hammettman: mikalmd: So the 1st shot missed when he had a lot of time to  aim and then 2 quick shots for the kill...Makes a lot of sense to me...

Yes, the first shot kicked up debris, which gave Oswald a visual from which to correct for his next shots.

Also, something called adrenalin kicked in.

Also, I used to be a conspiracy buff in my youth.  Then I visited a relative's farm and saw what a Marine marksman could do with a bolt action rifle.  JFK was a sitting duck.

Also, remember that the fatal shot was fired when Kennedy was no more than 88 yards from the book depository.   He was moving almost directly away from Oswald, which is the easiest kind of moving target to hit.

Given some time and ammo to sight in the rifle, I could do that with open sights with pretty much any rifle that is decent enough to shoot 6 to 8 MOA*.  In fact, given just a day or so, I could train someone who never touched a rifle before to do the same thing.

*Minute Of Angle, roughly 1" at 100 yards, so a 6 MOA rifle will put all the rounds in a 6" circle at 100 yards, which is pretty damned mediocre.

The more I learn about it, the more I understand why we have so many conspiracy theories. They effed up several parts of the investigation. They hid some mistakes. They put a lot of info under lock-and-key for a very long time. Throw in a run of high-profile assassinations at the time, the cold war, and Vietnam and you have ample fuel for the imagination.

I seriously doubt you could get enough people to be silent long enough to carry out a conspiracy, much less keep it hidden. I understand what motivates the believers, and I don't judge them too harshly.

It's amazing that Obama show's up in the comments of every thread about everything on the internet.  And, of course, your comment is correct.

I really DO wish that the commerdcials weren't so bone-jarringly stupid. That girl is so farking hot! Of course, they also shouldn't have debuted her at the same time they were running the commercials of the real Wendy, that just made the 'real' one look worse, poor lady.

That is similar to the same reason that Communist countries get so farking out of hand. It starts out with a bunch of noble ideals about "the workers". Then people start realizing it's not working quite as well as they would have hoped, but they just had a lot of people give a lot up in its name, so they start with little coverups, then those get bigger, and those coverups require coverups, and so on. Pretty soon, the idealistic "Leaders of the People" are living in palaces while their people starve. It's the same kind of cycle, IMHO. Little White Lies require bigger and bigger lies, and things start smelling fishy, or a little bit of the word gets out, and things escalate in one direction from there, while the coverups get more elaborate and more "evidence" of the original conspiracy is incivered as those elaborate coverups start to fall apart.

The worst part is when some of the stuff mixed up in these stories turns oiut to be true, and everyone writes it all off later on because the overall conspiracy was proven wrong. People end up getting away with shiat.

Saw the Zapruder film.  Not a right winger by any stretch of the imagination.  You realize of course that a human body does not react like a watermelon when it takes a hit.  Reflexes kick in.  If something causes massive trauma to my right side I might jerk back and to the left, back and to the left, back and to the left.

I think JFK assassination theories are rare examples of mostly left wing derp, actually.

just_intonation: It's been well-established that Jack Ruby's presence in the DPD basement was sheer coincidence, no matter how much conspiracy theorists would like to believe (or prove) otherwise.

OK, but why would he ruin his life by killing a guy who was all set to be executed anyway (once the formalities were taken care of)? That's the least credible part of the official story of the assassination.

What could Jack Ruby possibly have thought he was doing, other than keeping Oswald from going to trial?

I have heard military snipers talk about getting in a head shot that jellies the brain stem and the body makes a ragdoll drop, no reflexes twitch.

Back and to the left is supposed to be a mass ejection reaction.

Remember, the beginning of the Ford administration we had an appointed president and vice president.

I've seen the Zapruder film.  Have *you* seen the Nix film, the Muchmore film, the Altgens photo, the Moorman photo, CE 399, CE 567, CE 569, and the dozens of other pieces of evidence that conspiracy theorists make a habit of ignoring?

2014-03-03 05:58:26 PM
In June 1960 and September 1963, the FBI suspected someone was using Oswald's identity. Oswald's best friend in Dallas was an aristocrat with intelligence connections to three countries, and who only made friends with Oswald at the behest of a CIA agent. Oswald's family and his belongings were at the residence of a woman with 3 familial intelligence connections and who helped him get his job at the TSBD.

Oswald wasn't just "some guy."

And then consider the kindly nightclub owner who heroically put his life on the line to spare the feelings of the former first lady. What strip club owner from Chicago wouldn't want to jump up and face the death penalty for a woman's honor? And to think he did it in a basement full of policemen who were guarding the most important prisoner in the world... whoa.

Adele Edison, Richard Case Nagell, Sylvia & Annie Odio, Lillian Spingler, Wally Weston, Shari Angel Weston, Elizabeth Cole, Eugene Dinkin, Joseph Milteer, Bill De Mar (William D. Crowe, Jr.), Rose Cherami (Melba Christine Marcades) all had interesting stories that strongly suggest foreknowledge of the assassination or of an connection between Oswald and Ruby.

Everyone who believes Oswald did it alone, seems to think he did it to become important. Yet every - single - opportunity he had to speak with reporters after the assassination he strongly denied shooting anyone. Funny way to try to get into the history books. The cops and feds questioned Oswald for 30 hours, yet they made no audio or stenographic recording of his statements.

Think about that for just a bit.

No

The planes on 9/11 were intercepted right at the point of impact by time travellers from earths own future. The passengers where removed, and transported to the future to repopulate the planet because the nuclear wars left humanity sterile.

I live in a world where they talk about a "magic bullet" without having looked at CE 399.  This bullet, which was matched ballistically to the C2766 Carcano rifle that Oswald owned, had clearly hit something, or someone, before it was retrieved.

My recollection is that when a reporter asked Oswald whether he had shot Kennedy, his response was, "I have not been charged with that."  That ain't no denial.

If he ever denied that he shot Patrolman JD Tippit, he was probably lying, given the mountain of eyewitness and ballistic evidence that suggests that he did.  Incidentally, Oswald tried to pull the same gun he used to kill Tippit on another cop, Nick McDonald, when he was arrested at the Texas Theater.

Three brothers dead under very mysterious circumstances? The forth brother tries suicide twice. A young sister has abhorrent memories scraped from her mind. Their offspring linked to deaths by drug overdoses and lack of skiing skills. Sounds more European than American.

***Why? Because it was in perfect character with who Jack Ruby was. He was impulsive and prone to violence. Check out Gary Wills and Ovid Demarest's book on Ruby, published in 1968 just a year after Ruby died. They talked with plenty of people who knew Ruby and nearly everyone was not surprised that he had shot Oswald. He was troubled by Kennedy's death and already being mentally unhinged got it into his mind that he needed to do something to keep Jackie Kennedy from coming back to testify at a trial. If Ruby hadn't already been in the vicinity of the Dallas Police Department that Sunday morning, after having wired some money to one of his dancers, history would have been much different.

The thing about the conspiracy crowd is that they get so caught up in all their grand elaborate theories they get further and further away from those who actually acted - Oswald and Ruby. Just reading about the two of them and their backgrounds, what they did that weekend was completely within character.

There was no connection between Ruby and Oswald. They never met until that Sunday morning...
