This is a regime whose leaders have been booking seats in first class on said flight for decades.

DWB is the one international level charity I've found that I could actually fully trust.  Being hated on by a dictator for healing hurt people is about the best crime anyone could ever hope to commit.

So we address international crisis via Twitter now?

Well, If you read the whole article you will read that "the populous" are actually the ones causing the injuries to the minorities the doctors were trying to treat.  Sometimes the populous are the bad guys.

That still leaves the government there as failing to ensure their people get the medical help they need and deserve.
Standing by and shrugging your shoulders while others do wrong right in front of you makes you an asshole for stepping up to the plate.

I'm sure they'll be welcomed back as long as they don't interfere with the state sanctioned oppression and murder visited on its most vulnerable citizens. Since helping those sorts of people is kind of their bread and butter I guess that Myanmar can go fark itself.

This might be worldview shattering for you but....jumping to snap conclusions and calling for the deaths of "every goddamned one of the assholes", as you did, is precisely the problem.  Then the other side does the same thing.  Then your side.  Then...who is right?

Crazy thought of the day, perhaps a little tolerance might actually help.

It astounds me that what was once a country with seemingly bright future has since '62 been used and abused to hell by a military regime so abhorrent it defies putting into words. They have ruined the country and made slaves of the people.
Seems like high time the Burmese people pulled a 'colonial america' and tell their oppressors where to get off.

I'd say Jainism has never been involved in a war.  Some Jains carry brooms and sweep the ground in front of them lest they step on an insect.

Um, no.
Because military juntas, much like colonial british rule, needs to be cast off when it runs the citizenry into the ground.
"Turn the other cheek" will not work in this case.

Cute, but an absolute fallacy if you are referring to the US. There is a vast difference between failing to fund universal healthcare and chasing off doctors willing to treat for free.
You are blind if you cannot see that, or a liar if you try to rationalize any parallel via such a false equivalence.

That's why I set them as 2 separate and distinct situations. Perhaps would have been clearer thus:

Google disproves that pretty quick. The second hit for "bbc myanmar" is a story they ran last month titled "Myanmar opens up mobile market to two foreign firms":

FTA: "The government in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma..."

I've donated to them each of the past three years. I dropped support after finding Direct Relief and giving money to them, but I think this pushed then back into the give column.

US Treas needs negotiating room during financial crisis. Hillary Clinton goes to Myanmar and their globalist drug lord military junta. Their cash is getting harder to launder, Obama regime needs unborrowed cash and voila .. Myanmar doesn't have a prob anymore.

Coincidence, or, way-outa-sphere?

2014-03-01 12:45:33 AM
Slightly off topic, but I've always wonder why this organisation is called "Doctors Without Borders" in North America, but "Médecins Sans Frontières" everywhere else. Anyone know the reason?

If it was just the US, then that could be explained away by the US having minimal influence from France, and French not being that widely spoken. But, it's an official language in Canada, so that blows that theory.

Seriously, it's bugged me for years.
