They also want my phone number to create an account, so that pretty much ends any interaction I'll be having with Yahoo.

I'm not happy with google+ hijacking my youtube account.  At least I had SOME anonymity. Also lately Google + seems to be automatically logging me, even after logging out.

That's mighty uppity of them.
I'd just use one of my old numbers, that way they can cleverly check and it will check out, but not be functional or valuable as data.

You might have a point. The comments section of any Yahoo link I've ever visited are just epic walls of derp that just sap my will to live.

Wouldn't work.  They want your number so they can send you a code over SMS that you have to provide to activate the account.
