The vibe I got was
Tell me about Rust "
"Hey, I'd like to talk about all my recent characters."
"Yeah, but I didn't see any of those movies."

If this last episode doesn't feel like it pays off at 10PM Sunday, I'm punching things.

But I will say, if the ending pisses off the elitist band of Robert Chambers worshipers-come-lately, I will be equally happy if Sunday is just Rust and Marty playing Monopoly.

I'd be happier if Marty was banging some hot chick and Rusty was fingering Maggie while they all played Monopoly.

The Yellow King is an Asian Elvis impersonator. He pronounces Rust 'Lust' as in the deadly sin. Also, Marty Hart as 'Malty Halt' as in, "Stop looking for me you drunk f*ck."

Anyone else notice that the spaghetti faced guy has been referred to as a 'giant' and a 'tall' man but the lawnmower dude doesn't seem to be that tall.

I thought the scarred man was going to end up being Tuttle because of his height but seems he's dead.

Unless "Death is not the end" is actually going to have some meaning...

MurphyMurphy: wtf are you going on about?

More than a few people online have noticed that True Dectective often references "The King in Yellow", a collection of short stories by Robert Chambers written in the late 19th century.  Apparently his writing was influential to Lovecraft among others.

Certain things about the murder cult in the show like The Yellow King and Carcosa are referenced in the Chambers collection, apparently.  This has led to a lot of speculation about what's really going onfrom people looking for more connections from the Chambers work to the show.

Personally, I think the references are more of an Easter Egg put in there by the guy who made the show, I would guess that he's probably a fan of Robert Chambers or something.  It may have something to do with the group of killers at the end, it may not, but to treat True Detective like "Lost" is missing the point of the show.

True but they would be able to distinguish height as a comparison to the others around them. Ledoux was taller than the lawn mower guy by at least 6". A child would know this.

isn't the entire show about looking for connections? Like, it's two detectives trying to make sense of a bunch of crazy clues? But apparently if the fans do the same thing they're 'tards.  Too bad pocket ninja isn't here to tell us how much smarter he is than us.

True enough, but I'm not talking about trying to figure things out in the classic whodunit sense.  I saw someone on Fark make the connection between the Spaghetti Monster and the lawnmower dude a couple weeks ago which turned out to be right.  I was just agreeing with the previous post which was complaining about the overanalyzing of the Robert Chambers book.

Exactly,
that's what I was "wtf"ing about.

The whole show likes to put obscure little clues here and there. It's not just a show about detectives, you're playing one while you watch.

But whatever you do, don't read up on the source material the writer has gone so far as to hold your hand and lead you towards! Never mind Yellow King and Carcosa have been hammered into your heads as a clue to something...

Because if you do, people on the internet that watch the show for bewbs will say something about monopoly. (because fark books and reading, amirite?)

"so I told that True Detective fan 'the only letters I needed to investimagate are U, S and A' "

Funny, they put the Yellow King in the hospital where Marty was confronting Maggie when Rust, who has no earthly business being there, shows up to drag him off to the projects.
But they forgot the scene at the restaurant and the scene in Marty's kitchen, 2 other places Rust has no business being.
