The framing of the first shows a crowd on the street but the wide shot shows it's a very tight group on an otherwise normal street with no other protesters.

Jobless Recruits Get Minimum Wage 'To March Around and Sound Off

By Jennifer Levitz

Updated July 16, 2010 12:01 a.m. ET WASHINGTON- Billy Raye, a 51-year-old unemployed bike courier, is looking for work.  Fortunately for him, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Council of Carpenters is seeking paid demonstrators to march and chant in its current picket line outside the McPherson Building, an office complex here where the council says work is being done with nonunion labor.

While this picture does look ridiculous, the protest was 7k-50k big, depending on the source. So the end result isn't that far from what you can see here (Organiser says it was 100k people, Police say 7k, most journalists tend to say it was about 20-30k)."

From the BBC's livestream:

12:33:
Russia is planning an "annexation" of Crimea and other parts of Ukraine, Russian politician Leonid Gozman tells a meeting of centre-right EU politicians in Dublin, PA reports. "The majority of Russians support our aggression in Crimea, the majority of Russians are very happy that we are planning to bring an annexation of Crimea and other parts of Ukraine," Mr Gozman says.

Nice to know that politicians publicly undermining their governments' plans isn't an uniquely American problem.  Still, this is embarrassingly sloppy considering the story that Putin has been trying to sell.

I'm not saying there are no planted actors in the news (gods forbid. There were any single event in the history of humankind since invention of the press where there were no planted actors?), but this type of women is the most common type in that part of the world: blond, overweight, prematurely aged.

I'm sure they all look the same to you, and they are pretty similar; I'm sure you'll find 20 women looking like that in any crowd. But it's not the same woman.

*sigh* It's not "ushanka", because 1) "ushanka" is male only hat 2) it doesn't have "ushi" - ears, from which the name have evolved. It's just a fur hat of a very common type. But hey, it sounds russkie and evil, so go for it. :)

They are definitely very-very similar and quite possibly may be the same, but the image is of very low quality and I can't see the details.

Excuse me.  Since he was covering the Tet Offensive in that broadcast, could you point out the part where he covers that it was an attack by the heart of the North Vietnamese army designed to split the South Vietnamese and American forces.   And the part where he notes that despite being a surprise attack, we were able to completely annihilate their forces yielding what may have been the largest US military victory of the Vietnam War.

I missed those parts, but you clearly saw them and saw his explanation of why those were irrelevant compared with the political necessity for getting out.

Do you have a point or are you just another nutjob who thinks the Vietnam war was lost because of the media?

Is that what getting out was? A political necessity? How about it being a horrific stalemate that was causing needless suffering and death for millions of people? The war was an abomination that U.S. involvement made much worse and the longer we stayed, the more people died on both sides. Defeating the Tet offensive didn't change that.

For the record support for the war had been dropping well before Cronkite made his famous remarks.
