Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) was the only member of Congress to reply.

CNSNews.com is a division of the Media Research Center, a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization. Like National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting System, CNSNews.com is able to provide its services and information to the public at no cost, thanks to the generous support of our thousands of donors and their tax-deductible contributions. However, unlike NPR or PBS, CNSNews.com does not accept any federal tax money for its operations.

"...asked them whether they thought it was appropriate for a federally funded organization to produce a video promoting bondage and sadomasochism to teens."

They say this exact same line like, 5 times in that article.

"According to some random websites, October has been officially declared national kink month," says Green on the video. "And when you think about it--October and kink--they are kind of a fitting pair. Halloween and kink are both about adventure and fun and exploring rolls and dynamics that are maybe a little bit different from everyday life. So many of the common kinks out there fall under the umbrella of BDSM. "

This is dumb, too.

If you're too stupid to understand that education people about a thing is not the same as promoting a thing, you should never publish anything again, ever.

I'm more amused by a drunken tale told one night about the guy telling it waking up next to a woman he couldn't remember the name of. But apparently they'd gotten a little kinky. Because CSN is about as relevant as the local Shopper's Guide with the Piggly Wiggly sale paper inside?

If politicians took every interview request, they wouldn't have time to do their jobs. What do you want the politicians to say, in what will definitely be a hostile interview? While I'd love to see John Boehner get ripped apart by Stewart or Colbert, I'm not surprised that he turns down their interviews.

In my experience, education can equal promotion, but as often as not, it doesn't. It usually has a lot to do with how education is presented.

Well, she wasn't intentionally promoting drug use, however statistics show that the whole D.A.R.E campaign (Just say no! was it's rallying cry) was a total failure and in many instances may have actually encouraged teenagers to try drugs.

Not that it has any bearing on this story.  I just can't help but point out, at every opportunity, what an abject failure our 'war on drugs' has been in every measurable way.

Sex is something to be done in the dark for as little time as possible and only for having babies. It's only for those who accept the most boring tedious interpretation of 'love' - basically I'm stuck with you 'cause society said I had to pick 'someone' and you were the most acceptable at the time.

Anything else is a librul abomination.

Seriously though, if you're into BDSM you're best off being a gay man. The sexual spectrum for use heteros is monochrome... and dull, dull gray. Promoting non-vanilla sex to women of any age is akin to trying to sell fresh dog crap to a germaphobe.

I think we can all agree that drunk driving is dangerous, not only to the drivers, but all others on the road as well.

Therefore, I think we can all agree that anyone ordering a drink at a bar, restaurant, or sporting event should be required to watch fifteen minutes of "Blood On The Highway" produced in 1969 by the Ohio State Police Department before being allowed to consume that drink.

All in agreement say aye.

Huh?  I mean, while I am flattered that you would say so, I really don't understand why you would say it.

Was it because I called their "educational" video bullshiat because it barely scratched the surface of the topic, let alone even mention the fact that there are more ways than this to get your rocks off and doing some research while keeping an open mind about the possibilities may lead to more fun than you've ever had, not to mention the possibility of finding something that has been truly missing your whole life and you could crawl out of that deep, dark pit of depression and actually be happy for a change?

Cause if that was the reason, then I sincerely agree, and I thank you.

Says you. Anyway, I'm more concerned about these "CNSNews" people who are telling teens where to find videos on BDSM:
The "For Teens" page also includes a tab leading directly to the PPNNE website's "A Naked Notion With Laci Green" page and also a tab leading to PPNNE's "Teen Resource Center," which features a link to the YouTube page for "A Naked Notion With Lace Green." ... One of PPNNE's Naked Notion videos--"Getting Kinky (BDSM 101)"--features Green telling teenagers that October is "national kink month" and a good time to talk about bondage and sadomasochism.

Frankly, I don't believe it's right that CNSNews should be telling teens - and possible even small children, or even toddlers! - where to find kinky sex videos. I tried contacting them, but they did not respond to my questions, so that's clearly an admission that they know they're doing something wrong.

No. Their stupidity needs to be put on a pedestal to be openly and aggressively ridiculed. Politeness is reserved for people with IQs higher than their shoe size.

Planned parenthood is not going to feature your twisted anal branding, fellatio slave box and breast skewering obsessions in a basic level sex ed video for teens, sorry.  Anyone who makes it so far down the rabbit hole that they even understand the acronyms you use probably knows exactly what they're getting themselves into.

Sid_the_sadist: Agent Nick Fury: Yes, the world definitely needs more 'you'.

You're more than welcome but I was referring more to your desire to have a woman you don't know taken to your "playground" to be taught a lesson for three hours.

