It's a well known fact, that rich white people will stick to their own kind.

Russia climate suits the GOP. Religion entrenched in law, gays, atheist and dissident crushed and unfettered and unregulated capitalism.

Plus a neoconservative military diplomacy ideology in full swing.

Sarah who?

2014-03-05 01:44:20 AM
Someone answer me this, because I'm too young to remember specifics --

Did we (the US) have armed forces in a continuous conflict or "peace keeping" phase at any point during Reagan's presidency?  I'm reasonably certain that between Bush 1 and now, we've had continuous forces at conflict in the middle east, but all I remember from the Reagan era was dropping bombs on Libya and somewhere in South America (Panama?).  It seems weird that, if that's the case, the one guy that everyone assumed was going to start WW3 may have been the least aggressive of our leaders since I've been alive ...  (not counting Carter, he wasn't aggressive at all, but his hands were tied by other's actions, and I was only 4 when Carter left office, so I can't really speak too much about that)

2014-03-05 01:48:49 AM
Well, she did have Putin for company up in Alaska for how long, just peering over at her. His hot Russian gaze, steaming over her as she looked out her window, wondering if he was thinking about her, her land, her country, and quietly dying a little inside each day that she didn't get a call.

Now she's wishing that the President could fill that void left by the only man that she's ever truly felt deep in her heart, besides Jesus.

It's an old story, but one for the ages...

The least aggressive leader? I don't think so. There is the contra war in Nicaragua for starters (bonus: financed through shady weapons deals with *drumroll* Iran). Then there was the invasion of Grenada in 1983.

Conservatives are like toddlers when it comes to international events. They are convinced everything that happens in the world revolves around the US, and these other countries have no issues or agenda of their own.

Putin would have acted the same if Teddy Roosevelt bc this whole thing is directly related to Russia maintaining their political and economic power. Putin is not going to let anything get in the way of returning Russia to superpower status.

My dog (Bronc O'bama) thinks our President is the best!

As for the President's "potency", my dog (Bronc O'bama) doesn't have an opinion on the man's penis, because that's the only thing I think she's talking about.

Also, its cute that Sarah is gloating about her "prediction" of Russia invading Ukraine. I'm sure she had a lot of time as Governor of Alaska to delve deeply into the history of Russia's relations with its former republics and wasn't simply fed talking points to regurgitate by her handlers.

Bronc O'bama approves this message.

I'm curious how this round of idiocy will meld into the national consciousness.  If this situation diffuses, will the critical independent vote remember Obama as a weak leader, or a President that didn't march us mindlessly into WWIII?  When the Democratic nominee for President in 2016 isn't a ni*bong*, will people remember the "patriotism" of the right during this time?  I have no expectation that the importance of individual events will be remembered, but overall, what have the Republicans done as a positive that they can draw on in 2016?  What the fark are they going to do when they're stuck with the same weak pundit-based leadership, and can no longer just blow dog whistles?

Danger Mouse: monoski: Danger Mouse: he's currently in the news because she was heavily ridiculed in the 2008 elections for her foreign policy experience and made the prediction that Putin would eventually invade the Ukraine.

Initially, I read this and was going to ask for a citation as it sounded like revisionist GOP history but Googled it and it is true, she did say this in 2008. She also said she could see Moscow from AK so she only gets half a point in my book.

Glad to hear that you are looking things up for yourself, rather than taking FARKs echo chambers taking points as gospel.

Oh, Palin never said "I can see Moscow/Russia from my house"  That was TV comedian Tina Fey. No worries, many farkers confuse comedians and actors for real politicans or news sources (see Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert).

Does it bother you at all that this woman actually believes Russian propaganda?

Skleenar: "Look, the perception of Obama, of him and his potency across the world is one of such weakness," Palin told Fox News' Sean Hannity. "People are looking at Putin as one who wrestles bears and drills for oil. They look at our president as one who wears mom jeans and equivocates and bloviates."

This is such a paean to the virtue of propaganda, it is only fitting it was said on the US's own propaganda network.

October 23rd, 1983. Ronald Reagan was President of the United States.
What stood out then, particularly on television, was the toll of 241 dead at Marine BLT Barracks at Beirut Airport. Yet on the 30th Anniversary last week, in 2013, nothing appeared on television to commemorate those losses. Not a word on network news or the commentary shows.
These were revenge killings; for Muslims, the term "retaliation" is more appropriate. In all, four truck bombs killed 398 people to take revenge for months of Ronald Reagan using the offshore guns of the U.S. Navy to shell Lebanese villages. Those bombardments killed more than a thousand people, slaughtering Druze and Muslims indiscriminately. The technology for the bombs was provided by Iran. There, for the Iran-Iraq War, Reagan had reversed Jimmy Carter's Executive Order and taken to supplying material support for Saddam Hussein. This despite Saddam's use of nerve gas to kill tens of thousands of Iranians, including civilians.

