Every time there's a presidential election there's alot of blather about Character. Well, to me, character is looking straight into the camera and telling a flat-out lie about not banging an intern. Nobody, and I mean nobody every dished out prevarication like Bubba. You think that kind of chutzpah isn't useful when dealing with a major international crisis?

rickythepenguin: Via Infinito: Bubba can't help being irresistible.

i've said before, i've met a few women that have met him, and years after the fact, they'd still get flustered describing what it was like to speak to him.  one said, "i can't describe it, it was like....like....he was just so.....he just has something about him that...hoo-boy, excuse me!" *blushes*

I knew one girl who met him, and her description was, "I dunno...it's like...when he's talking to you even in a crowded room, it's as though you're the only one in the room with him." As far as I know she wasn't particularly political. Just another of 50,000,000 women Clinton has effortlessly spellbound. The guy is the original playa. America's true caliber pimp.

Since so many of us wistfully recall the 90s, I think Clinton often gets a free pass on some of mistakes he made. But even when you account for those, there's no denying that he presided over a decade of relative peace and prosperity. Many Republicans to this day will begrudgingly admit that Clinton managed "not to screw it up," which is a high compliment given today's political rhetoric.

And maybe I just admire Clinton because I'm a man, and in a poor display of stereotype have no choice but to admire such a masterful charmer. The whole "women want him, and men want to be him" thing.

It wasn't just women. I once talked to a guy who said he met Bill Clinton three times while he was governor. The first time, they talked for five minutes, tops. The second time, Clinton remembered the guy's name. The third time, Clinton remembered details about the guy's life. The dude was born to be a politician.

No silly.  Ronald Reagans increase in spending by putting non-violent drug offenders in jail for very long mandatory minimum sentences has proven to be a colossal failure.  The hundreds of billions wasted on his War on (some) Drugs (not alcohol or nicotine) did absolutely nothing to limit the supply of drugs in the last 30 years.   So there was no benefit at all from his worthless programs that increased spending.

Really Ron's biggest failure was tripling the national debt.  Lowering taxes on rich people while expanding military spending isn't a very prudent way to keep the books balanced.

/Of course, Dick Cheney famously said, "Ronald Reagan proved deficits don't matter".  Of course that only applies when a Republican is in charge.

Well, I never had to pee in a jar as a condition of working before Ronnie, and I'm not too fond of having to prove innocence as opposed to being considered innocent until proven guilty.

And yeah, the jar thing isn't a law, but it was his initiatives that made them SOP.

How about you?

I find any discussion about character in today's political environment laughable.  Almost ever member of Congress in both houses gleefully sells out their constituencies for campaign cash.  Almost ever member of Congress would rather a CEO get 20 more bucks rather than making sure a struggling family can eat.  If these aren't character defects then I don't know what are.

Pappas: golden goat: They end the article hoping that "Hillary wins"?  If Hillary Clinton runs on the democratic ticket, we'll have a republican president, no matter the number of rape "gaffes".

Keep telling yourself that, buddy. Wish it hard enough and it'll come true. Rub your lucky penny, too... just to be safe.

As a registered Republican, if the GOP doesn't find someone better real soon, I'll vote for her.

/Reagan was the best President ever
//Clinton is a very close second
///Pretty sure Hilary was the brains behind that operation.

There's no probably about it; if not for the 22nd amendment he probably would have blown by FDR.

/Well he might have lost in 2000 and then came back in '04.

No.

After FDR died during his fourth term, an amendment was passed limiting a President to 10 years in office, which means two full terms and no more than two extra years served if a VP has to take office due to the President's death or resignation.

Clinton has already served his two terms, and probably isn't even be eligible to be VP, since if his running mate were to go all William Henry Harrison, Clinton could legally only serve two years and there would still be two years left on the term.
