us of your time in Midgard?" and all the countless cats who have gone before who now dwell with Lady Freyja sit and wait and listen. They sit like that for a long time, telling of their adventures, their victories and even their failures, but most importantly, they tell of those who they had to leave behind who gave them such love and care and who misses them so terribly. When all the stories are done, all the tales of deeds large and small have been heard, Lady Freyja smiles and says "Your human should have another companion to love them and love in return. Let's pick one for them." Then on that same day here in Midgard, another tiny soul with a heart bigger than even the moon wanders into your life with all the love and blessings of Asgard.

I had this idea. As we mourn for Dragon, and so many others this weekend, could we purrhaps make a donation, in the name of Caturday, to our local no kill shelter? Or to our own vet, to help others who need funds? We might call it the Dragon Fund, and pay it forward?

I will lend to you for awhile a kitten, God said.
For you to love while he lives, and mourn when he's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three.
But will you, 'till I call him back, take care of him for me?

He'll bring his charms to gladden you and, should his stay be brief
You'll always have his memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught below I want this kitten to learn.

I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true.
And from the folk that crowds life's land I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take my kitten home again?

I fancied that I heard them say 'Dear Lord Thy Will Be Done'
For all the joys this kitten brings the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness, we'll love him while we may.
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay.

But should you call him back much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.
If, by our love we've managed your wishes to achieve,
Then in memory of him whom we loved, please help us while we grieve.
When our cherished kitten departs this world of strife,
Please send yet another needing soul for us to love all his life.

TOWG: I am beyond devastated. yesterday my son had to make the hardest decision we pet owners have to face. His courage was more than I would expect from a 19 y/o young man. Toby was a sweet young dog,RIP you good boy. After returning home I discovered that my beloved best friend of 8 1/2 years, Scruffles, was in respiratory distress so off to the emergency vet again to see a second loved one be helped over the bridge in the space of 6 of the worst hours of my life. RIP Scruffles. I know it will get better in time but right now I still can't stop crying.

Those times are our worst fears, and our worst realities... we all have to go through that at some point, and avoid thinking about it as much as possible... until suddenly we are there..  decisions have to be made, it is our duty to those we care for.. at some point it is time to go, for all of God,s creatures... savor the memories you have enjoyed.. your life has been enriched by them, and you have given them a better life in return..  our condolences for your loss..  time will heal the wound, and when you are ready there are so many that are looking for a home and companionship..

I just wanted to add my condolences to Sherpa on the loss of Dragon.  My heart breaks for you, and know that we are here to offer love and support anytime you need us.

One of the (seemingly) hundreds of rescue organizations that I follow on Facebook is doing a fundraiser to help rebuild their outside enclosure, which was damaged during a storm this winter.  They are selling flower bulbs to raise money.  I am going to buy some bulbs and plant them outside of my sunroom.  Then when they bloom, I will remember Dragon and his antics.

Hugs to all who have lost loved ones this week, and here's hoping for better weeks to come!

yellowcat: Oh Sherpa, I'm so sorry. I had hoped you would have your white boy a little longer. He knows how much you loved him.

I've been on Fark for years, lurked since 2000, signed on in 2004, but Caturday is about the only time I ever post, I got TF for that reason. I remember the early Saturday Cat threads -- all the great photos posted by Sister Hand Grenade (those were fun on dial-up!) and Bessyglass. Caturday was a Saturday morning ritual for me and my late kitty Barclay. When he got sick (FU Cancer in humans & animals), the advice and sympathy I received from all of Caturday helped me prepare to help him cross over. We have two new kitties now who we love to death, but they'll never be another cat like Barclay for me & my husband.

My two favorite guys.

Now that you mention her, I'm reminded that  Sister Hand Grenade of Quiet Reflection is my favorite Fark handle.

/of ALL TIME

On a semi-related note, my girlfriend borrowed my house this weekend to have one of those parties where a gaggle of womenfolk get together and try to sell each other things (I gather this was a scrapbook-y sort of thing).  Naturally, I buggered off to visit some friends and play far too many board games.  When I returned, I found a small, red shutterfly box on the couch.  On it was written

"I got you something for Stud-Muffin's [the name she called Kay] b-day.  Love [name redacted]  (You're allowed to open early)"

This month would have been Kay's sixth birthday.  Inside was a photo album, with a miniature look back at Kay's life.  It got awfully dusty in here for a while.  It's now standing on the shelf behind his ashes, paw print, name-giving key, and green rope.

