Because two transport ships will tilt the balance of power away from Ukraine?

Not sure what the terms of the contract were, but it seems unlikely France would have solid grounds to cancel it based on what's happened so far.

Are we supposed to be upset at this because we gave weapons to both Saddam and the Taliban?

The US is the largest weapons exporter. Which moral ground are we standing on exactly?

They're French made.  They disable themselves in the presence of the enemy.

If Ukraine is smarty, they will concentrate on the balance of power in sniper rifles, large artillery shells with cell phones attached and shoulder-fired missiles.

I love when the US gets outraged that other countries are doing what it regularly does.  Even the Ukraine situation - Russia is essentially doing exactly what the Bush administration did in Iraq - invading a country based on false pretenses contrary to international law.

I'm not say that what Russia is doing is ok.  I'm saying what the Bush administration did was not ok.

Actually it seems to be a great big non issue. In fact. How many deaths have occurred in the last couple days?  Compare those deaths to before. If we just keep this going it'll all blow over. Maybe.

I'm so utterly sick of being the worlds policeman. It's always been balanced on the backs of Americas middle class.
I'm reading Europe is resisting sanctions against Russia at this moment.  It's time to take ten years off and focus on our own issues.

The link is dorked,  but I'm guessing they are referring to the Mistrals....

France isn't going to not sell the ships to Russia.   They have a contract.   They need the money.
Just like Europe isn't going to turn away Russia's oil.

It's just business.   And it's good business when it's military equipment $ales.

The Muthaship: Chummer45: I'm saying what the Bush administration did was not ok.

Kerry thought it was.

Kerry and the rest of Congress voted to let Bush handle the Iraq situation, up to and including force. They didn't say "Please invade Iraq, W, and be sure not to have a post-invasion plan before you do it!" Also, the Iraq invasion didn't violate international law. It was stupid, and the main pretext given for it was false, but there were LOTS of legal reasons to depose Saddam Hussein by force; he'd been violating post-Gulf-War sanctions for more than a decade. That's why the "coalition of the willing" was as large as it was, and why the U.N. didn't vote to impose sanctions on the U.S.

NO other country thinks what Russia is doing is OK. Most Russians are opposed to it, for that matter. Kerry has complete moral authority to criticize Putin.

A better parallel would be George H.W.'s invasion of Panama. That was raw jingoism.

That's because "the news" is populated by mouthbreathing, helmet-haired idiots. The name of the country has been "Ukraine" for more than 20 years. "The Ukraine" is the region of the former Russian Empire (and the Soviet Union) in which the country is located.

No surprise. France, UKs NATO ally was still discussing new military deals with Argentina during the fawklands war.

Britain had to sink some French ships during WWII because the captains were heading back to nazi controlled areas to turn them over.

France has a history of stabbing her allies in the back.

Technically Panama declared war on the US Dec15 due the sorta support we gave Giroldi in his failed coup, the US didn't invade till Dec18

Grenada is the one that basically matches what's happening here.
