For the sake of all that is worthwhile in mankind, can we pretend this thread doesn't exist... seriously..

The "leg to stand on" joke was decrepit a year ago... are we still flogging that carcass?

Thanks, OBAMA!

Another witness, Johnson's wife, Michelle Burger, again insisted that she heard the screams of a woman, rather than an anguished man, on the night of Steenkamp's death.

The guy sounds guilty, but this sort of testimony is so unreliable that it shouldn't be allowed.

• Burger rejected defence claims that the loud noises she heard coming from Pistorius's house were the sound of him using a cricket bat to smash down the door of the bathroom. She said she heard four loud gunshots, and that the intervals between each were too short for the noises to have been a bat swung against a wooden door.

On saturday there was a shooting right outside my window.  Later in the day at a bar me and three other people who heard it couldn't agree on how many shots were fired FWIW

That guy is guilty as fark.  Seriously, who shoots at what they can't even see?  I know you can count on a few mid-western deer hunters every year for that, but if your girlfriend is not in bed with you WTF?  I'd just sit down and wait outside the bathroom door..   After I called the cops.  If whatever it was in the bathroom came out before they got there, then I could see what I was dealing with and go from there.  His explanation is pure BS.

You're supposed to shoot her; just don't use a firearm.

I don't know what to think about this story. IF he is innocent, and really telling he truth, to me it's believable that a very fit and large man hitting a wooden door as loud as he could with a cricket bat could be as loud as a gunshot.

It's just bizarre to me that a man would call for help loudly enough that neighbors could hear it if he had just murdered his girlfriend. That's the only thing that's making me question his guilt. That's not normal behavior of a murderer.

IDK. This is all really sad. What makes me think he's guilty is that they heard arguing, and he's saying they didn't argue.

Is this the place where I write "who?" to make sure a bunch of strangers know that I am not only out of touch, but also unfamiliar with the concept of google?

Just checking.

Look, I can understand a situation where a spouse ends up killing the other one.

But you can just dump a girlfriend. Especially if you're an Olympic athlete and she's just some fairly attractive skank.

I have nothing of value to offer, other than the fact that they both seem like douchebags from what little bit I know.

Because it went "Full O.J." with its own TV channel and all.  I read that yesterday here.  Also, it was obviously a murder and NOT "mistaken identity".

We are a hour into this thread and barley thirty comments posted. Half of which are who? Plus multiple people wondering why this is a thread. I think that pretty much proves my point.

Keep in mind, this is his version of events:
He and his live in girlfriend were asleep in their bedroom.  The bedroom has three doors; one to the hallway, one to the windowless bathroom, one to a walk in closet.  He hears noises in the middle of the night, notices the light on in the bathroom w/ the door closed.

So he immediately gets a pistol and starts shooting through the door.

Really?  Because he disagrees with you:

"During the early hours of the morning I brought two fans in from the balcony," Mr Pistorius said in his statement. Continue reading the main story     "Start Quote      Just after her screams, I heard four shots. Four gunshots. Bang, bang, bang, bang."  Michelle Burger Witness  "I had shortly before spoken to Reeva who was in bed beside me.  "Unbeknown to me, Reeva must have gone to the toilet in the bathroom at the time I brought in the fans, closed the sliding doors and drew the blinds and the curtains.  "I heard the bathroom window sliding open, I believed that an intruder or intruders had entered the bathroom through the bathroom window which was not fitted with burglar bars.  "I approached the bathroom armed with my firearm, so as to defend Reeva and I . At that time I believed Reeva was still in the bed.  "The discharging of my firearm was precipitated by a noise in the toilet which I, in my fearful state, knowing I was on my stumps, unable to run away or properly defend my self physically believed to be the intruder or intruders coming out of the toilet to attack Reeva and me.  "I respectfully believe the state has no basis for alleging that I wanted to take Reeva's life."

Oh, correction from earlier summary:  There's a small window on the top of the wall in the bathroom.

You don't need to prove a motive, but personally if I were a juror I'd have a hard time convicting someone if I couldn't understand why they might have done what they did. Unless he's a violent psychopath, but he probably would have killed somebody before now if he was.

I'm gonna call it like this.

He's guilty.  There is no way he thought there was an intruder in the bathroom.

However, somehow, someway, because of all the nonsense surrounding the case, he will almost certainly be found only "slightly" guilty, or something.  He will not get full acquittal, but he won't get of scott free either.

You'd be a juror I'd want if I was on trial for something I did.  Could you understand why Dahmer ate people.  Some people are just messed up.  A little google-fu showed that he OP has some previous incidents involving domestic violence with women.

Onkel Buck: Snort: Guilty.  Because she was hot and there are not enough hot women in the world.

If you want to get away with murder, ugly and ethnic is the way to go.

That reminds of a line from a movie where this old timer tells this kid to marry an ugly woman because if she leaves you no one will care.

A pretty woman makes her husband look small,
And very often causes his downfall.
As soon as he marries her, then she starts,
To do the things that will break his heart.

But if you make an ugly woman your wife,
You'll be happy for the rest of your life.
An ugly woman cooks meals all the time,
She'll always give you peace of mind.

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life,
Never make a pretty woman your wife.
So from my personal point of view,
Get an ugly girl to marry you.

Please believe me when I say that there is no offense intended when I say that that's an extremely naive statement.  Imagine an attorney using that as a defense: "Your honour, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, my client has never killed anyone before, why on Earth would they start now?"  Sadly, murders borne out of moments of passion happen all the time, and the first time anybody commits one, by definition they've never done it before.

If you are ever selected for jury duty, I suggest you say exactly what you just posted -- you'll be home in time for dinner.  :)

Because his pride was hurt when she told him she f'ed his friend and she didn't want to be with him anymore because he has a hard time 'getting up.'

I mean really, just use your imagination. You're dealing with someone who has had a chip on his shoulder his entire life, and was apparently, my most accounts, an asshole.

Hell, a old man shot a guy in a movie theater over being hit by popcorn and THIS surprises you?

My mind couldn't handle being a juror on a murder trial unless it was the most totally obvious of cases that should never have even brought to trial, and the defendant took the stand. I'm fairly certain that doubt would nag at me for the rest of my life, regardless of the outcome.

Before the shooting he had a girlfriend that knew about his addiction to pain killers, his use of performance enhancing drugs, his tiny baby penis, his sick kiddie porn collection, and his extreme anal fisting fetish. After the shooting he no longer had that.
