I will lend to you for awhile a kitten, God said.
For you to love while he lives, and mourn when he's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three.
But will you, 'till I call him back, take care of him for me?

He'll bring his charms to gladden you and, should his stay be brief
You'll always have his memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught below I want this kitten to learn.

I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true.
And from the folk that crowds life's land I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take my kitten home again?

I fancied that I heard them say 'Dear Lord Thy Will Be Done'
For all the joys this kitten brings the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness, we'll love him while we may.
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay.

But should you call him back much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.
If, by our love we've managed your wishes to achieve,
Then in memory of him whom we loved, please help us while we grieve.
When our cherished kitten departs this world of strife,
Please send yet another needing soul for us to love all his life.

I'm with you, tigerose. Sherpa & Dragon were mentors to me as well in my early TF days.

I'm already half in the bag with pain meds, so I'll just be with y'all in spirit, as it were...

Sherpa I am so, so sorry. :'-( I know all of our hearts are hurting both with you and for you right now.

tigerose: I hope this is not going to sound flip But I think, with all the losses this week, including our Venerated Dragon, we need an old fashioned Wake. At a Wake, we celebrate a person/critter's life. We tell tales that made us laugh and cry. And we honor them for the influence they have on our lives..

Please allow me to go first? I lurked for a looong time on Caturday. Pre Alien in fact. I never thought I would become part of all this wonderful family. When I de- lurked, it was Sherpa who encouraged me, and I loved the felines swanning over Dragon. I made " potato" toys for Dragon, and once in a while Eli the Bitey would send him toys that met his seal of approval. I even wrote a poem dedicated to Dragon, on his birthday, a few yrs ago. I feel priveleged to have " known" Dragon, even though I never met him.

* raises glass* here is to Dragon, and his faithful human slave. Thank you for gracing my Puurrsdays, and beyond. Rest. Bask forever in the light of our love Dragon. Be at peace dear sherpa.

I agree.  I, too lurked for a long time, and it was Sherpa who gave me the courage to take the plunge and jump into Caturday.  And it was all because of Dragon.  Sherpa has the patience of a saint and I have never known anyone like him!  Dragon and Sherpa sent Lily some toys and such for this past Christmas, and they have been her FAVORITE toys to play with!!!  She will get into her "toy box" and pull those out first!  Thank you, Dragon!!  If I had some spicy wings, I would raise them to you!!!  :D

Deepest sympathy to all those who have lost as well as thank yous to all who let us share with them in the joys/ frustrations/ wackiness and all else that is to have and be had by an animal friend, even the heartbreakingly sad bits.

I second the wake idea.

To Dragon and the joys he brought, and when his human's heart recovers, the memories that he will always shine with.

Oh I am so sorry to read this.  They do know that we are there for them at the end.  You helped him move to the next realm.  There are many chicken wings, many gooshy foods, many furry friends who are there to show him the way.  I have no doubt that Wraggs and Bob are there showing him where all the cool stuff is.  and his fellow white boy Misty is showing Dragon how easy it is to keep the white fur clean.

And for you, I am sending warm thoughts from me and my furkids

sherpa18: This has obviously been a very brutal Caturday for many people and my sincerest condolences go out to you all.

Unfortunately, it is with a very heavy and broken heart that I have to add to the list as I had to help my white boy over the bridge a few hours ago. As much as I did not want to let him go, I knew in my heart that it was time - and the very least I could do for my faithful friend of almost 18 years was not to make him suffer for my sake.

He was always there for me through the years since he was a kitten - through sickness, family issues, job changes, money problems, divorce and relocation - and all he ever asked for in return was a few chin scritches, a lap to purr on and his gooshy food (and of course the occasional spicy chicken wing).

I would like to believe that I saw gratitude in his eyes as I held him while he slipped away, acknowledging that I was trying to return the favor and be there and do what I believed in my heart what was best for him.

There will never be another cat as special to me as my white one was. I know you will all understand, because in a very real way, Dragon belonged as much to Caturday as he did to me.

Once again, I thank you all for the love and support you have provided to me and the late fuzzy white boy over these many years. You have enriched our lives with your humor, comments and captions, and for welcoming us into the best family we could ever hope to be a part of.

Rest in peace, my dearest friend. Daddy will always love you, and never forget you. I already miss you so much.

Want to think of Sigma Draconis as The Star that belongs to him purrsonally.  Wikipedia sez, according to GoodSearch:
Sigma Draconis,  Observation data all numbers & gibberish to non-stargazers, cept for this very last:
Sigma Draconis (σ Dra, σ Draconis) is a 4.7-Alsafi.[10]
Even this makes scant sense.  May later...

lilyspad: DoomsDayAardvark: [i445.photobucket.com image 604x453]

It's a sad week for the DoomsDayAardvark family, too.  To recap the story...

Muriel was the feral cat who had been a pretty much permanent fixture on my parents' front porch for the last decade.  At first, she came as a companion to Hemingway, the polydactyl cat who eventually self-domesticated (he died in 2009 - complications of FIV).  She came nearly every day, no matter the season.  She would sometimes even bring a kitten or a "date" with her.  They'd made her various little shelters to hide in during the cold months, and she'd always be there to greet them when they came home from work.  This winter, after the first polar vortex, she disappeared for a few days.  They were sure she'd frozen to death somewhere, but then she showed up again, looking (as my mom put it) like she'd been pulled backwards through a knothole.  After that experience, she actually let them pet her for the first time.  A few days later, they let her inside, and she'd spent the following few weeks living in their basement.

Finally, this week, they managed to get her into a carrier, and off to the vet, hoping that they'd found another permanent addition to the family (just as they were about to move to a new house).  Unfortunately, the vet discovered that she, like Hemingway, was FIV positive, and had lost most of her top layer of fur to some mystery illness.  Though still strong at the time, she was starting to fade, and with FIV, the vet didn't give her very good chances.  They made the sad decision to help her pass in a warm, safe place, getting the petting she never got as a street urchin.

/bye, Muriel
//we're sorry it couldn't have turned out better

Awww.....tell you folks that I am so sorry.

This is one of my favorite photos of Wraggs, this was about 15 days before she went to the next realm.  She was very good with my cats, she loved them and they loved her.  They also scared her....those pointy things on the end of their paws were scary!!!!  But she still loved them.  And their awesome gooshy foods!  and the litterbox treats!

Ohh Sherpa.  I am so, so sorry.  Our hearts are breaking with you.  :,(

As Dragon was always there for you, you were there for him.  You were so lucky to have found each other and to have shared such a great, long life full of love and fun together.  What a great cat and a great friend he was -- he will be sorely, dearly missed.  We will keep his memory alive here on Caturday, and please remember, we are all here for you, arms and hearts wide open.

Rest in Peace, fuzzy white one.  Until we meet again.