Sherpa, I sent a message to my beloved Mikey last night to watch for your Dragon. I am sure he and Jerry were there to meet him and show him around. There must be a heck of a party there right now with all the new kitties dancing and playing in their new found health and vigor. What kind of stories will they tell of us, how funny we looked as we crawled around the floor to get their toys out from under the sofa? The things we did to entertain them with feathers on a stick? How we reacted to the gifts they left us in our shoes?

This is a sad caturday this week, so may sads.

I hope this is not going to sound flip But I think, with all the losses this week, including our Venerated Dragon, we need an old fashioned Wake. At a Wake, we celebrate a person/critter's life. We tell tales that made us laugh and cry. And we honor them for the influence they have on our lives..

Please allow me to go first? I lurked for a looong time on Caturday. Pre Alien in fact. I never thought I would become part of all this wonderful family. When I de- lurked, it was Sherpa who encouraged me, and I loved the felines swanning over Dragon. I made " potato" toys for Dragon, and once in a while Eli the Bitey would send him toys that met his seal of approval. I even wrote a poem dedicated to Dragon, on his birthday, a few yrs ago. I feel priveleged to have " known" Dragon, even though I never met him.

* raises glass* here is to Dragon, and his faithful human slave. Thank you for gracing my Puurrsdays, and beyond. Rest. Bask forever in the light of our love Dragon. Be at peace dear sherpa.

It's a sad week for the DoomsDayAardvark family, too.  To recap the story...

Muriel was the feral cat who had been a pretty much permanent fixture on my parents' front porch for the last decade.  At first, she came as a companion to Hemingway, the polydactyl cat who eventually self-domesticated (he died in 2009 - complications of FIV).  She came nearly every day, no matter the season.  She would sometimes even bring a kitten or a "date" with her.  They'd made her various little shelters to hide in during the cold months, and she'd always be there to greet them when they came home from work.  This winter, after the first polar vortex, she disappeared for a few days.  They were sure she'd frozen to death somewhere, but then she showed up again, looking (as my mom put it) like she'd been pulled backwards through a knothole.  After that experience, she actually let them pet her for the first time.  A few days later, they let her inside, and she'd spent the following few weeks living in their basement.

Finally, this week, they managed to get her into a carrier, and off to the vet, hoping that they'd found another permanent addition to the family (just as they were about to move to a new house).  Unfortunately, the vet discovered that she, like Hemingway, was FIV positive, and had lost most of her top layer of fur to some mystery illness.  Though still strong at the time, she was starting to fade, and with FIV, the vet didn't give her very good chances.  They made the sad decision to help her pass in a warm, safe place, getting the petting she never got as a street urchin.

/bye, Muriel

**  DRAGON UPDATE  **

So far so good! The white boy is still hanging tough, he decimated his chicken wing last night, and seems to be comfortable - although it is still taking him an extended period of time to urinate (but he IS urinating) he is eating, drinking, and he just  interrupted my trying to type this with a massive cuddle/purr session. He also spent about 20 minutes grooming himself after dinner - also a good sign.

While I have not yet gotten caught up on the entire thread (lots of comments I have to respond to) I once again want to stop and thank everyone for their support, it means the world to both of us.

We finally go the call from the shelter, and on Tuesday in a snow storm on the way home from work, I picked up our new temporary housemates...
They are still in quarantine in the guest room for a couple more days, but they have the run of the room with some new toys, safe nest spaces and hiding places, a litter box of their own, food & water topped up often, and a ton more room than at than at the shelter.  We also have the nanny cam to keep an unobtrusive eye on the lot between visits.

this is the momma...

she's young and slight, and skittish, but not as skinny or skittish as Pandora was...
(I love the tail wrapped around the nursing kitten...)

I guess we'll start with that one...

and there are two more...

The kittens are almost 4 weeks and happy health playful tumbly fluffy smiles.  Should help the rest of winter to go by quickly.

How's Buddy?

Hey, thanks for thinking of us, especially with the events of this weekend.

He's not having a very good few days, won't eat, periodically vomiting bile, weak, very tired.  He's been like this several times before though, and so far has always come out of it on his own within a few days to a week or so.  We're trying to stay strong and nurse him through it, without losing our shiat & panicking that this is the beginning of the end.

