We can wag our finger at Russia all we want, the reality is that there isn't a Goddamn thing we can do about it. If Putin decides to take all of Ukraine, we'll stand back and watch. Oh sure, there may be a few sternly-worded letters tossed around, but that's it. Maybe a few sanctions, but that won't last long once Russia shuts off the gas/oil pipelines and starts seizing assets from foreign corporations. We're not going to get into a shooting war with a nuclear power over a chunk of rock that nobody cares about.

That was a such a bizarre situation. China was upset with Russia that Russia wasn't sufficiently expansionist in resisting American capitalism, so they turned around and got in bed with the US themselves.

Actually that's the major disconnect between China's intentions and the US/Western world view of them. China is rising and their GDP will likely surpass the US however they don't want nor aspire for superpower status or become some sort of world policeman.
Traditionally they've always been isolationist and if you look back at their thousand yr history they were never the conquering kind. Their's is more about legacy and saving face.
The worse thing the West can do is assuming they want world domination and therefore treat them as such.
Take HK for example! Everyone in the West were all panic stricken about what the Chicoms would do to HK when the British hand her over and how they would break their promise, send tanks 'reeducate' the Hong Konites etc yet 15 yrs later HK is pretty much about the same as it was back then even though on paper they are China.

China took the Marxist derp to 11, no doubt. Lenin might have gone around hanging "kulaks" (aka the farmers that raised suspicion by producing too much) without realizing that it would trigger a race to be the least productive farmer in the USSR, but even Stalin at his worst never tried to enforce equality of results like Mao did.

/and then they resented the Soviets for not jumping off the cliff with them

Yeah but "coeds" are learning to like it, or get used to it at least. I'm not sure why, real women don't have prostates, and anyway straight men already had two perfectly acceptable orifices to choose from.

Besides I'm reminded of the seductive things some guys would murmur in juvie jail, such as "I want to get some shiat on my dick." Mind you if a guy wanted to be buttsexed he could shiat first or even do a shampoo bottle enema, and these shiatty-dick aspirants claimed to be straight but in my experience teenage girls weren't charmed by things like "I want to stick my pole in your hole," but then if we'd been smart we wouldn't have gotten locked up to begin with.1

So anyway, how would a college boy convince a college girl to (let him?) poke an enema nozzle up her butt and then try anal? Most porn aficianados regard that as two perversions anyway, and in the case of enemas it's usually the chick "nurse" who gives them to the dude "patient." (Enemas don't seem very sexy to me but then I'm weird.) Are there any college women who inform themselves about a sexual practice they might like to try, or do you always have to wine, dine and whine them into it? Women who weren't the college type were usually broken in by the football team and/or their fathers by the time they got to me, while "smart girls" usually maintained their high GPAs by ignoring the subject and keeping their knees soldered together since 6 grade at least.2

Anyway, as subby's headline hints it's Russia's that's been following the Chinese lead for many years: it was China that provided a model for Russia in Ukraine by "liberating" Tibet way back in '593, then China started pimping out its proletariat to the evil imperialists years before Gorbachev had dared utter the word "perestroika" in public. Which should point out that it's China that's the real long-term danger to US interests, and certainly it's China that must be destroyed (though sowing its paddies with salt afterward might be de trop).

Oh. Speaking of de trop, the most vocal members of the Neighborhood Association frowned loudly at my suggestion that getting junkies busted for shooting up in their cars on the street was just being mean to these pathetic cripples; they even suggested I leave the FB group, that I "wasn't helping." Furthermore they justified their pro-pig policy by claiming that it gave these wretches an opportunity to seek help for their problem(s), instead of what seems more likely to me, i.e. just embittering the junkies further into sedating themselves even harder when they got out and saddling them with a criminal record which will make it even harder for them get real jobs and become "normal" members of society.

Then too it's my contention that by shoving a spike into one's vein with the car's roof light on on a quiet residential street festooned with Crime Watch signs on a weeknight around 7pm one has thereby demonstrated one's unfixable stupidity, so you might as well just walk right up and shoot. However one person did Like my suggestion that we set up voluntary Euthanasia Centers where such people can get rid of themselves in one swell foop instead of putting us all through all that silly bullshiat first, so there might be at least some hope for at least somebody there yet.

But anyway. As the facts clearly show, China must be destroyed.

1 I actually turned myself in twice when I could have gone on the lam again too: all I'd have had to do was be a homeless runaway while being careful not to get arrested for loitering and resisting arrest for a few years till my 18th birthday, but somehow a few months in the poky seemed easier and more secure.

2 'Of course I washed my hands before trying to touch you there, what kind of slimy pervert do you think I am?!?'

3 I know, I know, technically Russia set the standard by "recruiting" the neighboring countries into the USSR before Mao lost his cherry, but since when has historical fact been a worthwhile ingredient of political rhetoric urging any practical policy, domestic or foreign?

P.S. Don't quote this whole damn wall of text, morons.

People love to trot this one out, that the existence of nuclear weapons somehow precludes conflict.

Russia and the U.S. are the original nuclear states. We did the legwork, we have the societal maturity that was required to create and manage (mostly) responsibly these stockpiles in the decades since their creation. We know perfectly well what ensues if either of us lights one off at the other.

If you think that Russia is going to go nuclear over a conflict in a third-party's territory, one that doesn't threaten the existence of the Russian state, then I don't think that you've been paying much attention to the world or see any real difference between the Russian Government and someone like al-Qaida. Russia knows that they're a nice, fixed target, and that they have everything to lose in a nuclear exchange. They aren't going there over farking Ukraine.

bobothemagnificent: grumpfuff: bobothemagnificent: China's other response: How's that U.S. debt we own doing?  Maybe we should collect on it?

They own 8% of our debt. Japan owns 7%, but I don't see you flipping shiat about that. There's a collection of small countries that combined own 13%. (numbers may not be exact, working from memory off another convo about this the other day)

Oh noes!!!!!

I'd explain to you why your scenario is unlikely, but if you're shiatting your pants at China owning some of our debt, well, it's not worth wasting my time.

rjakobi: Dammit, China.  You wanted to be a world power for years, now's your time to show everyone you can bully the big kids around.  Slap Putin's booty.  Go on.  SLAP IT!  Remind the poser about the dangers at his backdoor!

The Chinese see the US as their rival for world dominance so they will tend to not support US efforts. But really, they should remember who the biggest customer for their exports is. Without the US buying all of its consumer crap from China the Chinese would have no hope of becoming the world's leading power,
