taurusowner: Marcellinus: Fuggin Bizzy: Montana is a terrible place, and you should all stay as far away as possible.

^ It's horrible there. Full of misplaced Californians.

That seems to be a common theme with some "flyover" states. Californians farked up their own state, raised the cost of living, taxes, added mounts of onerous rules. And then when faced with the truth of what they did, they decide to move...and start it all over in another state. Moving out of California is fine, but please leave your California ways with you. We don't don't want your taxes, programs,

You already have taxes and programs.

gun bans or

Let us know what guns are banned in California that aren't in the rest of the USA

high prices

Prices are high because jobs pay a lot

If you do, stay in Cali.

DURP!

Typical, welcoming western attitude.  At a population density of six per square mile I'm sure you'll be falling all over those that leave California for your fine state.

I see this in most agrarian states, that hatefulattitude towards "Outsiders" and a lack of understanding that we're all Americans.

Sio: orangehat: I was a bit surprised last week when we had lightning, hail and then snow...I'm not sure if the weather people predicted that or not but in real time my phone and every weather website I saw just said it was "cloudy."

Welcome to Colorado... :)

I've been here for some time, I've seen the lightning and snow before...just not in February.  I thought maybe someone was carrying something heavy and dropped it.  After 3 more I went to check out what was going on...I've got loud neighbors so I figured it was people making the noise.

The map counts "events", which apparently includes injuries and fatalities. So, no people = no events. That's why the map basically looks like a population map.

I suspect the author is misinterpreting the map. Rather than the number of strikes it appears to attempt to depict the cost of resulting damage from lightning strikes.

For example, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in NE Minnesota is not densely populated or susceptible to an inordinate number of strikes. The map depicts tens of thousands of acres burned as the result of a lightning strike.

Except all those places where there's "no data".
