The only thing I can think to contribute to this discussion is that the article is very poorly written, and should have touched on what help the woman received in addition to the animals.

She agreed to give up the animals to keep them alive and well, and there's no mention if any veteran's associations were contacted to see if they could help her in any way.

Crappy article is crappy.

/glad the animals will be safe at least, hope the lady gets some help as well.

What a horrible human being.  Oh wait.. she probably had existing mental issues (possibly related to her service), and lost her home where she was sort of managing with all her furry friends.  Rahter than surrender them to possibly be gassed at the city "shelter" she just tried her best to keep them with her.  There but for the grace of sheer circumstance go I.