He's still drinking a healthy amount of water each day and peeing normally, which is probably a good sign.  He almost, *almost* licked a pretzel stick last night (didn't eat it, but didn't try to run away from it), which is the first interest he's shown in food since Saturday.  Not interested in food yet today though.  I think we'll break out the stir-fried chicken for dinner tonight in the hopes that he'll be tempted to eat some.

He loses his bladder control at night a little sometimes so I just ordered him a belly-band from a local lady who makes them, hopefully that will help not only with keeping things tidy but also with keeping up morale.

Thanks again for asking.  Here is a pic of him having a good comfy snooze between mommy and daddy on the couch.

How's Jazzy coming along today?  Much better I hope.  Give her and all your little critters a scritch for me.

There is one place I don't let him go: the space between my desk and the printer table where all of the cords and powerstrips are. Of course, he goes there every chance he gets and when he gets pulled out by the scruff, he jumps right back in. He has already pulled cords out of my computer and turned a powerstrip off.

I had a similar problem.  I solved it in part by by fashioning a couple of triangles out of cardboard, putting my powerstrips in them and taping them in place so if an inquisitive cat wanders into that area, the on/off switches don't get stepped on.

He also loves water and enjoys getting sprayed by the "Bad Kitty" bottle. I found an alternative that works:

[i283.photobucket.com image 265x300]

You just have to remember to not spray it at the face. A good shot to the side or back end works just as well (I think the sound is just as deterring as the blast of air). He knows enough now to get out of there if I grab the can, I don't even need to spray it.

This morning I was on the toilet when he brought his fuzzy ball in. I grabbed it and threw it and he brought it in again. We actually played fetch for a couple of minutes, with him dropping the ball at my feet each time, until Mika decided to grab the ball and run off with it.

Great minds think alike! Gogh doesn't love water or anything, but when he's banging on the door to the Super Secret Lair of Infinite Doom while I am in here plotting world domination and destruction on a massive scale (in my room, taking a nap), I don't always want to OPEN the door or he will get in here. He's just that fast. Plus he uses his size to bulldoze everything in his path - including me. So I use
ecx.images-amazon.com
right under the door. The sound of something hissing!!! at him like that convinces him he really, really doesn't want to be anywhere near my door for the next hour or so, at least. However long it takes the horrible hiss monster to go away, anyway. That gives me a little bit more time to nap because yelling at the door doesn't work and he's impossible to sleep near because he insists on sleeping on your face. NO. Just NO.

Of course then he goes to the end of the hall and sings the plaintive song of sorrow, pain and loss known to his people since the dawn of time, but that's better than it sounding like there's a SWAT team made of midgets trying to bust through my door.

I'm trying to get done stuff I didn't do yesterday, and am cruising right along. The good thing about the "oh gods, kill me now" level of headache and sick I had yesterday means even though I am still unwell and still have a headache, it's calmed down enough I don't really mind having it. I know things could be much, much worse because they were yesterday. So of course I've got a couple batches of cookies done already, made and ate a breakfast and am taking a break before starting another batch of cookies or my coffee cake I need to make - I've not decided yet. So, catching up on yesterday, then I'll start today. Deal? DEAL!

Oh noes, I have a teenager in the house! Hector is 10 months old now (the equivalent of 13-14 in human years) and is really acting like a teen. He is stubborn and willful and a real brat. There is one place I don't let him go: the space between my desk and the printer table where all of the cords and powerstrips are. Of course, he goes there every chance he gets and when he gets pulled out by the scruff, he jumps right back in. He has already pulled cords out of my computer and turned a powerstrip off. He also loves water and enjoys getting sprayed by the "Bad Kitty" bottle. I found an alternative that works:

i283.photobucket.com

You just have to remember to not spray it at the face. A good shot to the side or back end works just as well (I think the sound is just as deterring as the blast of air). He knows enough now to get out of there if I grab the can, I don't even need to spray it.

This morning I was on the toilet when he brought his fuzzy ball in. I grabbed it and threw it and he brought it in again. We actually played fetch for a couple of minutes, with him dropping the ball at my feet each time, until Mika decided to grab the ball and run off with it.
No new pictures. He doesn't stay still long enough.

