Forget Betty and Veronica, Big Ethel is the one you want to go after.

See, Big Ethel is that gawky chick who eventually became fairly hot, but still thinks of herself as ugly. Veronica is too rich to take it in the butt, and Betty is too proper. But Big Ethel? She'd rock your world AND make you a cheeseburger afterward, because she spent so much time learning how to cook them while chasing Jughead (who was more interested in Mr. Weatherbee).

I hollered, "Don't look, Ethel!" But it was too late. She'd already been mooned.

I mean, she's not ugly. But, she's just so plain, and she tries WAY to damn hard, it just makes me go "eugh!"
Plus she has mournful titties*.

Girls isn't funny.  This is from a straight guy who thought Sex in the City was hysterical.  Girls just isn't funny.

Lena Dunham is way over exposed for the amount of talent she actually possesses, both as a writer and an actress.

Afterlife with Archie is surprisingly entertaining. If his take on Sabrina the Teenage Witch is nearly as good, well...

What kills me is that it isn't very insightful either. Granted, 20+ years of working in college town bars has given me perhaps a bit more exposure to that demographic then most, but I saw nothing on that show that I haven't seen/heard regurgitated endlessly by succeeding generations of artistically inclined self absorbed mid 20's young ladies.

I'm only asking cause you did watch sex in the city

She's an alright actor and a solidly below average writer (for the network she's writing on, anyhow).  When I think of her success, I find myself wondering if she actually is a voice of a sub-generation of women that's neurotic, vain and emotionally broken.  If there's some value to Girls, it makes me really think about how I'm going to support my daughter (who's only 4 right now) as she grows up.  I want her to end up as an emotionally healthy, fully functional woman who tries to get the best out of life as opposed to drowning in self created drama.

I actually watched about half an episode of Girls (couldn't sleep, nothing on - don't judge me!)...and either they have the worst writers in the world, or good writers writing about a group of completely psychotic women.  The mood swings, and complete character shifts from one minute to the next just made no sense whatsoever.

"This is so much fun...God, you're a biatch, I've never liked you!...want to go have a drink?" all in the span of 4 minutes.  WTH?

I really hope that young city-dwelling women are not really like this.  If so, i weep for young city-dwelling men.

Perhaps she could write a sequel to "The Room".  Can she throw a football?

But Sex and the City was terrible -- it was never funny at all, and was so hackneyed, slow paced, and overbroad as to be simply embarrassing for all concerned.  (I saw a few episodes.)  It seemed something like a really bad Nickelodeon show.  And I happen to like SJP.

You mean to say this Girls thing is actually worse, AND has an unattractive naked lead?  Urck.

I wasn't a huge fan, but to say it was never funny is wrong.  It's funnier if you stumble across it on TBS (or whatever cable channel), because much of the discussion doesn't work in a non-HBO environment.  A few weeks ago I walked in on my wife watching it and there was a conversation about tossing salad that was laugh out loud funny.

//Don't understand the point of Girls.  It's not funny, it's not very dramatic, it just is...with mournful tits no less.

Once you get past the novelty of it using Archie characters, it really is a great horror comic. I hope they can keep it up.
I'm slowly getting back into comics after a long time away, and I gotta say that what Archie's doing interests me a hell of a lot more now than anything the Big Two are putting out. Never, ever thought I would say that, but it's the truth.

Holy shiat, that show is a COMEDY?   Well fark me sideways

But Since I do like bigger girls, I have to admit Lena Dunham is in the "would hit it " category for me,  mostly because she's kinda a dead ringer for at least one in  the "have hit it" category and it brings back fond memories.

/fella, you will never believe me but the wrapper is the LEAST important thing about a candy bar

True, but the candy bar shouldn't be mournful.

Another comic book link? Why not just have a wrestling tab, an echo-chamber MSNBC tab, and a comic book tab, and call it a day?

I think it's just that you're not part of their target demographic.  It's like expecting a 55 year old white dude from North Dakota to get into Kanye West.  That dude isn't SUPPOSED to like Kanye.  It would be weird, even disturbing, if he did.  Whenever I see one of these niche programs, I watch a little to see what the buzz is all about and then switch back to reruns of shows that are targeted at people like me.  It's good to know what other folks think is funny or entertaining and maybe give some thought about WHY they think it's funny and/or entertaining.  But I can't imagine anybody on the writing crew of Girls is asking themselves "well, huh. what can we do to make this funny for fat old farts who would rather watch reruns of America's Funniest Home Videos?"

Wait, it just says Archie Comics. It might be for the Sonic the Hedgehog comic. And Sally was actually pretty much naked until the reboot, but still...
