Last night's episode left me feeling almost bad for all those poor souls who've spent so much time and mental energy constructing these ultra-elaborate and increasingly ridiculous "twist" plots based off the tiniest and most contrived pieces of "symbolism." I bet a lot of them felt very, very let down by what happened last night. Which is too bad, because it was once again a great episode.

Cruncy spaghetti, no less. And, mugs.

You noticed no doubt that the lawn mower man was mowing in circles at the end.  But did you notice that the circle was going counter-clockwise?  Which means they've really been in Australia this whole time.

What a twist, huh?

Not to mention that the boat going by at the very end had what looked like a little lighthouse on it, which suggests that perhaps this is all nothing but a fever dream taking place in the mind of Virginia Woolf.

Last night's episode put a lot of holes in my theory that Marty is the Yellow King -- but HE IS! I JUST KNOW IT, DAMMIT!

Whatever, whomever, however -- best television ever.

how many of you remember Marty's daughter playing with dolls and arranging them in some kind oscene with a person laying on the ground and people (men) standing around  like a rape scene?

- i still think she may have knowledge of something / been a victim

I totally thought that they would pan out to show the guy mowing one of those spirals into some field.

Pretty obvious at this point that Rust is going to kill himself at the end of all this.  He is coming to terms with what he did to his own child.

She's a red herring. Or an easter egg. But she's not going to fit into the main story.

Also, her painting last night: black stars.

Marty was seeing something that wasn't really there.  Like when Rust saw the flock of birds form the tattoo spiral.  When you look at something long enough you start seeing it everywhere.

They need to have a line of True Detective greeting cards, just so I can send my friend one that says. "Father Time has his way with us all. I'd day you must have pissed him off."

That was probably the worst episode.  Not that it was bad, but just the worst of the 7.  Felt kinda hurried, didn't quite have the same edge.. not sure.  Maybe just the expectation that there's only 2 left made it feel flat.

It makes me wonder about the scene where she was found with the boys.  She's a problem child, but perhaps losing her virginity would be a preventative gesture?  Now she can't be one of the town virgin sacrifices?  The way Maggie knocked on the door and said "It's just you and me here now, honey..." I think she may know more about the rituals, etc. than we think she does.  I keep thinking about the flowers drawing - in their house and in the hospital.  And Marty talking about stuff being under his nose the whole time.

Maggie was wearing yellow when she was talking to Rust at the bar!

Nah, but seriously, I wonder if the shocking twist or whatever comes close to it has to do with Maggie and the daughters. I'm just glad it looks like neither Marty or Rust are the killer at this point. Neither sat well with me.

It's a stretch, but possible. Now they're saying that reverend dude had tons of illegitimate children. Maggie could be one of them.

I think it was that there wasn't any exposition via interrogation flashback. The two detectives who asked Lawnmower Man for directions were the constant in all the previous episodes' pacing.

Maggie is living in a really nice house.  I wonder who bought it for her.  We haven't met him yet.  But it has to tie in somehow.

The guy who tried to buy her a drink in the bar before she farked Rust is listed in the imdb credits as having the same last name as Maggie has now. The name escapes me, but the two detectives called her Mrs. "Something", and I double checked the credits from that episode, and Bar Guy had the same last name. So I'd assume she moved in with him.