You guys, I'm still feeling unwell and headachey and stuff, and don't think I'll be able to catch up tonight, but I'm trying, one page at a time. I'm hoping I'll be 100% again by tomorrow. I'm feeling a little better, but still pretty bad. I am drinking a lot of water and taking my meds, which are hitting me kinda hard. That doesn't usually happen to me. I wonder if I caught a weird bug of some sort and that's why I feel so awful. Boo! HISSSSS!!! Wouldn't surprise me, really.

professional_vampire: Just got home from getting a much-needed mani/pedi and I have one question for RWDA - how do you stand the nail polish fumes?!? My head is spinning and my brain hurts! I look good, though.

lol! I'm only doing my own nails over here, so I don't have dozens of women hanging around, stinkin' the joint up with fumes. My favorite brand of polish is Julep - which is four free and doesn't smell as bad, so it's not usually a problem for me.

Feels nice to have fancy pointy bits, doesn't it? :-)

After everything that has happened in this thread, I'm touched you remembered my little girl. She seems to be slowly improving. Not nearly as much whining/yelping when she's picked up. I told Raven and Riktor why I had such a sad...
and they have stuck with me all day; sitting in my lap, following me around, supervising trips to the necessary...

They understand so much more than we give them credit for.
Wimsey and D'Artagnan are out taking advantage of the good weather doing Cat Stuff...otherwise they'd probably be hanging with me as well.

Tigerose, I will take your suggestion and make a donation to my Sainted Vet in Dragon's memory to help out those who need it.
He does a lot of work pro bono for a no-kill shelter so this will be a good thing.

My clowder is either spoiled rotten or very well cared for...and it's because I know that the day will come when I have to say "goodbye".
It doesn't make a whole lot of difference if I have warning or it happens suddenly- it's going to break my heart and leave a hole in my universe. I don't want "If I had only _____" (fill in blank) regrets...I KNOW my furkids have the absolute best life I am able to give them.

I think it's 'very well cared for'...people shake their heads at the fuss I make over them, but the consensus is that they are all very nice, well-behaved, well-mannered cats.
There's also a line of people who want to be one of my cats in their next life.
I should only live so long...

Long day here, was spay/neuter day at the rescue.

we did something like 28 or 29 kitties, all but 6 were female. Another was scheduled to be spay but she was quite pregnant, like had my hand on her belly and felt the kittens squirming pregnant (cool feeling BTW) so she went home with foster momma until babies born and weaned. Most of the kitties were helping some women who have taken charge of throw away kitties (you know, the ones that the neighbors throw out when they get evicted, foreclosed, etc) and almost 1/2 were from that group. Really going to help control the pet population in their area and they were also give quite a bit of kibble to help keep the colonies fat and happy :)

Also had a momma brought in with kittens that are not even a week old. I should have gotten a couple of pictures, they were so tiny. I kept calling them Jellybeans and when they asked why, had to show the picture of the momma with babies saying she wanted minions but got fluffy jelly beans instead.

The Einherjar leap from their feasting benches and grab their weapons, ready to march across Bifrost "600 abreast" and fight the approaching Jotun and dishonorable dead who have escaped the boundaries of Helheim. well, instead of dreading that time, focus instead on loving your critter each and every day. Then, when that time does come, you can honestly say that your pet had the best life you could provide. Believe me, it makes a huuuge difference. And there is something, comforting to know that your pet trusts you to provide an end, when life becomes too painful. I know we all say it, but you really will know the time. It will hurt like hades. But you will know you did the right thing.

I was trying to remove the caulk from around the tub in the guest bath yesterday morning, Tom jumped in the tub and began to purr up a storm. Then he watched me for a moment and began biting the pieces of caulking and pulling on it with his teeth. He would drop most of it in the tub and then get another piece. I was afraid he would eat some of it as he has a history of eating things he shouldn't so I had to make him leave. He really tried to help, but home improvement with a cat is much harder than without a cat.

That's beautiful. Seems as though tigerose isn't the only one of us with a way with words.

Oh Sherpa, I'm so sorry.

I was late to the Caturday party, I thought Fark was just some dumb website my husband spent too much time on. When Cretinbob told me about Caturday where crazy cat people hung out, I had to see what it was all about.
I "met" Sherpa and the others here on Caturday, then someone had a wild idea about sending Alien on a trip here to NY to take one of our cats to Texas. It just got crazier from there.
We had the chance to meet in person, Sherpa is as sweet in real life as he is on Caturday. He even went out of his way to hunt down some pizza bread for me on his way  up here, which only Jersey people would understand. We all had a blast that weekend, lots of alcohol was consumed, lots of laughter and good times. He's the type of guy who would do anything for anyone and loved Dragon more than anyone can imagine.

