Or, Boehner has announced he's not running for the Speakership next year and Cantor is trying to take a more public leadership role in hopes that wins him some votes in the fall. Not everything is a House of Cards-eqse master plan. In fact, 99% of DC politics doesn't rise past the level of High School "Who gets invited to the cool kids party" politics.

Is this where Cantor stabs Orangefried in the back.

Hey Boehner, if Eric invites you out hunting and your wife just knit you a fuzzy sweater with a cross on the chest.

1. You have the sweater on backwards.
2. Decline politely.

The GOP's goal is to get as many crazies they can get in front of the media. This is why their 2012 pres. Primaries went on forever with so many debates.

I don't think you RTFA?

Cantor has long been the favourite in the GOP to take over from Boehner, but he hasn't exactly been itching to do so.

I mean, really, why would he? He'd have all the same problems (Teatards) that Boehner has and likely would ruin his own career - certainly it's ruined Boehners and you can't say it's been all his fault, basically his party is a clusterfark right now.

It's a lot better for Cantor to stick close to the top spot, but not be the top spot, particularly if he has further political ambitions - like running for Senate, or even the Presidency some day. That way he's still got name recognition and he doesn't have to publicly make an ass out of himself (well, any more than normal for a GOP congressman) by having to capitulate all the time to the wackjobs in his own party (Uh... how many repeal ACA votes are we on now? 51? 52?)

This. I don't see Cantor running for President himself since he's Jewish. Seriously, I think it would be too big a liability with the religious base.
But Veep or Senator are quite feasible, and better long term prospects than Speaker.

While I don't think his Essential Jewishness would phase people as much as you think, Speaker is a dead-end for Presidency. You have to go all the way back to Polk I believe to see a Speaker that managed to win the white house. It's too much of a political liability when you have to be responsible for what amounts to a house full of retarded monkeys (and that's my putting my opinion of Congress delicately).

However, there have been many Representatives that have gone onto the Senate, and then made a decent run at the Whitehouse. McCain, Gore, Dole, Bush (the Elder - won). Cantor's biggest problem is also his best chance right now - there is no incumbent GOP senator in his state (both seats are controlled by Dem's).

The timing is basically all wrong for Cantor, either that or he doesn't think he can win a state wide race. If Boehner passes on the gavel and Cantor picks it up, then he's either not much of a student of history or is signalling that he's content to lead the GOP in the house for the rest of his career.

FTA: The 50-year-old Cantor of Virginia was ushered into leadership soon after winning his Richmond-area seat in 2000 and promptly became an integral player in the party hierarchy. He is a near lock for speaker if Boehner were to leave. He will continue serving as the loyal lieutenant as long as Boehner remains speaker.

So let it be with Bohner.

Eric Cantor's biatch face dot tumblr dot com (correct for the filter, and awaaaaaaay you go!).

And while there's no chance The Base rallies around the only Jew in the Congressional GOP (House + Senate, if memory serves), I would seriously rend some garments if, on some twisted planet, on some twisted day, our first Jewish president is that smarmy prick.

I meant leadership in the Title sense, not the actual ability to lead. They have a very strong track record to leading the nation to economic disparity.

Cantor just seems fairly stupid to me.  While I hate Boehner, there's part of me that thinks in a different time he'd have been an average Speaker...like a time when his caucus wasn't so filled with lunatics.

But Cantor?  He just seems like a dipshiat.  He sounds unintelligent, his behavior is almost cartoonish, and he seems destined to fail.  Starscream is basically the perfect analogy for this guy.

Cantor does seem like a dipshiat but keep in mind the Boehner is constantly breaking down and crying.  I think he might quite literally be the most sobbing US politician in history.
