Sasheen Littlefeather?

Man. I'd like to put a trophy on Jennifer Lawrence's mantle.

I think Ellen will do great.

I don't think Seth MacFarlane will ever be asked back.

Looking forward to them asking Jimmy Fallon one day.

This ends all the gazillions of awards given out this year, right?

Who will get the most applause during the dead celebrity segment?

I like how HBO is still running a new True Detective tonight. I wouldn't want to have to wait another week.

Really? I thought it was a great movie. Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts was a little hard to swallow but on the technical merits alone it was pretty good.

The slave movie will win though, since there aren't any holocaust or retard movies in contention.

Sober?

Looking forward to Ellen hosting. I hated Seth McFarlane's hosting.

I thought Gravity was fantastic and hope it wins. Sandra Bullock should win, imo.

I feel like a sane man in a world gone crazy with this gravity thing. Yes, it was a wonderful planetarium exhibition show, and deserve to win some technical awards. But it was a boring ass story with a shallow theme, no character work, and completely average acting. Clooney was terribly miscast.

I just don't get it, and if it wins either of the 2 big awards I'll be highly annoyed.

Now that would be a long-shot bet.  Partly because it's hard to tell.

Mugato: Who will get the most applause during the dead celebrity segment?

Last year, the academy outlawed clapping during that segment because they don't want to turn it into a popularity contest. Not sure it it will be the same this year.

Gravity was great to look at, well directed and well acted.

But it was a man versus nature tale. When you do that you need to get your science completely right or the story rings false. When Sandra Bullock stopped, Colony would have had no forward momentum. Then all Clooney or bullock had to do was pull the rope and they could continue on their merry way.

It was a good movie. My pick for the best. American Hustle was good as well.

Shakespeare in Love is a better movie than Saving Private Ryan. I defend the Academy on that one.

BUT - Blanchett should have won that award over Paltrow.

Will the red carpet be squishy to walk on?

Best supporting actress: Jennifer Lawrence (or probably the chick from that slave movie)
Best actress: Amy Adams (or probably Blanchett)
Best supporting actor: Jared Leto
Best actor: McConaughey
Best picture: American Hustle (or probably the slave movie)
Best Director: the guy who directed the slave movie

This is an interesting year in that there really isn't a clear front-runner. I managed to see everything but Nebraska this year, and it's as deep of a group as we've had in a long time.

My predictions:

Picture:
Hope for: Her Guess: 12 Years a Slave

Actor:
Hope for: McConaughey Guess: DiCaprio

Actress:
Hope for: Amy Adams Guess: Cate Blanchett

Supporting Actor:
Hope for/Guess: Fassbender

Supporting Actress:
Hope for: Lupita Nyong'o  Guess: Sally Hawkins or Julia Roberts

Animated:
Hope for/Guess: Frozen

Cinematography:
Hope for/Guess: Gravity

Directing:
Hope for: Cuaron  Guess: McQueen

Adapted Screenplay:
Hope for: Before Midnight Guess: 12 Years a Slave

Original Screenplay:
Hope for: Her Guess: American Hustle

Funny insider story about those Oscars.  Roberto Benigni, doing that retarded crawl over the seats, stepped on Tom Hanks' mother.  Hanks called him a "donkey-faced git."

I'm pretty sure it's that song that did him in for a return gig.

Jared Leto shan't be wearing a dress; on this I would bet eight (8) American dollars.

Who wants to bet that McConaghey wins Best Actor the same moment he's saying something profound and awesome on HBO? Has anyone ever won Best Actor at the Oscars and Emmys before? How about in the same year?

I'm actually going to watch this year. I hope Leo finally gets his oscar. I'd back Chiwetel Ejiofor, but I've a dark suspicion that he's the one who turned down the role of Doctor Who.

Ah, Bruce Dern. Ever since Big Love, you've always disgusted me.

James72: I'm really hoping Bad Grandpa wins best makeup

Honestly, they probably deserve it.  It's far more traditional makeup use than Dallas Buyers' Club, which is probably going to win because of the whole "we had a $200 makeup budget" storyline.

Have they shown Lupita yet? The person with the best fashion sense of all time?

Laura Dern needs to eat a few more sandwiches. She's looking way to skinny and angular.

If he doesn't win, he'll probably be pissed he didn't stay home and watch tonight's episode (assuming his claim of watching True Detective live is true).

In answer to your latter question, Helen Hunt and Helen Mirren both won Oscars and Emmys in the same year.

Pretty weak category that year though:

Helen Hunt - As Good as It Gets as Carol Connellydouble-dagger
Helena Bonham Carter - The Wings of the Dove as Kate Croy
Julie Christie - Afterglow as Phyllis Mann
Judi Dench - Mrs. Brown as Queen Victoria
Kate Winslet - Titanic as Rose DeWitt Buker

I guess I'd have picked Dench? But a very weak year.