"Teach them a lesson" from Reagan in the Oval Office had produced unanticipated consequences.

Yeah, no, I mean I get the joke, but seriously, that can't be the actual reason. There's usually  some internal consistency to Republicans, even if it's just 'JEEBUS' or 'OBAMA BAD'. Bush never (or very, very rarely) rode horses. Mexican President Vicente Fox said that Bush was afraid of them. He called Bush a "windshield cowboy."

Vicente Fox, the former president of Mexico, derided his political friend as a "windshield cowboy" - a cowboy who prefers to drive - and "the cockiest guy I have ever met in my life".

2014-03-05 01:37:49 PM

Mentat: ekdikeo4: Someone answer me this, because I'm too young to remember specifics --

We were keeping peace all over the place.  Except for Beirut.  Those motherfarkers in Grenada learned a harsh lesson after that incident.

Well, technically, we're sort of "peace keeping" in Germany, Japan, Korea, as well, but those have been pretty much dead conflicts for the last 50+ years.

OK, I seem to vaguely recall some thing about Grenada, I'll dig up info on that.  Still, it seems like we've been in continuous direct conflict since Gulf War 1, whereas I don't recall that being the case prior.

Well Obama thought differently when debating Romeny.

Gov. Romney, I'm glad that you recognize that al-Qaida is a threat, because a few months ago when you were asked what's the biggest geopolitical threat facing America, you said Russia, not al-Qaida. You said Russia ... the 1980s, they're now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because, you know, the Cold War's been over for 20 years,"

It's refreshing  to find so many Farkers in agreement with Palin and Romney.

Danger Mouse: ArcadianRefugee: Danger Mouse: ArcadianRefugee: monoski: Danger Mouse: he's currently in the news because she was heavily ridiculed in the 2008 elections for her foreign policy experience and made the prediction that Putin would eventually invade the Ukraine.

Initially, I read this and was going to ask for a citation as it sounded like revisionist GOP history but Googled it and it is true, she did say this in 2008.

Which would be amazing if I hadn't had friends who'd made the same prediction since the early 2000's.

Of course, they've been expecting it to happen for even longer, but figured the time was fast approaching once we hit the 2000's.

That's nice.

...and what does a years-old debate topic have to do with Sarah Palin and her current comments?

"Not the biggest geo-political threat" =/= "Not a threat".

It's refreshing to find so many Farkers in agreement with Palin and Romney.

Isn't it? Especially when it's agreeing with something completely unrelated to the thread: this one is about her comments that Obama is unmanly because he wears a particular style of jeans and Putin is manly bnecause he "wrestles bears" -- because THAT doesn't sound gay AT ALL.

But congratulations on winning an argument no one was having.

Um you know that Putan doesn't actually wrestle bears, right? That her comment was a metaphor for thier leadership? That we've been discussing leadership styles, the riducule Palin saw when she commented on Russia, and frussian  policy.  Yep, I threw Romeny in their for extra credit, but your response suggests to me that you haven't been paying attention, or really don't even know what you are talking about.

Why do you always make it about being gay? what's that got to do with this?

Yes.

Mostly because, while Sara Palin didn't actually say, "I can see Moscow from here" (quote and unquote), that quote does pretty much sum up the response Palin herself gave as to her Russian foreign-policy experience:
Charles Gibson: "What insight into Russian actions particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of this state give you?"
Sara Palin: "They're our next door neighbors. And you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."
~11 September 2008 appearance on ABC News, Palin's first major interview after being tapped as the vice-presidential nominee

Danger Mouse: Yep, I threw Romeny in their for extra credit, but your response suggests to me that you haven't been paying attention, or really don't even know what you are talking about.

Maybe it should suggest to you that I have no idea what you are talking about. You'll really have to be more specific for me to make observations.

Unless you meant my pointing out that Obama said that Russia wasn't the biggest threat, as opposed to no threat (which seemed to be what you were driving at), which, yes, somehow shows that clearly that I have no idea what I am talking about.

Danger Mouse: Why do you always make it about being gay? what's that got to do with this?

I "always make it about being gay"? o_O

That said, it was a joke.

Wait, lemme try it like this:

Um you know that "bear" is a slang term for "a large, hairy man who projects an image of rugged masculinity", right? And that "wrestling bears" could thus be perceived (albeit childishly) as a euphemism for one's sexual predilections? And that the bear "image" is frequently exaggerated for image's sake? Kind of like Putin and all those photo-ops of him being "manly"?

Of course you did.

Danger Mouse: How does one go from stating that Putin is a leader to be taken seriously to "Putin Love" or "shillin for Putan"?

Are you saying Putin is a leader?

Al Qaida is a bigger geopolitical threat to America than Russia.  There are geopolitical challenges that involve Russia and China and Iran and North Korea, but Russia is not an imminent threat like it was during the Cold War.  It was the attempt at channeling the Gipper by McCain and Romney that had people's eyes rolling.
