The problem with the whole "cure for cancer" idea is that there are many different types of cancer which grown and cause problems in different ways.  Saying you want a cure for cancer is like saying you want a cure for violence.

The best way to avoid cancer is to exercise regularly.  The best way to survive cancer is to get it detected early.

/if you are a man reading this, check your balls for lumps.  If a women, your breasts.  Right now.  Do it.

As a testicular cancer survivor, I agree 100% - even if that little lump is tiny-tiny, go get an ultrasound of your family jewels to make sure, and keep on checking that lump in case it gets any bigger.

Early detection = better chance of keeping your jewels safe

Do it for your balls, man!

/still has both because he checked early.

I know this isn't the place, but what exactly did the lump feel like? Was it soft or super-hard, or what?

Also, it's shiatake.

There always seem to be an article about how anything can cure cancer, and things that will cause it too. Moving right along, nothing to see here.

If it comes down to eating mushrooms or having cancer I will have to think long and hard.

Mushrooms *shudder*

2014-03-03 08:53:08 AM
"These mushrooms have attributes you can't synthesize, because the molecules are often too complex..."

Until these compounds, alkaloids, whatever can be synthesized and patented we won't hear any more. Amirite?

Exactly this. My father had a bad cough for about a year. I kept bugging him to go to the doctor about it. When he finally did, they sent him in for a chest X-ray. They found numerous tumors. Stage IV. He died six months later.

Ever since, I've been wondering if he could have survived the cancer if he hadn't been so stubborn and had gone in when that damn cough first started.

/Five years this November.

My friend's dad recently died of cancer. From what I was told, he had a "muscle cramp in his rib cage" that he didn't bother to get checked for like 6 months. He had lung cancer the whole time.

And mushrooms can possibly cure a bunch of ailments. Unfortunately our society is incredibly squeamish towards most types of fungi, and our pharmaceutical companies are incredibly squeamish at the thought of cheap competition.

3rd grade science project crap

- step 1 put some cancer cells in a petri dish
-  step 2 pour some coca cola on it
-   step 3 watch cells die
- step 4  declare cure for cancer

Maybe not, but it'll certainly make the doctors visit more entertaining...

Given the popularity of articles lately trying to convince us to eat bugs, it's a wonder we aren't reading about how eating termites, grasshoppers and worms will cure cancer.

That or just don't live very long. Cancer becomes pretty much inevitable if you live long enough. *shrugs* If cancer doesn't get you, something else will, I guarantee it.
