I love that the comments are full of people who did not read the article in order to discover that her address was already public record, along with all the other supervisors and that the article itself contained a less-exact set of details than the public record itself.

Stay smart, Great State of Arizona

2014-02-28 02:03:14 PM
Funny, if you don't want the details of your life made public, you probably shouldn't take a public servant job.

Why would she want police protection?  They are government employees, therefore they are lazy tax-sponges.  Be boostrappy, lady!  Hire private bodyguards at a market-derived price!  Or buy an awesome gun or something!  Quit making the taxpayers protect your sorry ass, ya bum!

Oh, and keep the government out of my Medicare!!1!

Came to post EXACTLY THIS.

For fark's sake, the Arizona bullshiat stories have been more numerous and crazier than Florida bullshiat stories for the last several months.

meat0918: How does an elected official not know their address is public record?

Do you really need a reminder of what state we're talking about here?  Senility is one of their chief imports.

Of course I live in Florida so I should really keep my mouth shut.  But still!

2014-02-28 02:44:32 PM

Lionel Mandrake: Or buy an awesome gun or something!

But this is Arizona, where anyone who says the word 'gun' is taken to a FEMA reeducation camp where a doctor gets to interrogate you as to exactly how many and what kinds of guns are in your house (in advance of the Jackbooted Thug Brigade's "'Borrow' a Gun from a Republican" plan MWAHAHAHAHAHA), no one is even allowed to wear clothing made by Tim Gunn, and concealed-carry is only allowed for unloaded Nerf guns bearing a raised Federal seal.

// some parts of that might be incorrect

Well, yes, but that's for an entirely different reason.

meat0918: How does an elected official not know their address is public record?

Better question, how does an elected official reach the conclusion, "I better call 911" when dealing with a published newspaper article? Even if you think it's a legitimate and grievous threat against you, why would you call a line for immediate emergency response rather than going to the police, lodging a formal complaint, requesting security in person, or otherwise treating the threat like a non-specific, non-immediate threat? If someone makes a death threat against you and they're not on the phone or inside the house, you go TO the police to file a report and get protection. You don't dial 911 because of a nasty note.

meat0918: How does an elected official not know their address is public record?

Ah, but the public record would show a nice house it the suburbs for me, not this office suite in a closed factory.

I vote we add one more 'state' tag, and rotate the honor on a monthly basis, chosen by vote.  Arizona one month, maybe Kansas the next, this way all the states can get their turn in the barrel.

Michigan, Montana, Texas, Alabama, North Carolina...

Florida is a special type of wierd, I'll give you that.  No state provides such a variety of the bizarre antics that Florida can.  However, Arizona is making a pretty solid case that at least politically they are so backwards and stupid that even they shame Florida in that arena.

Yes, no self respecting Republican President would be caught dead in the White House, or in Camp David, or with the Secret Service, or any of the vehicles provided to the office to utilize in order to protect the POTUS.  Nope, they just build a cabin in the woods with their bare hands and Jesus, armed to the teeth with all manner of firearms.  They drive the same truck they bought to haul that lumber and by golly if they have to go abroad, they'll swim the atlantic themselves.

Bloody William: meat0918: How does an elected official not know their address is public record?

Better question, how does an elected official reach the conclusion, "I better call 911" when dealing with a published newspaper article? Even if you think it's a legitimate and grievous threat against you, why would you call a line for immediate emergency response rather than going to the police, lodging a formal complaint, requesting security in person, or otherwise treating the threat like a non-specific, non-immediate threat? If someone makes a death threat against you and they're not on the phone or inside the house, you go TO the police to file a report and get protection. You don't dial 911 because of a nasty note.

I dunno, I get the impression a lot of people think the 911 is "number to call for the police" rather than being "number to call during an emergency". I guess more needs to be done to advertise the alternatives (311 in the US I believe, although not sure that is universal, or 101 in the mainland UK) and when they are appropriate.

I, for one am glad this vapid twunt is getting this sort of attention. Her fellow members of the Board of Supervisors bent over backwards in her first term to help her out. They gave her a lot of extra road money for several projects in her district. As a thank you, she protested any spending the county proposed in other districts, went on the radio to rip the county administrator a new one when possible and then as a slap in the face to the taxpayers, she spent tax money lavishly on herself and her staff.

Thank you Fark!!

He's not as bad as that one guy, the, uh, "random" character, who drops some cracked, barely relevant morsel from the derposphere and then disappears completely. I'm not entirely convinced he isn't a bot. This one usually wanders in and out of a thread at least a little bit. Also in his favor, such as it is, he doesn't drone. You can find out almost anyone's address by looking up property tax information.  Some states allow exemptions (celebrities and public officials), but you have to request them and they have to be approved.

This woman doesn't seem to be the brightest crayon in the box.  Too bad they aren't charging her for calling 911 with a non-emergency.

I would argue that contributing to a political climate where the tone of debate is one step short of actual violence is probably more irresponsible, given that your home address is a matter of public record.
