(Reuters)   You have to go through the zoning board for a lot of things, like adding an in-ground pool, or a treehouse, or an open firing range in your backyard ... wait, NOT that last one?   (reuters.com) divider line 63

I can get aboard that ;)

Keys dude: Glass Ninja, I am the polar opposite of FTR ! And that site is the most hate-mongering, most ill-informed I have ever seen. I've organized fundraisers down your way in the Lower Keys. Good to have brethren here.

Oh, I know you're not the FTR guy!!! No offense intended!!! I was actually forced to a drink with him once.....excruciating!!! Thr guy who runs the site is actually pretty cool. Hates him too!! I'm sure we'll meet up someday. Stop at Coconuts, look for thr cute redhead, and you're tab is on me....;)

This is easy: noise ordnances. Basically make it expensive to do by enforcing noise laws that make them either have to put up sound barriers, etc., or stop doing it.

Also, fellow gun owners: don't be dicks.

EvilEgg: Trailltrader: Considering all the other laws, this one is a "no brainer".  The state has abused its position by forcing everyone and anyone to have permits for anything- every year, we read about how some kid in grade school gets their lemonade stand shut down because they didn't have a business license.

Now think on this, hard: if you were a bad guy and you heard gunshots what are the odd's of you doing a robbery in that neighborhood?  Knowing if you pulled any shiat you'd be leaking red stuff?

Provided the range is built with common sense- that is, berms to the front, left and right, in such a way as to absorb the impact of bullets- where's the harm?

Where's the harm of erecting a shed or keeping chickens? Annoyance to the neighbors.

Something about a Constitutional Right seems to address your liberal stance here.

ElLoco: Idiots like these are why we can't have nice things.

"Dude... it's legal to have a live-fire range in our back yard in the middle of town! Let's build one!"
"Are you sure that's the smart thing to do?"
"It doesn't matter if it's smart. It's legal."

... and yet another law is born from lack of common sense.

Hey lets have kids out of wedlock, dude, that's not smart!!! It doesn't matter if its smart, it's legal!! And the Federal and State governments have programs to help us do this!!

I'd have to see the guy's yard, what kind of hood it is in, before passing judgement. I've shot many times inside of many yards growing up and as an adult, and like most things there is a time and place for everything.

Some jackass here somehow managed to get a law passed saying you cannot discharge a firearm within 100 feet of a dwelling or some retarded shiat, even if it is your goddamn house and in the middle of nowhere.

I'm okay with a crossbow firing range in the backyard of a residential neighborhood, but not firearms.

ZAZ: This is a followup to "Backyard gun range legal. Neighbors advised to duck." from January.

Yeah, I was going to say so. I guess 6 weeks is considered long enough between articles to have the same conversation?

You have the right to own a gun, there is no right to fire it.

prjindigo: Calmamity: Making suppressors easy and cheap to get would help this problem.

suppressors turn a "12guage" into a "410guage" they do NOT silence the noise, just make it sound further away.

Using a .22 with subsonic ammo is pretty damn quiet.

miss diminutive: Barfmaker: miss diminutive: Why waste gasoline or electricity on lawnmowers when you can just shoot the grass?

Backyard gun ranges: the sustainable lawn maintenance measure

Where have you been? Where's your TF?

Did some travelling and then was productive at work for a while to make up for the impoverishment caused by said travelling.

/You rock!
//next time I'm in the Market, I owe you a beer

No worries, just need you back in your rightful place. Welcome home.

And yeah, sometimes I do rock.

TheMightyTimmah:a suppressed .22 would be perfect to practice marksmanship with without bothering the neighbors.

You dont practice shooting a firearm, just to practice shooting. You practice with a specific firearm to get used to THAT specific firearm. Not all firearms shoot the same.

Suppressed .22, lol the fark....
