The advice was "inherit good genes"

"Quit. Don't quit. Noodles. Don't noodles. You are too concerned with what was and what will be. There's a saying: "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called a "present."

Sideways vagina mouth.

In the year in which Misao Okawa was born in Osaka, Queen Victoria was still on the British throne, the Spanish American War was raging and Horatio Kitchener triumphed in the Battle of Omdurman.

That's crazy shiat.

Nick Nostril: Sideways vagina mouth.

Well, she is Asian.

I wonder how long I can go without the sushi part of her plan...

She won't be 116 until March 5th. Until then, I'll remain unimpressed.

There's really a lot to be said about getting enough sleep.  I don't get those people who boast about how little sleep they get, yet believe themselves to still be functioning at 100%.  All of us know at least a few people like that, and chances are many of you are the same.  Get some sleep, it's good for you.

Her advice boils down to, "Stop stressing yourself over shiat that doesn't matter."

Wise words.

Did anyone else read the "you should really try to relax" comment as "seriously, this isn't that exciting, leave me alone you nosy assholes and go read a statistics book or something"?

Because I'm pretty sure that's what she meant.

// Seriously, random media assholes, is "normal distribution" really that far out of your intellectual capacity?  I see hung-over, sleep-deprived undergrads pick up the concept in about a minute and a half all the time, and I'm not just talking about the ones in the science program.

A few years back they asked the current oldest person in the world what she thought the rest of her life would be like.

"Short"

I find it to be extremely depressing that the "happiest time in her life" was nearly a century ago.

After she returned to the nursing home from a stay in hospital, the staff found her doing leg squats as she held on to a hand rail in the hall.
When asked what she was doing, Mrs Okawa replied that she was making sure her body did not get out of shape.

Meanwhile we have teenagers here unable to do such physical feats without risk of heart attack.

A really cute picture of her at age 2.  Her face hasn't changed that much in 114 years, just a few wrinkles! And having parents that were kimono makers must have factored into her having such a cute outfit. Wander if that's still a big profession in Japan in 2014 as it was in 1900.

Genes obviously is a big factor. Two of her three children survive and they're in their 90's.  And when you add plenty of sleep, sushi and exercise, voila, you can make it to 116.

My genes are not the greatest, I don't get enough sleep or exercise.  I do eat sushi once a week. Maybe that'll be my saving grace.

I remember seeing some broad on Johnny Carson (long time ago, obviously)., she was 106 or 108 or something....Johnny asked her the secret to her long life and she says "I quit smoking and drinking" so Johnny asks her when.  "On my 96th birthday."

I love that woman.

I think George Burns said something about drinking every day and smoking a cigar every day were the keys to his long life.

Glad to see that was covered in the... er...early on (trying to avoid the filter here).

That's all there is to it. Good luck to the rest of you trying to get around what your genes have in store for you.

I got the genes for eating crap food, hating exercise, and sulking. So it's gonna be a short life, but a crabby one.

easy to live to 116 when you never need to work or lift a finger.

men have always been swinging dicks.  they go out of their way to help women, anyway they can.

Well Winston Churchill lived into his 90s and he drank like a quart of whisky, a quart of brandy, and smoked like 25 cigars a day.

My genes gave me chronic treatment resistant depression, a long life is the last thing I want.
