China? I guess our human rights abuses are trite and amateurish by their standards.

Typical reaction by China, point your finger and scream NOU.

this happens every year

BEIJING, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- China published a report critical of the United States' human rights record Friday, responding to criticism of China in a U.S. State Department report.

2014-02-28 02:25:34 PM

Nabb1: China? I guess our human rights abuses are trite and amateurish by their standards.

Exactly.
"You people call THAT violating human rights?"

2014-02-28 02:26:10 PM
America may have problems, but we are able to discuss them openly.

2014-02-28 02:27:41 PM
Yeah, it says they are doing exactly the same thing they always do when their human rights record gets criticized.

Yawn.

"Nuh uh, you are!" may be a cunning comeback for 8-year-olds, but it's pretty pathetic coming from China.

2014-02-28 02:27:54 PM

thamike: ...Until you consider the source...

America:  China abuses human rights!
China:  So does hypocritical America!
America:  Tu quoque!
China:  Tu quoque!

Snowden certainly wasn't able to discuss shiat openly.

So, your argument is that its hypocritical of China to say that America violates human rights.

Which is also their argument.  Just the other way around.

Yeah, that is pretty stupid.  Of, uh, them.  Just them.

2014-02-28 02:29:53 PM
Just because they're hypocrites, doesn't mean they don't have valid points.

2014-02-28 02:31:49 PM

illogic: Just because they're hypocrites, doesn't mean they don't have valid points.

Both sides are hypocrites and both sides have valid points about the other side.

In short, both countries are guilty.  That said, which side is guilty of the greater crimes?

I don't know. Maybe people in each country should work on fixing their respective homeland's human rights abuses.

So if I am reading this thread correctly farkers are responding to China's "no you" response with a "no you" response of their own?

2014-02-28 02:36:10 PM
Yeah, right China. At least when WE execute somebody, we don't charge their families' for the cost of the materials like bullets, noose, IV lines, go juice.

2014-02-28 02:36:40 PM

Infernalist: That said, which side is guilty of the greater crimes?

I dunno man.  How many innocent people did we kill in Iraq? Afghanistan? Viet Nam?

The numbers are too large and complicated to allow for simple comparisons and at some point I suppose it just becomes a wash.

Hey, China... shut your obnoxious little dog up and maybe you'll be closer to having a valid point

2014-02-28 02:38:51 PM
Does the US execute criminals simply to harvest their organs for the black market? I'm not sure even Rick Perry would go that far.

StopLurkListen: America may have problems, but we are able to discuss them openly.

Hey, China is allowed to discuss American problems out in the open, too! As loud as they want.

What? Chinese problems? Oh.

Yeah, pretty much.

Both sides are bad.

I ain't gonna work for UNICOR no more!

Yeah, federal prisoners forced to work for up to $1.15 an hour.

StopLurkListen: America may have problems, but we are able to discuss them openly.

Oh, you can discuss all kinds of problems openly there.

Just no problems that potentially threaten the government.  That's right out.

The headline implies that the criticisms are somehow more weighty coming from China when the opposite of that is true.

failure to act on a series of U.N. conventions on human rights, the imposition of solitary confinement in prisons, gun violence, high unemployment and homelessness.

A country which executes the greatest number of people in the world each year for crimes that would be misdemeanors in the United States, sentences people to slave labor in work camps, who keeps an entire class of people poor in the rural areas to maintain their farming and unskilled labor workforces, and which arbitrarily imprisons people for speaking up about Government corruption is lecturing the United States on human rights.

We've got a long way to catch up to China. They snuffed around 40 million of their own people from the years of 1950 to 1985.

Good point, let's look at something more recent.  https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2014/country-chapters/united-states? p age=1  And by no means is this intended to diminish the abuses by the Chinese, which are most certainly respectable in their own right.

I was thinking, if we could all just send good thoughts, transmit them through these internets here, to the elected leader of China, Wing Wa Woo Tong, instead of criticizing, they might finally be nice. Thank you.

No they still have a point. Please look up the definition of "ad hominem". It doesn't matter how bad their human rights record is, they are still right or wrong in their statements based on the facts, not their own behavior. And one or more other countries having bad human rights records doesn't make it okay for the US (or anyone else) to have a bad human rights record, but only as long as it isn't as bad as the worst culprits.

China's got a point.  We like to pretend to be the worlds' moral standard bearer, but we lock up 1 out of every 8 black men, execute the mentally retarded, kidnap and torture foriegn nationals, etc.

They may not be up to western standards when it comes to individual rights, but they don't claim to be better than anyone else, and they certainly don't consider themselves to be the world's police force.  Xi Jingping certainly never went on TV and called China a "shinning city on a hill."

Well......they are RIGHT.
It doesn't excuse THEIR bad behaviours.
But they are right about our bad behaviour.
Shame on 0bama for continuing Bush's spying and droning.

Meanwhile China is a corporatist (fascist?) state that pays its workers shiat wages so they can ship their cheap crap worldwide.

And yeah the US is very much heading back that direction, especially if we give social conservatives like Scott Walker legitimacy.
