I guess "nobody" isn't on the table.

They'd probably think it was a good idea and move to the right of your position.

Well now you're just being silly. Everyone knows the whole point of owning a business is to enforce your personal code of morality.

"And the one thing I referenced when I say 'self-professed,' how do you know who to discriminate against?" he said. "They about have to tell you. And are they then setting up a case, is this about bringing a grievance or is it actually about a service that they'd like to have?"

Wait, is he talking about discriminating against Christians? Cuz that could also apply.

WHO asked King if his use of the term "self-professed" meant that he believed being gay was a choice. The Iowa Republican responded that he was unsure.

Why does no one every ask these guys "So then are you often attracted to men but decide not to do anything about it?"

Ok...what if a "gay bar" had a bunch of idiot KKK members, Hell's Angels etc come in there place of
business.  Would be ok if the owner of the bar kicked them out because he doesn't like them?
What's the difference?
Personally, I don't think it is the governments business whom a PRIVATE business does or does
not do business with.

I've tried to get my brain around the reasoning for this latest round of legislative twaddle. I will admit to not reading the bills, but do the authors actually think this won't backfire in ways they haven't thought all the way through?

Am I supposed to be able to claim discrimination because a Jewish bakery closes for a week during Passover? Are they supposed to be able to throw me out because I am not Jewish?

How far does this go before they realize, "oopsie?"

Somebody link to the Tom Lehrer song, "National Brotherhood Week."

You cannot be a "private business" if you do business with the public.

You can refuse service, but only within certain parameters. Speculations about who diddles their winky isn't a qualifier.

King said LGBT individuals are trying to "perfect special rights for self-professed behavior." He added that their rights aren't covered under equal protection because sexual orientation can be "willfully changed" and cannot be "independently verified."

Even ignoring the stupidity of the whole "homosexuality is a choice," I'm curious why he thinks religion qualifies for protection against discrimination and homosexuality does not.

demaL-demaL-yeH: ". . . how do you know who to discriminate against?" he said.

I think the real question is: "Why do you need to discriminate against anyone?"

I wonder if that's part of a business's start-up plan. "Okay, we're going be fixing cars, so we'll need a garage with tools and maybe one of those car lifting things. We'll prob'ly need an office to write bills and get money and stuff and maybe a place for customers to sit while we change their oil. Anything else? Yes, Roger? Oh right, I forgot . . . who should we plan on discriminating against. We're in Iowa so we'll need to chose carefully."

No, he believes that religion should be a legal justification for business owners who provide public accommodations to discriminate against groups of people.

Doublethink, how does it work?

Why would gays not get the exact same protections under the law that straight people enjoy?

I don't know. Why wouldn't they? Everybody had the same rights (the right to freedom of association) before the Anti-Civil Rights Act of 1964, yet everybody was whining about equal rights.

There are bills out there that explicitly say that one can refuse service because if it offends their religion. This enables someone to refuse service to anyone who is gay. There are also bills out there that disallow lawsuits because someone discriminated against them.

I ask you again, why would straight folks get protection under the law that gay folks would not?

WTF did I just read?  This man is insane.

Speaking as a white man, we all know that white privilege does exist in some ways, to one extent or another, so why doesn't EVERYONE choose to be white?  And they say it's a man's world, so I'm sure glad I chose to be a male.  Why did all those women, especially in ones where women are suppressed and subservient, choose to be women?  That sure was a dumb choice on their part!

Snark aside, my wife is bi-sexual, and has previously been in serious, comitted relationships with other women.  She has told me that there's been many times in her life when she wished she was straight, because why would anyone choose to be the target of bigotry?  We live in Kansas, so that probably says a lot right there.  One of the last relationships she was in before me was with another woman, and she said they'd be walking down the sidewalk merely holding hands, and complete strangers would come up to them to call them names or to tell them they're going to hell.  I'm glad times are changing, but people like Steve King are not disappearing fast enough for my tastes.

Funny, you complain that you think the Right couldn't handle having the tables turned, all while the left is showing their own hypocrisy.

So, let's turn this back around.  A gay activist denied service to someone who disagrees with their lifestyle (and some no doubt take no issue with this).  Does this mean that they would back up a business denying services to gays because of their views?

/Clearly, the answer is obvious.
//And the hypocrisy is galling.
///Quite frankly, I believe that anyone should be able to deny service to anyone else as they see fit.
////But whining about someone else doing it, then doing it yourself, does not serve your cause.
//And I know he is supposed to be "making a point".
//The only point I got is that this activist is a first class douchebag.

How many feet was this motherfarker born with? He's got them all in his mouth simultaneously here, I'm guessing at least 6 or 7...

I particularly like how he claimed that sexual orientation is "self professed" and can be 'changed at will' and then went on to explain how someone's "self professed" religious beliefs that can be 'changed at will' are enshrined in the "Declaration".