And there's the rub. While I do not disagree with educating our children about...well, everything honestly, this, in my opinion, is doing more harm than good. NOT telling them about the bottom of the rabbit hole is essentially lying to them. While sex education, focusing on protection from pregnancy and STD's with a generous helping of emotional support and honesty is something we SHOULD be teaching our teens, they are not quite ready for the heavy shiat that IS out there. The bottom of the rabbit hole, I feel, is something that you tell your teenager about when they ask, honestly and openly, as a parent. NOT something they should learn from Planned Parenthood.

Agent Nick Fury: Neondistraction: geek_mars: when Nancy Reagan (Just Say No!) educated our nation's young people about the dangers of drugs, she wasn't promoting drug abuse.

How is LBJ's War on Poverty working out?

You should point that out at every opportunity, too.

What, the War on Poverty that dropped the U.S. poverty rate from more than 22 percent to between 11 and 15 percent, where it has been ever since? The War on Poverty that created Medicare and Medicaid, and made the lives of millions of elderly people better? That War on Poverty? Yeah, that one's going OK. It would have gone a lot better if Nixon hadn't gutted the job training part of it, and Reagan even more, but it's still a rousing success as such wars go.

AirForceVet: FTA: CNSNews.com also contacted all the members of the New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont congressional delegations and asked them whether they thought it was appropriate for a federally funded organization to produce a video promoting bondage and sadomasochism to teens.

Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) was the only member of Congress to reply. According to spokesman Jeff Grappone, "Senator Ayotte thinks this video, which is clearly targeted at a younger audience, is inappropriate and troubling. She believes taxpayers shouldn't be directly or indirectly funding activity like this."

However, despite repeated requests for comment, Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT), Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-ME), Rep. Michael Michaud (D-ME), Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH), and Rep. Ann Kuster (D-NH) did not respond.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Sen. Angus King (I-ME), and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) also dodged CNSNews.com's questions.

I thought that perhap CNS.com was slanted with only one GOP Senator replying with mostly Democratic and Independent Senators & Representatives not replying.

Then I looked up and saw these three states only have two GOP Congressional members.

So, is CNS upset that this sex ed video exists in the first place, or that only Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont kids get to see it?

While I think there's merit to the point you're making, I also feel that a sex ed video that "scratches the surface" of such topics could prompt young people to ask those very questions. No exposure to the topic has zero chance of fostering that conversation, so in that sense, a little can lead to a lot and is better than nothing.
Not telling them about the bottom of the rabbit hole may be essentially lying to them, but not telling them the rabbit hole exists only avoids the lie by keeping them ignorant of the topic.
Some would argue that no education on such a topic would be better than limited education, and I can see an argument being made for that position if one expects that the limited education is all they'll receive, but learning promotes further learning and I optimistically hope that getting a limited education on a subject will spark the learner's curiosity and prompt them to seek out more information to expand their learning beyond the limited.

1) Teenagers will believe their friends before that "trained professional" much of the time. Actually, people in general do that. This is why snopes.com exists.
2) If you don't learn how to "control" your kids and to even a certain extent "manipulate them" you will raise kids that know jack shiat about anything and won't listen to anyone. You have to control them enough so they don't do stupid shiat, and manipulate them enough so they understand they should listen to you/authority figure about *why* not to do stupid shiat.

If they have a source that is backed by professionals presenting impartial, medically sound, non-judgmental information it will help a significant portion of them.

AugieDoggyDaddy: It is my belief that PP is not the appropriate venue for BDSM or cos-play education.

Who cares who provides the information as long as it is accurate?? The point is to educate to allow for informed decision making. If a teenager is going to a Planned Parenthood then the subject of sex is already on the table ... let's make sure they clearly understand all aspects including all the different forms of risks. One thing is for sure ... they've already heard all about how fun it is and how adults do it all the time. Ask yourself, what are a teenager's highest priorities? Answer: Having fun and thinking that they are already adults.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  It isn't the kids that can't handle this material, it's their parents that are too immature to discuss these kinds of subjects in a rational and dignified way.  This is what happens when you raise children with sexual shame in a "We don't talk about that sort of thing" culture, they go on to handicap their kids with it too.

So what you are suggesting is that a professional organization cannot put out "more correct" information than what a teenager would get if they just google "BDSM"? I shudder to think what google would hit on that.

If the NASA ISS page became the cool place teenagers went for answers to questions they had and if the page had accurate information to answer their questions ... then sure. It would be a ridiculous place to put it but the more importing factor would be that people are getting what they need.

What is your infatuation with the PP mission statement?? It seems to me this bullet explains their actions quite well: "to provide educational programs which enhance understanding of individual and societal implications of human sexuality". Or do you just have a problem in general with a group that values people's personal rights and health?

I'd hazard to guess that it saves money in the long run.  Tax money spent on education generally does.

If you really want to make it purely a question of dollars and cents, then be prepared to PROVE it's a waste of money, rather than merely ASSUME it.

Jesus said there would always be poverty (Matthew 26:11).  Are you defying God by arguing man's inability to totally eliminate poverty is a failure that should count against him?