So I raise a glass of rum to Sherpa and Dragon.
RIP sweet Dragon, you were loved by all.
Sherpa, we love you and we're all here to hold you up through this painful time and will be here for whatever you need.

Never did get my baking done today. Too depressed to do much of anything. So I did the worst thing possible and looked at nail polish, which turned into buying nail polish. I shop and eat when I'm sad and the overwhelming sads this Caturday got me. However, I kept the polish shopping sane (great deal on the polish and have 18 bottles of colors missing from my Klean Color line collection on the way for a grand total of $21.40 - which I can make back on mTurk on Monday) and the eating, well, I made dinner and I was thinking of Dragon, so it turned into the White Dragon's Spicy Chicken Pizza. Serves one mourner. I'll have to look at how much of everything I used after my nap time so I can give you guys a rough recipe.

www.ftad.fr

I know I missed a lot of people having sads, and I'm sorry. I'm really bad at knowing what to say when someone loses a loved one, no matter what the species, so I tend to say nothing at all. I just don't know what to say because there's really nothing you CAN say. Nothing makes that hurt better except time. It never completely goes away - I know that from harsh experience, some of it rather recent - but at least you eventually quit feeling as if you can't even breathe and are trapped and alone in some horrid, slow-mo, Kafka-esque nightmare inside. It does ease up in time, even if it feels like it never will. That I know I can promise, I just can't promise when.  There are a lot of us who understand and hurt right along with you - we remember when our own pain was so incredibly fresh. It's the worst feeling in the world. I am so, so sorry for everyone who is hurting right now.

I've been crying off and on since I saw on FB about Dragon... sherpa and Dragon were among those who tried to help with Lucy and also with Cassie. sherpa actually helped me switch to the Feline Pine litter.  I know my Lucy is there to welcome Dragon and I'm sure she's incredibly happy to meet him after all this time!  I found a few things I'd saved on the computer...  I can't remember who captioned them.

And finally, I found this pic again.  I think it may be time for us to update with the halos...

Well, this sucks....
I'm at work and have been running all day...
And then, not caught up I saw a post of Facebook that concerned me so I immediately came here to Caturday...
And found what I was dreading to read.

Sherpa my friend, my heart is broken, like all others. I can only grieve on the inside here at work, none will understand. But, grieve I certainly do. I am so very sorry at the passing of the Venerable Dragon. Both of you are such important parts of Caturday. I hope we can find peace within our hearts at this difficult time. I'm sure we can do it together! I am, and always will be here for you.
Rest well my dear Dragon... rest well..

tigerose, I see you are making suggestions, but I haven't had a chance to read the thread. Please all be patient, I will try to catch up!

For all of those grieving, I am sorry. I truly am. Please accept my hugs from afar, they are here for the taking and I have limitless hugging capabilities!

I can imagine the Caturday parties they'll be having up there at the bridge, as you said, telling stories about how silly their humans were.
I hope my Mr T, Genny, Ghost and Jeff also met Dragon and introduced themselves as part of the Caturday gang.
Someday when it's my turn to leave this earth, I hope to see them all again. I'll bring some wings for Dragon, and cheese for my guys.

For sherpa18...

You and Dragon always were a staple of Caturday. Even when I was first lurking, I always loved your stories of the spicy-wing-demanding-kitteh. And after I became more of a posting-member, I remember how I asked how to get my kittehs to eat pills, and your Dragon let you send some of his pill-pockets to me to help out, along with some toys. My kitties always remember that act of kindness, and still play with those toys today. Everyone here knows and loves Dragon, and it is such a blow to all of his to hear him go. But what a blessing that he has touched so many lives :) We love you, Dragon, sweet overlord.

Ok, maybe a bit irreverent, but I remember doctoring this up for the big guy :) I know some people added other things but due to some compy reformatting I lost em. Here's to you, Dragon!!!!

Sherpa, your community, your family is here for you. Know that we grieve with you. When one of us loses a family member we ALL lose a family member.

