I love that the comments are full of people who did not read the article in order to discover that her address was already public record, along with all the other supervisors and that the article itself contained a less-exact set of details than the public record itself.

Stay smart, Great State of Arizona

2014-02-28 02:03:14 PM
Funny, if you don't want the details of your life made public, you probably shouldn't take a public servant job.

Maybe she should stop equating herself to Gabby Giffords.

2014-02-28 02:08:59 PM
Why would she want police protection?  They are government employees, therefore they are lazy tax-sponges.  Be boostrappy, lady!  Hire private bodyguards at a market-derived price!  Or buy an awesome gun or something!  Quit making the taxpayers protect your sorry ass, ya bum!

Oh, and keep the government out of my Medicare!!1!

/and vote Republican

How does an elected official not know their address is public record?

Came to post EXACTLY THIS.

For fark's sake, the Arizona bullshiat stories have been more numerous and crazier than Florida bullshiat stories for the last several months.

meat0918: How does an elected official not know their address is public record?

Do you really need a reminder of what state we're talking about here?  Senility is one of their chief imports.

Of course I live in Florida so I should really keep my mouth shut.  But still!

2014-02-28 02:44:32 PM

Lionel Mandrake: Or buy an awesome gun or something!

But this is Arizona, where anyone who says the word 'gun' is taken to a FEMA reeducation camp where a doctor gets to interrogate you as to exactly how many and what kinds of guns are in your house (in advance of the Jackbooted Thug Brigade's "'Borrow' a Gun from a Republican" plan MWAHAHAHAHAHA), no one is even allowed to wear clothing made by Tim Gunn, and concealed-carry is only allowed for unloaded Nerf guns bearing a raised Federal seal.

// some parts of that might be incorrect

2014-02-28 02:45:56 PM

meat0918: How does an elected official not know their address is public record?

Because she's very, incredibly, mind numbingly, galactically stupid.

2014-02-28 02:47:34 PM
They're a special kind of stupid in Arizona, aren't they?

2014-02-28 02:48:13 PM

Dr Dreidel: no one is even allowed to wear clothing made by Tim Gunn,

Well, yes, but that's for an entirely different reason.

meat0918: How does an elected official not know their address is public record?

Better question, how does an elected official reach the conclusion, "I better call 911" when dealing with a published newspaper article? Even if you think it's a legitimate and grievous threat against you, why would you call a line for immediate emergency response rather than going to the police, lodging a formal complaint, requesting security in person, or otherwise treating the threat like a non-specific, non-immediate threat? If someone makes a death threat against you and they're not on the phone or inside the house, you go TO the police to file a report and get protection. You don't dial 911 because of a nasty note.

meat0918: How does an elected official not know their address is public record?

Ah, but the public record would show a nice house it the suburbs for me, not this office suite in a closed factory.

No.  Florida is special.  If this shenaniganry keeps up, every damn state will have its own tag, and when everyone's special, no one's special.  No.

I vote we add one more 'state' tag, and rotate the honor on a monthly basis, chosen by vote.  Arizona one month, maybe Kansas the next, this way all the states can get their turn in the barrel.

Michigan, Montana, Texas, Alabama, North Carolina...

2014-02-28 02:59:37 PM
I guess it's easy to scoff, but there was that time that the GOP told the teabaggers to protest outside of democratic politicians homes and they started farking with that guy's gas lines.

I really wonder what her response would be if someone looked up her publicly available address and posted it in the comments as a reply to her?

FTFA's Comments from the Supervisor:

Guessing Sheriff Dupnik, Gabby Giffords and others wish they had made a different decision and called for security that Jan 8th where we had that terrible incident. I choose to be proactive to protect my family. Posting Maps to people's homes is irresponsible period.

Wow. The derp is strong with this one.

Florida is a special type of wierd, I'll give you that.  No state provides such a variety of the bizarre antics that Florida can.  However, Arizona is making a pretty solid case that at least politically they are so backwards and stupid that even they shame Florida in that arena.

It's amazing that I can read a Fark headline and know the political affiliation of the person the article is about with 100% accuracy.

/if it's something batshiat or ridiculous, Republican is a safe bet

I'm surprised she didn't end the 911 call with "Now, can you please put me through to Google, I need to have a word with them too".

So I just YouTube'd "Larry Bird's Greatest Dunks", and the song playing for it is "Dirty White Boy". Made me chuckle.

I'd like us to have a Rhode Island tag for a month, for like the honor of my state or something, but news doesn't really happen here so it'd be wasted.

This lady seems like the type that might sue anyone that says anything bad about her so to me her actions seem perfectly reasonable and there's nothing wrong at all with what she did, praise jeesus and the tea party! USA! USA! USA!

Meh... I just don't see this as all THAT outrageous. It's like they were just looking for a placeholder for early- mid-afternoon... Sure, it's pretty dumb, but it's not spectacular, and I was really hoping that the comments would be where it all came together, but those were kind of a snooze fest, too.
