Danger Mouse: What is your complaint again? That douchebags like this soil your good party name?

Yup.

Well then you needn't complain.

Everyone already knows that your party is the party of bigotry, sexism and racism.  Whether it's this guy (who you've never heard of) saying so or whether it's Sarah Palin (who you never heard of and/or never liked) insisting America is a Christian nation or whether it's Arizona GOP (who you've never heard of) penning anti-gay legislation or whether it's Rush Limbaugh (who you've never heard of) insisting that 12 Years a Slave only won because the world is biased against white men or whether it's Michelle Bachmann (who you have never heard of) insisting that Hillary Clinton's not-white associate must be a terrorist or whether it's any number of GOP elected officials and candidates (who i'm sure you have never heard of) discussing rape from within their insulated bubbles....

I can keep going if you like.  The point is that this bigot (who you never heard of) isn't soiling your good party name.  The bigots who make up the majority of your party are what is spoiling your good party name.

Choice A: dilute the party's hard-line stance against gays, immigrants, the poor, and other sacred cows
---Pro: less alienation of independents, less chance of derp-storm candidates like that "shut the whole thing down" guy
---Con: they alienate their own base of voters and become a diet version of the Democratic party

Choice B: stick to their guns
---Pro: they get to feel good, keep their base, and hey... guns!
---Con: they get bred out of relevance, increased chance of more derp-storm candidates

Derbyshire, who lost his job with the National Review after publishing a "nasty and indefensible" 2012 column about his racial prejudices

Derbyshire had been publishing nasty and indefensible columns about race for years before the National Review fired him. The idea that they didn't know that he was a white nationalist is complete bullsh*t. They didn't fire him for that; they hired him for that. They fired him because one of his articles by chance garnered mainstream outrage and damaged their brand. It didn't have anything to do with the fact that he's a racist.

I wish the "Conservative movement" would abandon the word "conservative".  It doesn't actually describe their politics in any way and it describes mine pretty well, so I would like it back as soon as possible, please.

// There certainly are anti-white and anti-male people in the left wing of US politics, and they're certainly assholes... but the difference between the "left" and the "right" is that the left's racist assholes have a corner to sit in and mumble to themselves, and the right's racist assholes have complete control over the policy positions of a major political party.  One of these things is a bit worse than the other.

He's actually talking about lack of respect for people who were born on third base and think they hit a triple - who, mostly, in America, happen to be white males. But implying that it's somehow ethnocentric in nature sounds better from his perspective.

I think that you're seeing that many of the villains of the right are white males, and they are all targets of leftist ire. So it's easy to think the left dislikes white men.

But just look at the previous presidential candidates from the left - John Kerry, Al Gore, Ralph Nader, Bill Clinton, Michael Dukakis, etc... You should see that the left harbors no racism against whites nor sexism against males.

You know, as a liberal, I came here to point out that he wasn't a mainstream conservative, and that he really didn't represent the bulk of the conservative viewpoint.

But since you decided to get al ad-hominum on liberals, how about this instead:

This is the sort of people you have voting along side you, supporting the same policies you do. Don't you feel dirty now? Why hasn't your party loudly denounced these idiots and said "there is no room for racism in our party", but instead constantly makes noises about welfare mothers and minorities who take and take but never give back. Just because you aren't naming brown people explicitly doesn't me you are fooling anyone.
