Hitler was the new Hitler before it was mainstream.

WAH!  We don't get to discriminate against people!  WAH!

Here's the thing with with Hitler - short of someone invading their neighbor countries and causing a war while murdering millions of people on the basis of some racial purity ideology, any comparison to Hitler will fail.

Meanwhile, with Jim Crow laws - laws with a racial or otherwise bigoted animus which allows for burdens on voting for sections of undesirable people and the segregation or refusal to service undesirable groups of the population?

Yeah, that's an easier burden to make comparisons to.

Not being able to discriminate against people you have an irrational hatred for is something Hitler would have loved.

Yeah, Hitler allowed people to express their sincere religious beliefs that all the Jews must die.

Government intervention on behalf of individual rights, on the other hand, is something that was absolutely and completely necessary in the south only 50 years ago.  Are you comparing federally-enforced desegregation of society to Hitler?

Keep it up, asshats, you're only shooting yourselves in whatever still remains of your feet.  The younger generations don't have any problems with gay people, and they think you're mean-spirited assholes for messing with them.  So keep it up, everything's totally going great, you're only losing at least two generations' votes for years to come.
Also, if you could continue to say stupid shiat about women, Latinos, and other minorities, that would be awesome.  I know you'll come through for me.  I have faith in you.

Even before the Jews and Roma.  They made it in the first wave of executions with communists and union members.

It'd be more accurate to say that there was nothing anti-gay about Arizona's anti-gay bill.

Except for that whole part where one of the bill's sponsors said that he was inspired to come up with the bill after a GAY COUPLE sued someone in Oregon for refusing to gay bake them a gay cake for their gay wedding. There's that. Nothing says "anti gay" like a bill's sponsor saying "anti gay".

2014-03-03 12:05:25 PM
The bottom line is: the Right thinks gay people are making a "choice" to be gay, just as early in their lives they made a choice to be straight.
It's not a gay man's fault the Right regrets that decision every time they climb into bed with their wives, but they have to pay for it.

Yeah.  It's like saying that "poll taxes" or "voter literacy tests" weren't racist, because the statute didn't literally say, "THIS IS TO KEEP BLACK PEOPLE FROM VOTING."

If it weren't for dead giveaways like the grandfather clauses, they probably could've gotten away with it too.  The right always pushes these things too far.

That seems an odd piece of sarcasm in this instance, given that the article is (presumably, without having read more than a couple of sentences) trying to equate Jim Crow laws and Hitler, in the sense of each being so bad that they aren't things you can normally use in analogies.

What's really amazing is that after a week or two of trying to convince us that we NEED laws like this in place specifically to protect us from the Folk, they're suddenly walking it back and acting like they never actually said any of that.

Karac: FTA: It'd be more accurate to say that there was nothing anti-gay about Arizona's anti-gay bill.

Also from Hot Air: As was increasingly expected, this evening Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer nixed Senate bill 1062, which would have allowed for a religious exemption to the state's public accommodation laws - i.e., businesses and individuals would have had legal protection in demurring from providing goods and services to certain customers on the basis of religious objections. A.k.a., gays and lesbians.

Yesterday, I wrote about the effort by the Arizona legislature to amend their state constitution to expand religious-liberty protection in the wake of lawsuits attempting to force participation in same-sex weddings by private businesses.

Who am I supposed to believe here?  The Hot Air that says SB 1062 had nothing to do with allow people to discriminate against gays, or the Hot Airs that say the entire point of SB 1062 was to allow people to discriminate against gays?

Hilarious fact: it is currently legal to discriminate against gay people in AZ.  There's no state protections, sexual orientation isn't included in the state's discrimination laws, and there's no federal protections for sexual orientation.  You can fire gay people, refuse to hire them, evict them, kick them out of school, and refuse service to anyone you suspect of being gay, and you will be 100% fine.

This is true of 29 states in the US, and interestingly, all the states that have recently tried to pass these religious exemption laws are part of this group.

Now, certain cities and municipalities within AZ may have their own anti-discrimination laws, but I thought conservatives were in favor of the most local governance possible...

In many states there were already laws against gay marriage, too.

But they needed CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS against it to make DOUBLE SURE it can't happen!!!

Why the hell are conservatives so scared of guys who like wang and women who like boobies?

Man o man conservatives really don't like teh gays.  It's very interesting to watch them dig in their heels at every chance they get.  Everyday some straight college kid is making friends with gay college kid.  And everyday those who are digging in their heels are becoming marginalized.  So, conservatives, what's your exit strategy?
