Idina Menzel holds pretty much the record for the least attended show at the Iron Horse. Well, take that back, we did have a guy called Lion who rented the hall, and had zero people show up, save for his back up singer's girlfriend, but she was guestlisted, and looked really uncomfortable with the staff looking on. But Idina had exactly five people show, and pay to get in. And this was post Rent. Nice enough gal, but damn...

The most embarrassing part of that headline was the being how mangled it is

So is this a corollary to the Bubbeleh Starksand Rule?

She's got a really great voice, but I thought her performance at the Oscars was just awful.

Repeat?

Yeah so he mangled her name, she should just let it go.

Thank god. Now the "Travolta Bump" can mean something new; and we can forget its current, much more seedy definition.

For some strange reason, he'll be doing a press junket for the new Annie film.

How long before we find out the name mangling was all part of the plan to boost her career, and Menzel is actually a Scientologist ?

She's already one of the biggest stars on Broadway, somehow I think her career is fine.

It doesn't seem so difficult.  Maybe JT just didn't practice the name beforehand.

My theory is that she made some very minor transgression against Scientology. Not enough to warrant a full-scale blacklisting, but just enough that they needed to be petty about it somehow.

Yeah, this has been covered.  She seemed thrown off by the butchering of her name (in front of her largest audience ever) and then the conductor for some reason decided to rush the tempo out of the blue.

The syllables he used indicate a Scientology incantation of some kind.

She was struggling through that performance.  Just not in good voice at all, but damn she soldiered on the best she could.  The pre-taped performing on the Tonight show was a half step down and was much less cringe-worthy.

I'm not a fan of Menzel's singing style and I agree that she sounded terrible on the Oscars but her performance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and the Roots was AWESOME!  It helps when you have one of the best TV house bands backing you ... on toy instruments no less.

Menzel's a "belter" with very little subtlety in her performance style.  Constraining her in the little room with Fallon and the band took her voice back down into "controlled" range.

To be fair, that was the one of the worst musical performances I have seen at the Oscars. So this is probably a welcome blessing that Travolta butchered her name and everyone seems to be glossing over her performance.

Did you watch her performance on Fallon? That was awesome, I think it was far better than the Oscars(Which wasn't "awful", IMHO, just OK), since the whole band was basically backing her up on silly elementary school instruments, she was more or less doing the song A Capella, and really seems to be enjoying herself, which is always important to me. I like how much people can enjoy themselves when the world is their oyster, I hate moody, depressed successful people. I like people who are happy to be where we all want to be.

Does anything need to "go on" with his career? The guy has plenty of successful movies, he's probably sitting back enjoying life.
