the temps are supposed to get into the 40's today and it's already 20F which means the snow is melting and the mud season is almost upon us.

sherpa18: My dearest friends, as most of you who do the FB thingee already know (thanks to valnt9) my beloved white boy suffered a severe relapse late last night, and I absolutely lost it after thinking he was getting better (for those of you who are allergic to FB as I am, he stopped eating, drinking, and began having urinary issues again). I honestly did not think he would make it through the night.

Much to my relief, he was still hanging in this morning, but as the day progressed, he would not eat or drink and looked to be in some distress. I spoke to my vet, and we agreed that his demeanor was indicative of one of two things - either he had developed crystals/stones (which at this point is doubtful could be dissolved by conventional methods and would probably require surgical intervention, which in turn he would most likely not survive due to his compromised condition) or his kidneys are finally just shutting down after 18 months of late stage renal failure (which again, is fatal).

We also agreed that it was probably time for me to help him over the bridge. I thought I was prepared for this, but after crying like a little girl, I sat on my bed with the white one on my lap, and asked him if he was ready to go - and if not, he had to show me a sign that I was pulling the trigger too soon.

A few minutes later, he got up and had a drink. And then waited for me to crack open a fresh can of food - which he ate half of. While it still takes him 3-4 minutes in the litter box to urinate, he IS going (no blood, yowling or straining) ... and has continued drinking and eating and napping.

I'm now well aware that the end is inevitably swiftly approaching - it may be a day, a week, hopefully longer - but realistically - probably not .... but now I'm sure he will tell me when.  And it ain't tonight. So instead of going to the vet, I scraped up some spare change and ran out and bought him a half dozen chicken wings and his favorite pouch tuna.

*sorry, i had to interrupt this post t ...

Sherpa.. so sorry to hear this.. thought he was 'over the hump' and on his way back...  praying for a recovery.. Quiz made it to 21 despite some glitches, hope Dragon can do the same + ...   EIP or phone if you need......

spinach gunk: John Buck 41: My little girl needs a trip to the vet tomorrow. We noticed symptoms yesterday. She won't jump or get on her hind legs and 'do paws', can't go up or down stairs, keeps her tail tucked down all the time, sometimes whimpers when she tries to lie down, yelps when she moves suddenly, and her poops are very short and thin (though not necessarily runny). She's almost 9. Hopefully just a bug and nothing serious but Mrs. Buck and I are concerned. If the Caturday gang could toss a good thought towards Jazzy it'd be much appreciated. Thank you.

Aww, sending snuggles & healing thoughts to little Jazzy!  Poor sweet thing.  Fingers crossed that it's just a temporary blip, merely constipation, or something minor that will clear up by itself.

If funds allow, I would wholeheartedly recommend the vet do a geriatric panel blood test while you're there, just as a routine part of the check-up, even if it turns out her current issue doesn't require it for diagnosis.  It can detect a wide assortment of issues very early on, many of which are very manageable and even curable in the early stages long before she would exhibit any symptoms.  Nine is hardly "geriatric" for many dogs, but things like liver and kidney disease, diabetes, certain cancers, etc can get a foothold very sneakily, and I would hate to have anything like that overtake yet another of our wonderful Caturday friends, if it is at all preventable.

Apologies if I'm preaching to the choir -- I thought it certainly couldn't hurt to mention.  If it catches something that helps her feel even a teensy bit better settling into her golden years, why not.

Best wishes for a good appointment tomorrow.  Feel better soon Jazzy!

Thank you for the advice and the best wishes. We have an 11:30am app't. I'm thinking/hoping it's just an impacted anal gland which is a pretty easy fix.

sherpa18: My dearest friends,

I lurk a lot, but I've been watching this thread for many years. Since before the pink ambulance. And Dragon is a staple, as well as Sherpies. I'm so happy he's still with you. But as you said, his time is coming. At least you have the time now to ease to the moment when you help your boy over the bridge.

You both have my love and prayers.

Jazzy and I are back from the vet. No high temperature, and her anal glands weren't 'too' bad. She has a spot on her bum that she's been scratching/chewing which could account for some pain, and a loose rear kneecap (which I don't recall being mentioned before). He gave her a steroid shot and Prednisone pills.

Thanks for all your good thoughts for her last night.

Access Issues resolved for time being, regret didna make it here due to them early enough to be able to say Good Meowning & have it be literally true. Type at ft of pg2.
FangQ all who fetched mewbie pix, especially domari. Agree with spinach gunk & all others who said the one quite resembles Delta. 'Tis furrvently hoped she still rules roost as much as permitted. She seems to be A Type re coat pattern, which is good thing.
Also ya gotta sleep's nap shot. One who weighs 25 lb best be hugely framed to bear those lb safely. Too, lilyspad's cat scan & lysdexic's cat router watches u reticulate. Both of which am fairly sure had saved, now got 2 in varied locales, 99.4% likelihood.
Was gonna fetch pic but turned into 16pic album of Norse dog Tinni & fox friend Sniffer, subbied from imgur to reddit & drew 452 comments.

Yay caturday!
Boo, hiss on cancer and four footers being ill. One of my best friends is putting herself into a hospice next week.

I was much better this week myself, but had to laugh. A neighbor was just released back into her house from an assisted living place. Her first call was to me, begging for "any sort of smoked meat". I was just about to slice a pork butt for our dinner but had the teenager run it over to her. She called two hours later giving thanks but requesting I get her a duck, smoked fish, and a few other things. As well as calling at 6:30 this morning to remind me of her food needs.

On the far funnier side, "Panther explorer" our older alpha cat is getting old, no longer able to do the jumps he used to. But he still requires me to be available to sleep on. Yes, he runs the household. I have a large catnip garden every year. Panther discovered the hiding place last night and brought up a bag almost as heavy as he was that had catnip, toys, etc. This morning my wife woke up and was in hysterics, waking up Panther and myself. The bed was strewn with dried catnip, his majesty was curled up in my arms and snoring. Panther and I both just gave her the evil eye, I rolled over and Panther curled up next to me after giving a half hiss to her. Which caused much more laughter. Panther was still upset when the neighbor called and then curled up with his behind close to my face as he does to show displeasure. More wife laughter. Never marry a dog person.

I wasn't able to get on line until after lunch and was worrying as I scrolled down. Ah a big sigh of relief, Dragon isn't ready to leave yet, continued good thoughts going to him and Sherpa. Another sigh when I read John Buck's good news about Jazzy. May he have many more happy days with you.
