the Oscars' voting committee is comprised of old bored rich white men

While I'm certain they're old, rich and white, I'm not so sure about the bored part.

Didn't we have this story already?: link (So about your theory that Academy Award voters are all old white men...It's actually a lot worse than you think )

Although I clicked because I thought she might be dissing Richard Linklater or Ethan Hawke

Wasn't she supposedly going to direct a Joe Strummer biopic a few years ago?

The previous thread was in regards to the Academy's president.

She's absolutely correct. The Oscar's are a politically correct farce.

So no "Between Midnight and Sunrise"?

Yeah, I'm not paying any attention to award shows, either, these days.

It's not like France has any sort of film industry. Yeah, she's going to starve...

Jesus, has she been smoking cigarettes non-stop since 1990?  She's looking a little harsh.

Sad thing is she's probably damn well right.

Oh, the Academy Awards. Where a film featuring a enormously fat black chick stealing fried chicken can win the gold. Yes, they truly are worth caring about.

So if you can live happy in one country, why would you care about what another country thinks?

""Every time I've become a part of the Hollywood mainstream, it's been crap! Let's be honest: 90% of movies made in Hollywood are crap," stated Delpy. "

That's a lot of working people she just shiat on. Oh well. Personally I thought After Mudnight was okay, though I appreciate the ten minute scene Delpy was topless for during a fight with Hawke.

Is she suggesting that they only vote for old, rich, white, bored nominees? What PC bs.

She is French, so it's entirely possible.

Cuba Gooding Jr.? Last thing I saw him in was what I assume was a direct to DVD sci-fi movie co-starring Val Kilmer, the movie was named Hardwired I believe, and it was awful. But hey, it's work. Apparently he's been in some stuff since that, but not exactly major roles as far as I know.

Who the fark is she?

/no really
//I have no idea

2014-03-02 09:18:55 AM
she's basically right: 86% are over 50, 94% white, 77% male.

personally, I couldn't care less about the Oscars. If the industry wants to have an awards show, fine. But it makes no difference to the films I see because they've made so many goofy decisions and I listen to certain critics that I trust. And I'm sure that voters get bribed, There's no other excuse for The English Patient.

2014-03-02 09:44:36 AM

farkeruk: she's basically right: 86% are over 50, 94% white, 77% male.

Yep.  And that hand doesn't feed her; she was never going to win an Oscar anyway.  (Didn't even get a nomination for Before Sunset, which was easily one of the best performances that year.)  She's never really worked much in big studio films, and at her age, that's not likely to change no matter what she tells the media.  The people most likely to employ her are not part of the establishment that she's criticizing here.  So basically: she's right, and saying these things out loud will have zero impact on her career.

2014-03-02 10:10:32 AM
The Oscars are controlled by old rich men who are easily bribed, just like everything else.

Yeah, most of us are unchanged by 22 years.

The photos in the article make her look like 22 years older than in 'Before Midnight', which came out just last year. Not that it matters but it is a bit of a shock to see such a sudden change. It's easy to forget just how talented hair and makeup people are on movie sets.

I loved 'Killing Zoe', but can't remember her even being in it (maybe it's because it's been so long since I saw it?)

From what I can tell, she was already big in France, so she'll probably do like most French actors and actresses who try their hand in America, and just go back to France. Audrey Tautou, anyone?

Ugh, yeah.  Her career in no way resembles Katherine Heigl's.   Heigl wanted to star as eye candy  in major studio big budget generic Hollywood rom-coms.

Delpy's films are  are produced and greenlit in France.  Movies which she either gets to write or direct herself.   The exceptions are Linklater's films (which Delpy co-writes), which are produced by Linklater and a group of financiers outside of the major studio infrastructure.

If Heigl were willing to spend five minute chunks of screen time topless, I'd pretty sure her career would take right back off.

I know plenty of 44 year olds who look worse, but she looked great the last time I saw candid photos of her.  She looks like she's aged 10 years overnight.

Having checked out these nasty pictures of Delpy, I'm going to say the main problem with them is the flash on the camera.
