You do realize that California is a rather large state?

You really need money to get your certificate, much less own a plane. Single, it's not so bad if you have an ok job. You have kids? Hard to do. And getting to a fast plane is expensive, our Mooney Acclaim cost better than $350k used, if i hadn't found other pilots wanting one no way I could've justified buying. Even the doc with the Piper Malibu has partners.

I'd really like an a Epic Eclipse LT, but that f#cker costs $2 million.

Still avoid flying commercial when I can...

Really?  Flying business or first class in a new commercial aircraft is cheaper, more comfortable and faster than flying yourself around in a Cessna or Piper.  You fly because you love to fly, not because you're trying to avoid "dealing with" a commercial flight.

Faster than a Cessna Citation X ? A 172 or 182 most certainly, but not an X

You're right. I do enjoy flying. I also enjoy not having to deal with other folks, being able to go on my time for the most part. Sure it may be a pain having to make a flight path and file, but it's all part of the fun.

Of course, I haven't flown a plane since the 172's in college, but would love to get my license.

And if I was retiring as Apple CFO, I wouldn't be flying around in a 172, nor would the cost involved be an issue.

Truth.  I also wish I had enough money to never worry about working ever again.
