They picked 19 year old measurements. I wonder how 16 and 30 year old measurements would compare.

Dressy Bessy never had body dysmorphic disorder.  Now there was a doll that didn't give a fark, she would order extra pie and tell Barbie to go get stuffed.

the magazine said that flaunting Barbie's hyperbolic appearance was in fact not about confusing the space between children's toys and sexuality, but about honestly appraising one's self worth.

Pretentions means "overpretentious" on it's own.  All pretense is too much, implicitly.  You don't need an intensifier.

I agree the proportions look more normal, but did they have to make her like a head shorter? Are women not allowed to be tall?

Also He-man has more rediculous proportions than Barbie.

He-man figure if scaled to 6ft tall- 62"chest, 28" waist, and 26" biceps

Mr. Olympia era Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime- 57" chest, 34" waist, and 22" biceps

I'm sure her dad Klaus is proud.

Lammily is the forthcoming plastic doll whose motto is, "Average is beautiful."

Spoken like someone who hasn't been to a Walmart or flea market lately.

In what other area are we supposed to rush to praise the average? Why study Newton or Galois? Here's someone who needs a calculator to figure out the tip on a $20 restaurant bill. Why learn about Einstein? Here's a guy mixing ammonia and bleach. Forget Mozart, here's some Nickleback for you.

normal barbie is to scale. she's based on the average measurements of a typical, healthy, 19 year old female.

its not that she is short, but Barbie herself is tall..

of course, adjusted for reality, Barbie is tall and skinny like an inbred egyptian pharoh.

I went to a Winn Dixie in rural Florida last weekend.  My concept of what is possible has been drastically re-calibrated.  Also, it appears that Realtree camo has become a uniform that represents the wearer and an adherent to a particular lifestyle.

If normal is so awesome, why don't we make toys that really prepare kids for the adult world instead of giving them dreams and aspirations and fun...why not dolls such as:

Cubical Worker Barbie

General Accounts Clerk Ken

Wall-mart Greeter Wilma

Night Janitor James

You know, dolls that could have "real" bodies, sad looks on their faces and real jobs that stole their youth and sucked the joy out of their lives...

It's good to kill the dreams and wishes of children while they are young, less disappointing for them when they're older...

Damn, somebody better get to the Child Like Empress before the nothing swallows us all...

Stop pushing this fat agenda
You want us to think your flabby parts are normal?
they aren't

this sort of thing has been creeping up on us for years.

Women and men were not always this fat.
I remember what NORMAL is.
It is a healthy weight brought on by a good amount of exercise and a healthy diet.
Natural is staying healthy. Unnatural is overeating and being slothful, then lying about it by trying to hide your condition of sloth behind rhetoric like calling yourself "Curvy, Rubenesque, Lot-to-love, full figured, etc." on a dating site then rolling up on the poor unsuspecting fool with your half ton girth and sweaty cheesy overfed and puffing greatness and expecting to have him buy you a large dinner and dessert. Then acting all hurt because you were "fat shamed"
Well you ought to be ashamed. You ought to get off your asses and go out there and work the fark out. Get into shape. A trim, toned sexy shape. Then you don't' have to go on a dating site and hide behind a wall of words, and you can take your pick.

Stop this "natural " crap.
You're not
Your fat.

That is the most unique thing I've read today.

"Lammily" is kinda hot... and has a ridiculous terrible name.

But there was never anything wrong with Barbie or her proportions.  Girls and boys like playing with dolls ("AC-TION FIGURES").  We all know this particular one is nothing but a short-lived gimmick that will go into production, sell a few thousand, be featured on every morning show for 2 weeks, get rejected on "Shark Tank", and then disappear without a trace after 18 months.

And indelible little ink pens shaped like tattoo guns so you can mark them up with humiliatingly stupid "Tribal" tats. And dolphins. and what not.

She's still young, pretty, and blonde, just with a slightly dumpier body. It's one thing to present Barbie as an unobtainable measure of perfection, but saying this is average is just as stupid.

Couldn't all of this be solved if grown women would stop using a friggin toy as their basis for a body image?

Or, at the very least, how about they pick a different toy... Mrs. Potato Head would work better for most Americans.
