From the years 1234 to 1487, a stream of radio signals arrived at our planet, sent by a nearby civilization in a SETI-type quest for other intelligences, after detecting a potentially life-bearing planet orbiting around a G-class star in the "Goldilocks" (well, their word was, of course, different for this zone) zone.

We missed this signal. The alien civilization did not hear back, and eventually moved on to other interests, having found no other intelligent life in the universe, despite spending billions of Quatlos to support their scientists in their efforts.

Hurray for science!

/The lesson here is that civilizations will arise and fall at greatly varying windows of time. Their use of radio exists in a small window of that time. Radio doesn't travel well over interstellar distances, anyway.

I don't think the author has been exposed to the Metric system. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the rest, does it.

I chalked that up to a possible language barrier.  When he said that the Drake Equation was created in 1991, which I distinctly remember being in Cosmos from the 1980s, and Wiki reveals it was first written in 1961, it was time to let go.

I don't have a problem with the Drake equation but the numbers plugged in in this video are horseshiat.

He assumes that 100% of planets that can produce life will produce life and that 100% of those will evolve intelligent life. That's quiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite a stretch. He's basically saying that every single planetoid that can support a microbe will eventually support an advanced civilization. Mmmmkay.

Then there's the idea that an advanced civilization might send detectable radio waves into space for 100 million years.

Optimistic much?

Of course aliens exist. I saw a bunch of aliens this morning.

They were all standing out in the cold at the "day labor pickup" safe zone the local police have set up.

Well, that's pretty conclusive.

1. Life on Earth is very diverse and can survive in a wide range of conditions (on Earth).
2. Drake's Equation (which has been around for decades).

Throw in some low-quality drawings and a guy with a thick accent...I'm sold!

So he basically rips off the animation style of a popular, entertaining, educational Youtube channel (whose name escapes me...One Minute Physicist or something like that), throws in some equation that ends up with a number ranging from 1,000 to 100 MEELION and decides to post it to the internet without getting mocked?

Who says EM is the way to go? Neutrino pulse "morse code", or it's mathematical equivalent would remain detectable and undistorted for a much further distance.

By Earth's standards we were only doing it for 100 years. As we move on to digital and / or compressed signals the ability to detect drops as everything starts looking like static.
