New rule:  If you are worth more than $1 billion, you don't get to whine about poor people getting basic government benefits.

Sooooo, just because she's a vile person; who has had her entire livelihood provided to her by someone else makes her opinion about welfare invalid?

/ yes, yes it does

Woman born with silver shovel in mouth removes it long enough to make vile, ignorant comments?

I am shocked and appalled.

Don't be silly - of course you do. On the other hand, if you are a realistic adult, you aren't going to whine about the fact that people may comment that your perspective isn't exactly relevant.

Is this the same fat twat who made comments that people drink too much and that's why they're not rich?

She's pushing 300 lbs and making statements like that.

I would say a platinum shovel in the mouth since she inherited billions. Though it's just like morons like Steve Forbes and Donald Trump, people who inherited their fortunes from their fathers and just do bad business, yet still complain about the "have nots who want more" (than the below bare minimum to live on!)

The current right-wing government is firing everything it has in trying to gut our social services at the moment. Just in the last few days it released a report blasting "rampant fraud" in our Medicare system - $400k worth, in fact. Now, while it sounds like a lot, you work it out in a nation of over 22 million people (and everyone here is covered by Medicare), and you work out that it's a veritable drop in the bucket, but they're still going to use it as a reason to try to gut Medicare or make it harder to access, if they can get away with it.

Basically, our conservatives are now taking cues from American conservatives, and going after all social services more than ever, even programs they wouldn't dare touch in years past.

Thank goodness she's ugly.  Thrills me to no end that she knows that no matter how much money she has, that a woman who grew up in a trailer park and turned into a hottie is more desirable than her.

She not only inherited billions, she had the foresight to inherit a metal mining company in Australia, whose product really took off the past decade.

If there was a god, she would have inherited Black Berry instead.

1) Convince everyone that poor people are poor because they're lazy
2) Cut welfare

Having your money handed to you by the government means you're lazy. Having it handed to you by your parents means you're industrious.

Having worked for some people who are worth a million buckaroos, I don't think a mil is the d-bag barrier. Keep in mind, I worked for them in a small town under 10k people. They could have been uber b-bags with a capital D and B. I'm going to hazard a guess a lot of social services go to the Indigenous Peoples?

I don't know what report you're talking about, but annual Medicare fraud is in the billions.

Australia's national healthcare system is called Medicare. This article is not about American Medicare.

I'm not entirely certain I believe that.

The problem is that the left and right can't concede some of the issues that the opposite side would be critical about.

2014-03-06 09:53:32 PM
You're not seeing a pattern here folks?
Rich people across the United States have been telling the press that:

A) Poor folks are poor because they are lazy.
B) Rich "people" "create" "jobs" because they work so hard.
C) Deficits are bad.
D) Tax cuts for the rich are good.
E) There is a "culture war" against the rich.
F) Benefits for the poor are bad.

Looks like Americans For Prosperity has begun extending its cold, clammy tentacle across the big swamp to Australia.

A million bucks is about what you need to retire comfortably these days. It's not a huge amount of money, relatively speaking.

You know, if you lump all rich people into the same category it's pretty much the same thing as saying all poor people are lazy or moochers

My problem here is that when Mark Latham criticises Gina Reinheart, I find myself agreeing with Mark and that's an uncomfortable feeling.