Ohh Sherpa.  I am so, so sorry.  Our hearts are breaking with you.  :,(

As Dragon was always there for you, you were there for him.  You were so lucky to have found each other and to have shared such a great, long life full of love and fun together.  What a great cat and a great friend he was -- he will be sorely, dearly missed.  We will keep his memory alive here on Caturday, and please remember, we are all here for you, arms and hearts wide open.

Rest in Peace, fuzzy white one.  Until we meet again.

Well tonight we are hazing Steamed Salmon, red pepper, sugar snap peas and mushrooms. Plus rice. I have a bamboo steamer, so I will put the hard veggies in the bottom and the salmon on the top tier. Added a bit of mirin to the veggies. Going to steam the shrooms with the salmon, which I will add a bit of soy and sesame oil.

On the other burner is tomorrows lunch of oxtail soup. After cooking for 2.5 hrs, I will pull the meat frm the bones, then stick it in the fridge and defat in the a.m.

Hungry yet?

I am sure of it. But I finally heard something I haven't heard in a long time. An I love you with no strings attached.

That was the hardest thing about my grandma dying last year. She was the ONLY one of my family that ever told me she loved me, let alone acted like it. That's no lie or exaggeration, either. I never felt as alone as I did when she died. My Caturday family definitely helped. I still miss my grandma more than anything and it's been 10 months. I'll probably never NOT miss her. I'm so sorry you're going through it, too. (((HUGS))) not as good as a real hug, but best we can do...

yobbery: OlderGuy: I guess no PW on the secondarys yet....

No, they're locked down. However after thinking about it I think I know how this may have happened.
Up to this point I've been managing access lists to restrict traffic in and out of those subnets. About a month ago a new guy in security was having trouble allowing traffic in to a specific host. He didn't know I was using access lists. I bet he loaded a rule set and then when he pulled it out he forgot to set it back to permit all traffic.

lysdexic: This week was close.

Yeah, it really blows when nothing seems to go right and it's all because of stupid shiat. It's never anything exciting like an equipment fire.

As someone who has worked in kitchens for the overwhelming majority of her life, I am kinda an expert in that department. Believe me when I say you totally don't want any of that type of excitement. Ever.

Jazzy and I are back from the vet. No high temperature, and her anal glands weren't 'too' bad. She has a spot on her bum that she's been scratching/chewing which could account for some pain, and a loose rear kneecap (which I don't recall being mentioned before). He gave her a steroid shot and Prednisone pills.

Thanks for all your good thoughts for her last night.

We got a new and unexpected addition to the family today.  Our workmen found her stuck inside a rooftop AC unit.  It was tricky to get her out, but she is in good shape.  There was no mama to be found, so we took her home.  She's eating and drinking and already likes to be held.  She will be hauled in for shots, etc., shortly, but so far she seems 100%.  No injuries and she appears healthy.

She must have a little fold DNA in her.  The tips of her ears are folded over and she could not be any cuter.  At the least, she's a medium hair, but who knows, she might fluff out in the fall.  Oh, and you can't quite see it in the photos, but there is a little grey soul patch right on her chin.

She doesn't have a name yet.  My family is kinda bad about that - sometimes we'll have cats for several months before the right name turns up.  In the meantime, she has other kitties to play with, lots of food, lots of snuggles, and some cozy places to take a nap.

YAY CATURDAY!

Just logged out from a sucky 90 minute marathon at work. I need to vent....

I was adding a new vlan and subnet to our core routers and distrubution switches. We have redundant equipment and run VRRP (which is identical to HSRP in Cisco terms). I was adding the config it to a secure segment which is to be firewalled (also redundant).
So I dump my scripts into all four devices and everything looks great, but I can't get the secondary router to respond. After burning my eyes out going over the same stuff ad nauseum I get the local engineer on the phone. After 30 minutes he can't find anything wrong either. Everything shows that it's up. I then discover that I can't get to many of the secondary interfaces that reside on the secure segment.

Turns out that someone was playing with the new firewall in front of the secondary router and must have loaded a rule set. We're not ready to configure them yet and they're supposed to be running in full passive mode.....apparently not anymore. So add to my loooong list of shiat to do tomorrow the fact that I'll need to spend lord knows how much time with the security team to get this sorted out.

Sorry for the totally geeky wall of text. I had to let that out.

2 CT sacans before surgery, 2 CT scans pre-chemo, at least one more post-chemo. More blood tests than I've been able to count. Chemo has me lethargic and achy, bot otherwise in good spirits.
